Lions Draft Tight End Brandon Pettigrew with 20th Pick

With the 20th pick of the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions just selected Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew.  Pettigrew is the best tight end in the draft and fills a need on the offensive side of the ball.  However, my problem with this pick is that with Rey Maualuga and Michael Oher both available, the Lions just passed on two players that can make an instant impact.  I just don't see a tight end doing that, no matter how talented he may be.  The 33rd pick better be defense; that's all I can say.

More to come later.

This was a good pick...

…trust Schwartz. Pettigrew will help our offense. We can pick up Rey at #33. Don’t sweat it, guys. Pettigrew will be an instant impact.

This is more upsetting than Stafford....

…I was just coming to terms with the Stafford pick, and then they go and take the best TE available.

I’m convincing Millen switched bodies with Mayhew and he’s running this draft.

The scary thing is Mayhew and The Schwartz are picking the best available player on Mel Kipers board. That should frighten all of us…..

He's got the size to play it

but I think moving him to MLB might be a tough transition.

He's a safety valve

For their new 41 million guaranteed investment.

I think it’s a logical pick for the way they seem to want to go. TE’s are valuable, but that space could’ve been filled with someone like Coffman too. Plus, the way this draft has been going, you never know who will be available.

Good pick

I’ve been a big fan of Pettigrew. Oher may have been able to help us more this year and there is obviously some issues with Mualuga / Laurinitas since so many teams are passing on them. Like every pick, we need to think long term…we have a huge need at TE and this guy was a top 15 prospect. He’s a great blocker…he’ll help the run game, pass protection for our OT’s and in the passing game.

SOS

If you had replaced the front office in 2000 with a group of retarded monkeys there is a 100% chance they would have done better this decade. You hire a defensive coach and then tie up all funds in the salary cap picking about the 15th best player with the number one pick. Pick offense with #20 where a tight end just as good would have been there for their 2nd round pick. Then they draft this little guy for a safety? If you hold your elbows at your waste and raise your hands you are imitating the Lions defensive backfield. I really thought they might finally show a little bit of sense. Swartz said they all had to agree on every pick so that means THE WHOLE FRONT OFFICE IS A BUNCH OF IDIOTS. The only thing they did was get rid of the head idiot Millen and left his clones behind. God help the Lions fan.
