any chance sanchez falls to #20?

so lately i have been think that the lions should take Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry with the 1st pick, i would not be mad if Geogria QB Matthew Stafford was the pick, since i think that he is going to be a good QB, just that i think that we cant pass up the opportunity to draft the best player in the draft, who also fills a need. I really think that if we pass up on stafford that he is going to fall, possibly all the way down to # 10 pick SF, and then i think that it is very possible that sanchez could take a brady quinn type fall and the lions sitting there at 20 run to the podium and take Mark Sanchez, who i actually think is going to be better than stafford, the only thing people keep saying bad about sanchez is his limited starts at USC, but i watched many of his games this year and was very impressed with his poise and leadership abilities, so i say if Sanchez is there at 20, there is no way the lions can pass him up.

I like Sanchez

He’s got great touch, good accuracy and is just as good as Stafford in all areas apart from arm strength. Sure, he’s got limited time as a starter at USC but he shows lots of potential and should he come to the Lions he will (hopefully) have lots of time to learn. I would not be upset at all if his name is called first. To be honest, I just can’t wait for the draft.

Possibly

He has a definite chance. There hasn’t been a lot of talk but we we present at his pro-day and there has been whispers and rumours that we prefer him to Stafford so, you never know. We should know in the next 2 weeks or so as I suspect we will have signed the pick before the draft.

i prefer sanchez to stafford as well

i think that stafford is going to be good, but i think that sanchez is going to better, its probably going to be like a aaron rodgers and alex smith type of thing, where most expected rodgers to be the top pick and then SF picks smith

Freeman

I’d pass on him. Sure, he is big and athletic but he is more erratic than the others and seems to have a larger bust factor.

maybe a reach at 20, but how about at 33 if he is available?

I thought we signed Freeman already?

He just has Stanton on his jersey

If he drops that far

I would take the shot if he dropped that far but you got wonder why he had dropped that far, which would be obvious black flags. I see him more as a development QB, you know, someone who coaches spend time building for 2-3 years and I don’t think we should be targeting someone like that.

Sorry, That's a reply to the Freeman question, not Sanchez.

I don't think the Lions

should be trying to get a developmental QB. If anything, Freeman’s upsided looks like Jason Campell. He is not Daunte Culpepper (young pre Knee Daunte).

You need a guy you can work with, not a guy you have to teach.

I think the Lions are throwing curve balls

They havent done anything obvious this off-season. They might be playing their hand by giving as much attention to Stafford as they have. Making Sanchez look like plan B, when they really want him. I dont know though, cant figure Mayhew out.

i say LT,MLB,DT,DE ,but if we go with a QB at #1 sanchez is my pick he has all the intangibles and more, arm strength, accuracy, reads and reacts to defenses better, and comes from a pro style offense and throws accurate on the run if you ask me hes done better than stafford with less experience, but i would go LT first give him a year NFL expeience and draft our QB next year, and our defense will be stronger too which also helps by keeping score down and offense on the field and get veteran FA QB(whos won some games)to provide depth for culpepper and stanton

I think the Lions

would only draft Sanchez if they could trade out of the top spot. One team that has a stupid owner and makes poor decisions might just trade with Detroit, Oakland. If Detroit is picking at #7, I wouldn’t mind Sanchez, but then you’d have to think about players like Raji, or even Oher.

Raji, has major character issues.

I wouldnt take him till 3rd round

Raji won't go past Denver's #12 pick

The only issue I have heard with Raji is the pot thing. That isn’t going to damage his stock as much as one might think. Several top ten picks over the past few years have tested positive for marijuana. I don’t think it’s right but it didn’t drop their stock much.

Agreed

Raji’s problems won’t cause him to fall far. He still seems like he wants to play football and that’s what coaches and GM’s want to see.

He was acedemically ineligible 2007 college year

How often is a star of a major program unable to get on the field because of grades?! They have people to tutor these guys, put in sports theory majors and ride their talents to bowl games. If he is incapable of getting the minimal requirments to play, there is something there.
