I'm not gonna judge the draft until it's finished
So right now I’m still ok
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
Good outlook... I'm not going to either
I’ve said all along, I just want the Lions to get great players and they may have just done that.
I'm not ok. I only had a six-pack and it's already long gone.
"A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five." ~Groucho Marx
ok so , why is rey rey falling so far?
Did the other teams feel bad for us and know how bad a pick we made and decide to let us have him at 33?
well lets think guys for a minute
Maybe our new coaches just want to score 70 points a game? They will draft an OT at #33 and hope we just outscore ppl
Don't have a 4th rounder (or a 5th)
"A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five." ~Groucho Marx
I like it
Looks like they trying to build an offense like the old Cowboys team.
As I said, this draft ain't over
There’s still a bunch of player’s available we could use.
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
Damn has hoping Harvin would fall to the Lions at 33

heres my crazy dream scenario...
james L at 33, Hood at 3.1, Robinson at 3.2. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. But I never thought Pettigrew would go at no.20
Donald Brown maybe

There's a video preview of it
I’ll probably post it the next few days. He is one lucky man. Here’s the link: http://blog.mlive.com/highlightreel/2009/04/tennis_star_maria_sharapova_ca.html

Im betting best player on the board at #33..
I think Pettigrew was their highest rated player.. they rated him higher than rey rey and stuck to what they said they were going to do of best player on the board..
Seems likely
He is a highly rated prospect

Remember everybody
If you don’t like the Pettigrew pick, just think, DHB went 7 to raiders

I wonder what Cleveland will do with their 50 extra picks?

Would make it an ok draft
by Curse of Bobby Layne 50 Years Strong on Apr 25, 2009 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Meh
Because I have to:
Maybe Pettigrew will be 1/2 Olineman to help on blocking and 1/2 short WR to pull some coverage off of CJ
That sucks
They might go Right Tackle with Oher
Looks like Oher
to baltimore

I dont think Falcons ever thought Jerry would drop
But they like matthews
ESPN had great things to say about Pettigrew.
The more I think about this I actually like this pick. He will take a lot off of Calvin and help Jones in the running game
If he's good, I'll be happy...
I just felt like there were other needs and players with as much talent as Pettigrew. But I’m warming to the pick the longer I think about it.
Tell you what, Mayhew is taking who he thinks, not the fans – not sure if that’s good or bad
Falcons...
Should take Maluaga or Matthews
by damnitdamnitdamnit on Apr 25, 2009 6:38 PM EDT reply actions
Falcons is my #2 so either way , i know they are about to get better
…I know they arent picking pettigrew haha

Ok
Now that we passed on Maualuga I’m officially on the draft Brinkley bandwagon. Build the D-Line with the 33rd, then get Brinkley with the 65th. This draft could’ve turned out alot better
Pick is
PEria Jerry
by Curse of Bobby Layne 50 Years Strong on Apr 25, 2009 6:41 PM EDT reply actions
So let me ask you guys this...
If you knew Pettigrew was the next Alge Crumpler, would you be ok with the pick?
I think Pettigrew is a seriously talented player..
I wanted a MLB but it is looking like we land one anyways..
I also think that if they upgrade our O-Line, we now have a ridiculous offense..
Not when we don’t have a defense

no

I can't believe
They didn’t go Oher. It just hit me like a wave. We had a chance to get the tackle we wanted and blew it. Oh man I can’t be happy unless we draft Brinkley
Is it just me ...
Or would only a MLB like Rey Ma or Laurinatius save this crapfest of a draft for us?
by damnitdamnitdamnit on Apr 25, 2009 6:46 PM EDT reply actions
no I want a OT now..
let’s just go all out.. maybe we can just outscore everyone
Seriously
Just trade up Detroit. We’re so close to Maualuga again.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
Agreed
It shouldn’t take more than 2 6s and our 33rd to get him. That would salvage it for me. Then Fili Moala with the 65th and possible a guard with the 82nd
And I think we should trade up for Rey Ma..
Am I wrong?
by damnitdamnitdamnit on Apr 25, 2009 6:47 PM EDT reply actions
Good PIck
Vontae Davis now what does the hoody do?

Me too, that's why we need to trade up
by damnitdamnitdamnit on Apr 25, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions
A good analogy for Pettigrew
I think that Brandon Pettigrew is a square peg….
In the hole in the Titanic’s hull
All I know is that if NE takes Maualuga
We instantly know it was a bad move passing on him.

Maybe
The Lions like next years defensive crop and realize that their going to have another high pick
by Curse of Bobby Layne 50 Years Strong on Apr 25, 2009 6:51 PM EDT reply actions
Seriously, I was dry heaving at first...
But I think I actually like the idea of Stafford, CJ, Pettigrew, and Kevin Smith…
It gives us an identity
I'm growing into it
TE is no longer a liability like it has been for God knows how long. It just depends how the rest of the draft goes.
Maybe they feel like this draft is really deep in D
Schwartz knows about defense
HAven't
They tried this offensive identity before

by Hyperion Ecta on Apr 25, 2009 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I think it's a much more solid group...
TE is a lot more important lately in the schemes everyone is running… and it takes some attention off CJ and it helps Kevin Smith too

awesome…
# @PrideOfDetroit That is a GREAT question. Maybe Belichick takes him. Mayock says BB likes Beanie, but may not have room for him.2 minutes ago from web in reply to PrideOfDetroit
If Green Bay takes Maualuga, we will NOT be able to run against them
Raji + Maualuga = no holes for Kevin Smith
I guess this is just a division where you have to stop Adrian Peterson to have a shot
Wow
so that’s how you build a defense. And we get to face them twice a year.
In case you missed it
Here was Eisen’s response to my question about what happened to Maualuga:

what can we do?
we are all too heavily invested in the Lions to do anything other than just sigh and hope it works out for the best. Ah… the life of a Lions fan.
stand up and say
I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take this anymore.
just kidding.
i'll wonder where Millen
has his hand up Mayhew’s butt like a puppet.
Must be an issue with Maualuga
Why is he dropping this far?
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
Packers gave up their second-rounder and two third-rounders
They got a fifth-rounder back. Way too much if you ask me.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
Rey is available
Because he doesn’t have the smarts to play MLB. It requires the most thinking out of any defensive position and it doesn’t do to have a guy that can just hit and can’t make adjustments
id rather have james l

We still need
an OG. There are some good ones on the board still. I think we should go for Robinson now that Mack is gone.
If you look though, no MLB is off the board...
So it may just be a need issue

We took BPA with Pettigrew, which is what we should have done… PLUS it filled a need AND helps out our new franchise QB down the road.
Just wait til we pick 33 before hating on Pettigrew.
Yeah but.
We could’ve closed our eyes and played pin the tail on the draft prospect and STILL filled a need. So it doesn’t really matter
So heres my question...
If beanie falls, does detroit sure up what Deion called our lack of a running game? haha
The folks down here are happy about that one
(I’m in Louisvillle). Now, who else besides us needs a MLB?
"A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five." ~Groucho Marx
MLBs are overrated
If we score 49 pts a game, we should be able to scratch out a few wins.
Well, I guess everyone in Buffalo's got Wood now

about Pettigrew:
“Pettigrew was viewed as the best tight end in the 2009 draft largely because of his all around talent and willingness to block in the run game. He often asked his college coaches to run the ball behind him during critical moments in his college career.”
i like Pettigrew alot at 20.
Things are looking good for us again, guys...
Three picks left and both Rey, Laurinaitis and Hood are all on the board still
We should take Hood since there's no DT's left or Maualuga/Laurinaitis?

If Maualuga is available and they pass again
Then I will certainly change my mind about the Pettigrew pick.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
But what about the OT we wanted?
Stafford can’t block the DEs by himself. Pettigrew might help but Oher would help alot more
Anyone know what time does the draft start tomorrow?

We all know the kid is going to be one of the best TE’s maybe ever.. he’s just too beastly not to be..
Might be going a bit far there
I have lots of hope for him though

Lol take it easy
but I’m growing into the Pettigrew pick as well. I threw my remote when it happened, but I sat back and thought, they should draft their OT next year. Meanwhile we got Antonio Gates to add to Calvin
You're really coming around on that pick, aren't you?
I agree that he’s gonna be pretty good, I think
Yeah actually i hated the idea of a TE, but the kid is seriously good..
Now that we have him im not gonna deny his talent
I don't know...
They say his blocking is good but it leaves something to be desired, as well as his speed.
by damnitdamnitdamnit on Apr 25, 2009 7:21 PM EDT reply actions
I kind of want us to take offense
I like that Mayhew is setting Stafford up to be successful. I’m hoping OG or OT
About an hour ago...
We were praying he’d fall to us at #20, now he’s about to drop to us at #33! Wow what a draft.
First-round is gonna be right around 3 and a half hours
I’m looking good for the tiebreaker at least.
