Draft Board

I wish they would have stuck to talent like they did on day one and then filled the need on day 2.    What worries me is that they had a game plan to stick to their talent board and they did but maybe to a fault.  I think in the later rounds its going to bite us in the butt.   I hope I'm wrong.  It's like saying I'm not going to eat so I can lose weight.  Yeah its going to work at first, but down the road its going to cause more damage than good.  Either way, I'm excited about our day 1 picks and I wish all the picks the best luck.  GO LIONS!

Hey, NM

I didn’t agree with the picks as they were being made. However, I’ve been forcing myself into a sense of optimism. We actually did get 3 starters on day 1. What upsets me is that glaring needs were passed up when great “talent” was there (Maualuga, Laurinatus, Jerry, Oher, etc.) Detpistons3 has a great fanpost that touches on a lot of good points:

My biggest complaint is that MLB was not addressed on day 1, and the attempt to do so on day 2 was half-hearted at best. It seemed like the Lions wanted to find a poor-man’s Aaron Curry; an OLB that might be good at MLB. I like both Levy and Follett, but I don’t know if they’ll hold up at MLB. Time will tell I guess. I’m not the coach, nor will I ever be, so I just have to trust what they’re doing for now.

Thanks

for your insight. I’m over the initial stages of shock and denial as well. I think that if we would have gotten a more established MLB or a OL early on in day 2 I would have felt alot better. I by far do not know half of what most of you guys not as far as scouting reports, but I’m sure the FO saw potential in some of our later picks. What’s really going to motivate my faith is Free Agency. I hope we make some good moves there.

I think

Mayhew will be regarded as a genious if we actually planned on Foote’s release from the Steelers and sign him. That will take care of MLB for at least 4 years as we groom one of the youngins for the spot.
