Some damn intern had the stat sheet upside down Mahew thought we had the 2nd best D in the league

Grraham Gano K
At least with our track record, he would be a future starter
by Liontotheextreme on Apr 26, 2009 5:48 PM EDT reply actions
I find it interesting to look
at the perennial top teams in the AFC and see what they drafted. Pittsburgh, NE, Baltimore. Predominantly D and OL. Guess we know their priorities.
WOW! Detroit has reached a new low
The crowd in Detroit is yelling “Let’s go Cavs” and it’s REALLY loud. Sounds like a home game for the Cavs…
Thanks Joe D.
I don’t care if it’s about salary, trading Billups was dumb. Not as dumb as hiring Michael Curry, though.
RIP Pistons. It was a great era.

My roommate argued with me
to no end that we needed to get rid of Chauncey. I stopped following them after they did.
AI my ass
Maybe we'll take Hoyer
So he can sit on the bench with Stanton all season and reminisce their good days at State.
Mahews plan is to sign players as NE cuts them

3 OL this round
maybe one might be worth something.
We'll put you in the weight room with everyone else

Not for the lions new scheme of undersized Olinemen
See, the defense will feel so bad for you they will pause slightly before crushing you and that will give Stafford enough time to throw to Cj
I hope the Lions sign Napolean Harris Monday

I just don't understand this thought process
No O-Line throughout 7 rds and then an RB, with decent ones still on the board? Really Mayhew? Really?
It's all gonna backfire
When Schwartz finds out it’s against the rules to put in a brick wall rather than a real O-Line
just more lions running for their lives
they have to run fast and try to avoid
LIONS Football.
GOOOOOOOOOOOO LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIONS
Considering
We only have one starting Guard. I don’t know what we’ll do. I guesss Loper is starting?
Scwhartz actually called me and told me his plan...
We are replacing our O-Line with Actual Lions, crazy rabid ones with rabies
only hope for oline
is that they pick up where they left off…i must say that the best they looked was the in the final games when they got consistent play together as a unit game in and game out…i still thought some upgrading would have been done…
Perhaps next year
When they invest 2 picks on O-Line (We should’ve had 1 this year, they have to make up for it) and get a real starting MLB
I heard the lions have a scheme where they replace there MLB with a little kid with welches..
and hope the kid is so cute they just give up the ball.. it’s a pretty interesting technique
How about a 1-5-5?
I think there’s actually a formation like that in Madden. Pretty interesting to play with.

His name is Roary
and he can do a damn good backflip, if that’s what you mean
by Nate D. on Apr 26, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Roary Rumors...
…yeah, but I hear he has a problem with keeping his jersey on when he leaves Ford Field. I think I saw an article in the Freep that said he’s not allowed back at Wendy’s?
hopefully he can play also
When the rest of these yahoos get hurt
raiola was
hurt and peterman and we had whats his face as the other guard
too
bad 3 of those guys aren’ton the team anymore
So last year under millen we had a terrible first day, and a mediocre second day..
This year we have a possibly amazing or disastrous first round, and a Mayhem Madness 2nd day….I just don’t know what to think..
potential oliners
jason fabini, marc colombo, pete kendall all still fa olineman…depth if nothing else
Holy shit
There was a 2nd team all american C that just got drafted in the 7th round…
could have had him
It is sad that at the end of a draft that most people thought we would have a first day pick on Oline, we are now discussing Oline FAs
Indeed
It’s obvious the “Idiot’s Guide to Football” book Mayhew was reading was missing the “O-Line is the most important part of the team” Chapter
what he didn't realize
Was that it was a notebook he dug out of Millen’s desk with that written in Sharpie on it
I still owe on my season tickets
maybe I shouldnt pay the rest of it
stafford bail out
pay some of that 78 mill for my tickets
We are running a modified wildcat.
Basically they snap the ball to Grew, and tell him to run, and they all go eat sandwiches
Let's do it again with our next pick!

I was thinking this (in all seriousness)
They drafted for talent the entire draft. They traded down for 7th rounders to pick up the need guys so no one can say they didnt draft for need
it's too late to get quality at need that late...
late is not for filling need, it’s for fliers, risk guys.
yea too bad the lions cant offer that

Ahooo
Classic “Workout Warrior” with a world of unfulfilled potential but he will need to stay healthy to maximize it…Finesse blocker and an intriguing developmental prospect who will most likely be selected much earlier than his tape suggests he should
I guess 7th is early?
sounds like it..
I mean the dude is massive.. they should be able to just be like hey big guy, go stand there and dont let them move you ..
and we’re good..
Hes Gota Be Better....
…..Then Jeff “False Start” Backus!!!!
by BennieBladesFan on Apr 26, 2009 6:29 PM EDT reply actions
you cant coach size
And 6-7 315 lbs is pretty big
If we can get Gerald Cadogan
and move him inside to guard, I think we’ll have somehow pulled off improving our O-line with 7th round picks.
just draft the biggest people out there
Have them fall down and there is your brick wall
i can live with that
they better be calling Napoleon Harris!!!
by JazzyBBP on Apr 26, 2009 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
that would be a nice pickup between simms & peterson
he would n’t have to do much side to side…just keep the middle locked down
josh gibson
dude was awesome… possibly the best catcher to ever play. he was pretty big too.
hah
sounds like we actually did get good value with Murtha though maybe he WILL live up to his workouts…
Draft the kicker from USC
He put up 25 reps at the combine!!
Former linebacker, he can come up and compete with spare tire as the starting MLB!
We are going to have a Keg play MLB and hand out cups to the other team..
Don’t worry, they already said the cups will match the plates that we hired at WR…
I deleted that comment about Nick Harris
That’s not necessary and uncalled for.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
I don't have a problem with drafting Murtha here
this is where ouy SHOULD draft projects, injury guys, and long shots…. perfect time to draft him….. unfortunatly we need help now!
You know what's scary?
Our first round tight end….was… .06 seconds faster in his fourty time. .06 seconds. That’s terrifying. Six hundreths of a second.
I forgot he was still available
Hopefully Bill Cosby isn’t still sleeping.

Good ..
It’s about time we found a replacement for Ernie Sims.. that guy SUCKS!
ok... I guess we're going to a 3-4
and we’re using 4 outside linebackers, are middle linebackers like drugs? just say no to middle linebackers….. LOL
Check him out....
One of the more colorful characters on the squad, Follett spent much of 2007 with a hair dye job featuring tiger/lion stripes (artwork courtesy of Greg Van Hoesen), earning himself the nickname “Ziger” for the “Z” dyed into the back of his head amongst the stripes. Even though the hair went back to normal for the final five games, the “Ziger” mentality remained. He is also an accomplished artist, as he has a wood-cutting hobby in which he has shaped plywood into life size replicas of teammates.
Just not that good....
……I havent heard any good things about him

injuries
doesnt matter all Lions LBs get hurt so they need all they can get
according to NFL.com
Ask any Pac-10 Conference quarterback to name the hardest hitting tackler in the league and they will sound like a choir in singing praises for Follett. A versatile defender, he began his Cal career as a middle linebacker, shifting to weak-side outside linebacker as a sophomore before finding a home on the strong side his junior campaign.
Usa Today says
punishing hitter with a knack fpr forcing fumbles but does not change directions well and gets fooled too often. Not an every-down player despite intensity and aggression
mines good i use myp2pforum.eu
you have to download a program called TVAnts, but mines been great all weekend
If your later picks are more popular than your early ones...
you’re either doing something incredibly wrong or something incredibly right.

Nasty ILB!
I only watched a couple of Cal games this year so I am far from an expert on him, but this kid does lay the wood!
if we wan't nasty why in the world did we pass on rey
i know sore topic…but really?!?!…this almost hurts as much as watching joey lead our offense did
No doubt...
…but I seriously wouldn’t doubt he wins the starting MLB job. Or at least competes for backup time. Considering what’s on the roster now, and the fact that they drafted a true strong side linebacker earlier today, this one may work out.
According to DraftCountdown
He’s ranked one behind DeAndre Levy, so he’s a steal, or Levy was a reach
Yes is the answer...
…if that was a question.

honestly
i dont think this was that bad of a draft but it wasnt great either, i would say B range nothing lower then C+.. Also remember this is mayhew and shwartz first draft
LIONS
No
DeAndre Levy was a bad pick, and Aaron Brown I don’t even get him. We didn’t draft an OT till the 7th ROUND!!! We hit on some, but we missed on alot

Malauga Isnt a every down LB
…..Didnt want to waste a 1 or 2 on him…..We got DELMAS WHO WILL BE A PRO BOWLER ONE day……Getting these guys on the 2nd day is awesome….they play multiple positions and may stick around for awhile.
by BennieBladesFan on Apr 26, 2009 6:56 PM EDT reply actions
I'm not as high on Delmas but...
From what I heard, he’s the new leader of the D
I’m used to the QB of the D being an MLB, so I can understand the pick. He better live up to it though.
8 teams were trying to trade up to get Delmas.....
…….He was suposed to go anywhere from 20 – 35……Great Pick

No I was thinking the same thing.. this guy is exciting..
Of course… so was Dizon.. he looked like a machine in his footage too
and think about special teams...how many 40yd returns did they give up last year
now there are some tacklers for that group
Very very true
and should cut down on a modicum of points due to opposing teams great field position
and that was the one bad group we had last year
If not for those crappy special teams we would have been in the superbowl!
easy on the kool aid
i’m reaching for any sign of hope…i am completely confused by all picks today…and want to be hopeful not frustrated to start the season…
trade down
with the 255 pick oh there is only one left after that
BTW
That guy from Kent State NE drafted is a QB. NFL.com just updated it.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
I hope Quan Cosby gets drafted
He seemed like a good kid in the interview, it would be a shame if everyone passed on him
By the way (and delete this if you have to)
But Murtha looks like a white supremicist (in a good way)
That’s a scary dude.
colts pick
Did you see the big ol guy the colts just got 330 lbs???
Jamie Dukes spouting off again
Florida hired Scot Loeffler for that exact reason you idiot.

Loefller is one of the best in college
I don’t know about NFL. Not enough time to make a judgment either way.

So we said bye bye To the Lions guys

Agreed
At least the Lions are making an effort at a rebuild. Raiders needed a WR and they draft Heyward-Bey. We needed a QB and we draft Stafford, not Rhett Bomar. At least we’re trying
well lets hope
That this isnt as bad as Darko over Mello
Lol
Some Miami (Florida) fan just got ejected from the draft.

Nope
Too many other quarterbacks available would rather have John Parker Wilson

Question on ESPN draftcast
Dan (Bay City, MI): I was at the Lion’s Draft Party and there was quite a ‘Boo’ when the Lions chose Delmas over Maualuga. I was not among them but I really liked Rey too. Did the Lion’s make the correct choice, in your opinion?
Bill Barnwell: That’s an absolute slam-dunk move on the Lions’ part, to be honest.
Another question on ESPN draftcast
melissa (Michigan): Bill, what do you think about the lions draft thus far and what grade would you give them
Bill Barnwell: C+. They got the first overall pick wrong and everything else right. I love Louis Delmas — he’s the Finnegan for Jim Schwartz’s system, setting the tone.
schedule wise...
tough front 7 games…see what we are made of coming out of the bye week…hope we can head into the home stretch with at least 4 -5 wins
4 - 5 wins?!
Wow…you’ve been watching the draft too long. 4-5wins would be a great season this year!
The Lions need to rush there last pick to the stands then they can atleast get cheered

Anyone surprised Graham Harrel wasnt taken?
"Sometimes Joe (morgan) doesn't like facts to get in the way of his opinions."- billy beane
"That was a great pick...if this was 2002" Me, to guy who selected Barry Zito in a fantasy draft

In all seriousness...
I think we can hold out hope that they pick up some need positions from the undrafted FAs.
This is the strategy
Day 1, get best player at each position
Day 2. Special Teams, Special Teams, Special Teams
Think about it, why else do we get an LT that runs a 4.8-something?
I'll get the write-up for our new TE up and a recap later tonight
Then it’s study study study.

An above average blocker.
Theyre gonna have two TEs playing at the same time maybe? What is that, strong I or something?
They will actually
I was reading about our schemes last night…
