Lions Trade Down with Jets to Open Third Round
Rather than make a pick to begin day two of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions decided to trade down to stock up on picks. The New York Jets gave up a third-, fourth-, and seventh-round pick to trade into the No. 64 spot, giving the Lions two additional selections for trading down.
Detroit will pick at No. 76, which the Jets had acquired from the Redskins. The Lions will go back on the clock with the No. 82 pick, which was acquired last year in the Roy Williams trade. Then, rather than take two full rounds off, the Lions will have a pick at No. 115 overall in the fourth-round. Finally, the Lions will make two picks in the seventh-round, with one of them coming at No. 228 thanks to the Jets trade.

draft so far
it seems that detroit’s draft strategy is to simply draft what we currently don’t have. we didn’t have other qb’s other than culpepper, so they draft stafford. we didnt have a tight end, needed safety help and a returner, so i guess that’s why they’re picking the way that they are.
having said that, im kind of disgusted with this draft. i hate hearing coaches saying were going to draft “our guys.” deondre levy? on who’s draft board was he ranked higher than any of the lb from usc, ohio state, penn state? i cant believe that with where we were picking, with all the needs we have on defense and offensive line, we came away with NONE of the difference makers. this front office has absolutely no idea what they are doing
