POD Community Mock Draft: Pick No. 4

1 4 Jason Smith OT Baylor
General Manager: lions4life

With the fourth pick of the 2009 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith.

Here is lions4life's reasoning for the pick:

The signing of TJ Houshmanzadeh took Michael Crabtree off Seattle's board. In my opinion Seattle's first choice is Matthew Stafford. Seattle is perfect place for him to thrive, learning under Matt Hasselback. However, they are satisfied with the consensus top left tackle in the draft. Jason Smith is one of the most athletic left tackles I have ever seen, he has quick feet and good hands (used to be a TE). Left tackle is a glaring need in one of the worst OL in the league. It is still one of the top 5 picks and in the top five teams are still going after value rather than position. Jason Smith can keep the injury prone quarterbacks one their feet for the next ten years in Seattle

With a #4 overall pick, they're probably better off replacing Walter Jones

than going after a LB.

Jason Smith carries a higher-grade on most rankings than Orakpo and will make a bigger difference, as he plays LT.

Good pick

You cannot go wrong with picking a stud LT

Maybe...

but Hasselbeck is only 32. He has had trouble staying healthy though.

Seattle is thinking playoffs.

Hard to believe after they had such a horrible year, but winning the division is not out of the question for this team. Such is the state of the NFC West. A Left Tackle can help them now, and in the long term. He did not say so but I wonder if he would have taken Aaron Curry if he was here? Seattle might have grabbed Raji as they lost starter Rocky Bernard to the Giants. They did pick up Cole, but he seems to be a back up more than anything.

Good solid pick.
