No
MJ is not a safe pick at all. He’s a boom or bust type prospect. He’ll either be really good or horrible. THat’s just too much risk for me

Yesterday was good man, I let it digest and i'm pumped..
We got best players available at their positions.. they may not be our highest rated needs.. but they are ridiculous prospects
I pretty content with them
The only one that still sticks a little with me is Pettigrew. Just don’t get it given who else was there.
If Oher turns out to be a good LT then I'll be upset
But if not, then I think we came out better

Because of the article I posted yesterday
Linehan’s system relies HEAVILY on TE . There was a whole article on it on the 24th on Freep. TE is one of the most important positions for Lineahans system to work so we went and got him the best one available in a while…
Great Trade
Getting the Jet’s 3rd, 4th and 7th to drop 12 spots in the 3rd round is a great trade. Having that 1st pick on day two is huge.
Actually we only dropped from 65 to 72

Only thing im upset about that trade
is that I’ll have to wait longer for the lions pick, and endure more anxiety. But its all cool, theyve given me enough ulcers the past season

Stafford
I know we all have different opinions on Stafford, but if you haven’t checked out it, go to ESPN and read the NFC North Blog. There is a story with direct quotes from Schwartz and Mayhew about how much Stafford impressed them during fim sessions. I really feel if we show some patience and coach him up right he’s going to be a very good player for us.
I think the reason we didn't see the picks coming is simple...
We didn’t fully understand the systems that Linehan and Gunther/Schwartz were putting into place.
I think we upgraded important positions for what they want to do that they needed and saw as bigger weaknesses than us because they know their focus and what they plan to do..
I just thought
Schwartz said he wanted to build the trenches in the draft
He hasn’t made one pick to foritfy the trenches yet
LIES!!!
He also said he wanted to get a replacement for Bobby Layne
Schwartzy is a devilish one!

Is still available. I know we have more pressing needs next season, but again, we need to draft for the long term future…and he may have too much value to pass up. He can also return kicks and punts.

Who do you see Dallas taking?
Maybe a QB to groom behind Romo? I"ve seen Bomar in alot of drafts for the cowgirls
Wouldn't be surprised
But they have Kitna to back him up.

nah, Romo's too young for them to look for a replacement this early
plus they actually gave up something for Kitna, so they’ve gotta be happy with where they are at QB

nfl.com scouting report
Compares To: ALEX LEWIS, Detroit — Both are smaller than you want, but has that incredible quickness just looking to be harnessed. Levy is very effective blitzing off the edge, but seems to generate a better burst when he comes off the snap with his hand on the ground rather than when standing in a normal linebacker’s stance. He is more comfortable working in space, as he likes to use his speed to avoid rather than utilize his strength to take on offensive linemen. Some scouts compare him to the Titans’ Keith Bulluck, but Levy’s inability to locate the ball or eye the quarterback in passing situations shoes he is not the complete player some would like you to believe he is. In a draft that is lacking in quality linebackers, some team will overlook his pass coverage deficiencies and draft him higher than his grade indicates.

that means something i guess
Don't know if you saw Gunther's comments...
But he said we’ll be based in the 4-3, but will probably run the 3-4 in some third down and passing situations
maybe they think robinsons still there the next pick
also scouting report said some compare him to Keith Bulluck, maybe Schwartz thinks that

Sounds like every one of our linebackers
Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal bulk that you look for…Isn’t very strong or physical…Misses some tackles…Too aggressive at times…Poor hand use…Has trouble shedding blocks…Marginal instincts and awareness.

he’s a defensive mastermind right? He is also in on the process this year a lot more than in previous years..
Gotta be something we're all missing scheme-wise or...
they are still just taking best player available and that’s where Levy was scouted at…
Yeah, but they could have gotten him in the sixth or fourth round.

is smarter than all of us. Trust their reasoning guys. He’s not a Marinelli. My Titans fan friend nearly drove to Nashville to protest after they lost Schwartz to us. He wanted Schwartz to take over after Fisher. He’s a good coach and knows that he is doing.

Williams is an explosive athlete who has tremendous ability anytime he has the ball. He’s quick off the line, reaches top speed instantly and has an outstanding burst in the open field. He has excellent body control and adjusts well to vertical throws. He’s a dynamic return specialist who has great vision and cut back ability that allows him to reach paydirt. He plays much faster than his timed speed. – Chris Steuber, Scout.com
I would like this pick a lot more
If we hadn’t signed Ronald Curry
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
To summarize...
after ignoring our glaring holes at O-Line and MLB on day 1, we go OLB-WR on day 2.
How about a Right Tackle, Kicker, or Running Back in round 4?
I just sent this to Goodell on Twitter
@nflcommish Please take control of the Lions away from William Clay Ford. This is ridiculous.

Taking a break from the draft for a while guys...
eat some lunch… not really impressed right now, but holding out hope that these two guys today are just flat out good players, regardless of position…
Obviously the strategy is to get the top 2010 Pick
I will check in again at Game #1 to see how things turn out. Obviously Mr. Mayhew had more to do with the previous Lion’s drafts then we were led to believe.
looks like
he had all the control not Millen before. nothing has changed
yet he liked Levy?

It’s ok.. we needed one bad…
Drews it sounds like he had a really bad 40 but is way faster than his time
I’m seriously ready to just walk away from this team. It kills me but I’m beginning to feel like a battered wife that keeps coming back….

New England went WR immediately after us just now...Brandon Tate
What are the odds Brandon Tate and Patrick Chung turn out better than Derrick Williams and Louis Delmas?
Seriously?
They have a better foundation to work with. Calm down. The team has to build. The picks are good ones.

Don't get 3rd round picks...
I was very happy with day 1, but I don’t understand our picks today. OLB, WR, RB and QB were the two positions I didn’t think we needed to address coming into today and our first two picks have been from that group. Williams is a great returner and that’s something we definitely need, but why not draft one of the best CB’s instead who also has elite return ability?
Only 5'11

Williams is a gifted athlete who plays a lot faster then he times. He is very good with the ball in his hands and knows how to separate on all levels of the field. He should be a nice complement to Calvin Johnson.
We will address the problems you guys are noting somehow.

We got the best one on our board..
Mainly because we believe I think that he can play the Slot and also return kicks from day 1… As soon as he returns his first kick for a TD we’ll love him..
Special teams is underated sometimes.. but we started almost every drive from the damn end zone last year..
Getting an extra 15 yards on a return can complete change a drive
I really like these picks
Aside from OL an DT I am looking at these first 5 picks and think these are all vast improvements. We are immediately stronger at QB, TE, LB (out and in) secondary, and special teams. The more I look at this set the more I like it.
You win in this league by running and stopping the run…..how have we gotten better in either of those areas…

The way I look at Pettigrew
he’ll be somewhere around 40% run-blocking, 30% pass-catching, 30% pass-protecting
he may help us, but not like a monster Guard in the run game.
We now have Raiola + Peterman to go up against Pat Williams, Kevin Williams, BJ Raji and Tommie Harris
Yes.....
…Levy will be starting MLB…….Good DT will be available in 6th round as well…Dont have to draft that position early.

Kick returning was one of the major needs the coaches expressed early on..
It’s a lot more important than people give it credit for and like I said.. we’ve been waiting for a replacement for Eddie for years
It's obvious we were off in another world...
Detroit isn’t the only one skipping these guys we want.. we obviously ate up a lot of media hype or something when we picked our guys..
That's all I can think of
Way too many people are not going where we expected them to go. It’s very weird.
our return team
was terrible last year. Run right into the pile and get dropped between the 20 and 25 yard lines. I dont like that we have the same coach but to get a guy with better vision in there is very exciting to me.
Stop Trading with the Patriots

If we don't draft a DT I will be upset however...
I think DT and MLB are needs we can’t pass up.. maybe Levy is their answer at MLB .. but I would still like to see us pick a solid full time MLB that isn’t a project…
Maybe they will trade up into the 4th again and get the guys they want for MLB and DT there? I just don’t see the point of Levy unless they want to try him in the middle..
Well We Got MLB.....
…..In levy….Lions brought him and looked at him as MLb……He will end up as Starting MLB….DT wis a position they can address in 6th round…..never need to get those guys early

This is most definitely not my ultimate idea of how this draft would have turned out. If it were me we would be having a completely different discussion. At the same time, won’t every player we have picked, aside from maybe Levy (not sure about that one), come in and contribute significantly right away?
I don’t understand the levy pick, however, I do feel like we have bigger needs but we can’t change the picks, so strictly looking at who we’ve got, i think levy is really the only player we got that is a question mark. Otherwise I think we have a lot of young talent coming in this year.. which is what we wanted.. talent on the team..
