At least We got a 4th

I mean as many players as we can help can make an impact and 7th rounders could start over some guys haha

If you look at our last 4 drafts or more..

Half the picks aren’t even on the team anymore, or aren’t worthy of starting / even being backups..

So I mean it’s not like we can really get worse.. we’ve gotten about 1 starter / consistent player per draft for the last 8 years haha..

by MatthewDC on Apr 26, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That's pretty unneccesary

I think Kevin and the rest of the squad know that they are considered to be bottom-dwellers, even if they’re not

Yeah, I know

But that doesn’t mean the new leader of our team needs to go apologize on behalf of Deion

Deion is just a big dbag

That interview with Crabtree was one of the most unclassy things I’ve ever seen.

I would feel like we did well..

But if we walk away with no MLB and no new DT, and we didn’t help the OL, I would feel like the draft as a whole was a let down..

Theres no assurance that he can even play MLB.. you don’t take a position where you literally have not one person on your roster, and bank on a position changing rookie to fill it

…..MLB was very very weak this year……Robinson is somewhat a project.

by BennieBladesFan on Apr 26, 2009 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

MLB

Was weak in the 1st and 2nd rd. But it was deep in the middle rds. (Brinkley Ellerby etc) there was alot of quality guys available in the 3rd and 4th rd.

by Boney on Apr 26, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its a matter....

……of strength at position…..No one left at MLB is someone that is like oh manI gota have……Just average players at that position.

by BennieBladesFan on Apr 26, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thats what the late rounds are for.. half the starting MLB's in the league are average.

Our right now is invisible..

or if you count levy, our starting MLB is an OLB..

by MatthewDC on Apr 26, 2009 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That can play inside

……..More then 12 teams say he can play inside in the NFl….Not Just Detroit.

by BennieBladesFan on Apr 26, 2009 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That is not true..

There are still plenty of MLB left who ACTUALLY played MLB. Switching positions is a project. The others may not be Rey Rey, but they are not projects. They would be much more prepared to start on day 1 than Levy.

by MatthewDC on Apr 26, 2009 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

you won't start Stafford day 1

why start rookie at MLB day 1

by Boney on Apr 26, 2009 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There's less of a learning curve

For MLB than there is for a QB, especially one without an O-Line.

by detpistons3 on Apr 26, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

MLB is the QB of the defense

unless there’s a drop dead stud at MLB in the draft, why risk it

by Boney on Apr 26, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You guys are just getting silly with some of these statements..

We have no MLB. We can start a rookie because it is an upgrade. I would much rather start a rookie who had played the position than one who had not. Period. End of argument.

by MatthewDC on Apr 26, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

how is it end of argument

Dizon played MLB last year, why not play him then?

why is it silly? If you don’t draft Rey or James, there’s obviously no clear cut stud after those 2. They didn’t draft them, so why pick a MLB just for the sake of picking a MLB?

by Boney on Apr 26, 2009 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dizon has no shot at being a MLB

He was moved back to OLB at the end of last season and has been there ever since. Schwartz didn’t talk very highly of him.

So the cowboys have like 11 picks today

That has got to suck to be drafted by them. You know they are not going to end up with 11 rookies on their squad next year. Especially not 11 day two rookies. So you know that you have a worse chance of making the roster than if you got drafted by any other team in the NFL. That has got to suck.

ESPN Scouts Inc. Profile of Sammie Lee Hill

2008: Hill starts all 11games recording 59 total tackles, 19 tackles-for-loss, 7.5 sacks, seven passes defended and one forced fumble. Good height, excellent bulk and above-average top-end speed for size. Durability is not a concern to our knowledge. Helped pull a man out of a burning house in August of 2007. Lined up at defensive end in 2008 and willing to play on the inside and/or the outside.

NFL.com:
Compares To: SHAUN ROGERS, Cleveland — Hill has the potential to be much more consistent than Rogers, but will just need time to adjust to NFL life from the low level of competition he played in. Hill flashes a burst to finish and shows effectiveness stopping the running game as a three-tech defender. He has a very strong anchor vs. the run and uses his hands well to cross over the offensive lineman’s face to make the play. He generates excellent leverage to stack at the point of attack. He has the quick, strong and active hands to split double teams and his long arms allow him to consistently push the pocket.

Nice…

Hill story is up

http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2009/4/26/854389/lions-draft-dt-sammie-lee-hill

This looks like a great pick. As posted in the story, one league source told PFT he could be a second-round pick.

what about

Javon Ringer, why not take him with our last pick if he’s there, change of pace to K Smith

I wouldn't mind that in the 7th..

I think that Smith will be abused behind our horribly unimproved o-line

strange how rescuing someone from a burning building = good character

when really it was just a freak circumstance that he happened to be there for. It’s not like bad boy Duke wouldn’t have done the same thing.

there’s going to be a run on tight ends eventually. A lot of good ones on the board, and this is around the time they tend to do.

still getting a little old

especially considering most of the contingent here wanted Rey to be the Lions middle linebacker

if we really want a MLB

one of the names will be around at 6.1. But it should be clear that that isn’t something the Lions are going for, otherwise they would have taken Laurinitis at 33.

Most surprising pick in the entire draft:

Has to be the safety Mitchell going to the raiders in round 2, right? Any other thoughts?

by sgdbw90 on Apr 26, 2009 2:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't know

Heyward-Bey was a big reach, but he was supposed to go in the mid to late first round. Mitchell was the 73rd rated safety! There were 72 other safeties that ESPN thought were better. If you’re lucky to be signed as a undrafted free agent, and instead you go in the middle of round 2, i think that’s more surprising.

If you want to see how

to build through the trenches, inside out or however you want to say it, look at the Ravens draft board.

Ravens

Had the Draft the Lions should’ve had. OT first, then D-Line and a MLB in the middle rds then a TE in the 5th. Looked like how the Lions should’ve drafted

by detpistons3 on Apr 26, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That was my thought looking at it.

2nd best D in the league last year. Lost a few guys (esp Scott, big loss) but they’re still building it. Priorities I guess.

PF: Boozer
SF: Tay
SG: Hamilton
PG: Stuckey
6th: Maxi

by detpistons3 on Apr 26, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He just doesn't block shots

He plays decent defense though. It would be amazing if we somehow netted Hasheem Thabeet. That would be the perfect front court. I would trade Tay or Hamilton to get Thabeet. Imagine Thabeet on D and Boozer on O Damn. It’s alot easier to get an SF or SG than it is to get a Center

by detpistons3 on Apr 26, 2009 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would trade up

give up a couple of the 2nd round picks to get Thabeet. We shouldn’t need offensive if we get Boozer. I think that would put us back on the map. That plus a 3 point sharp shooter

Weaknesses

From that scouting report:

Is he totally committed to the game?..Not real physical or aggressive and needs to show more of a killer instinct.

That screams bust to me. If you’re not commited to football, you’re not going to do well

by detpistons3 on Apr 26, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is what I would want in an OT

Terrific size and bulk with a large frame and long arms…Extremely intelligent with great awareness…Above average athleticism…Light on his feet…Quick and agile with good balance…Moves well laterally…Is able to protect the edge…Adequate strength…Has a strong initial punch…Good range and will get to the second level…Understands angles and positioning…Can recover when beat…Shows the ability to manhandle defenders…Hard worker…Still improving and has upside.

by SLPtransam on Apr 26, 2009 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs
