POD Community Mock Draft: Pick No. 5

With the fifth pick of the 2009 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo.
Here is BtotheLT's reasoning for the pick:
With Aaron Curry off the board I needed to make a conservative decision and draft "workout-warrior" Orakpo. As much as I wanted to take Crabtree, the Browns have many needs and I considered a few different players but eventually settled on the Texas DE. Cleveland was 28th against the rush in the league last season and tallied only 17 sacks. I understand Mangini made a similar choice last season with the Jets however with a new squad he will attempt this again. As they say, if first you don't succeed try again. Bottom line I am very content with this pick considering Orakpo is an extremely athletic specimen that put up great numbers and won numerous awards his senior year. Reflecting on Orakpo's college experiance and his standout weight-room ability I am personally excited to see his NFL transition.

Good pick!
I definitely think the Browns would benefit from going defense this year. Their offense could be worse, so they need to shore up the points scored against them.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
Reasons the Browns wont take Orapko
1. Vernon Gholston burned mangini last year
2. He has an injury history and Mangini doesnt like that
3. He isnt fluid enough to play OLB, and isnt big enough to play DE
4. He should have dominated against OSU, but he didnt
5. Maybin and Brown are better

Orakpo
isn’t really a 3-4 OLB, he is a good fit for a 4-3 DE tho. I don’t know who the Browns should grab. They probably should either get Crabtree to pair with Edwards, or maybe even reach for a guy like Tyson Jackson. He is a reach yea, but he’s projected to #12 so maybe they will go ahead and trade down a bit at scoop up some extra picks.
I just don’t think Orakpo is a OLB in a 3-4. Maybin or Everette Brown also are similar. They are more Dwight Freeney types, although neither is as short but also not as fast.
Browns could really use Aaron Curry, but their pick seems the most likely to be a bust.
If trading was an option, i would have definitely attempted a trade.
Brown was an option I was considering, but i felt with the 5th pick overall it was necessary i draft value and talent. I did not want to reach for a player with the 5th pick. With Orakpo’s size and speed I believe he can make the transition into a 3-4 outside linebacker.
We wont take brown cuz we already have a OLB that played DE at FSU. Maybin is an option though as well as Raji and Crabtree

Good Pick..
I think this would be a good pick but if Braylon Edwards gets shipped out i could see Crabtree with this pick
Are there rumors of them trading Braylon Edwards?

Good pick.
He is the best DE available and Cleveland is desperate for a good pass rushing, run stuffing DE. The four DEs from last year had a total of 1, yes one, sack between them.
They did sign David Bowens from the Jets this offseason.
Bowens is an OLB. The browns would use orapko as a OLB because they run a 3-4. In a 3-4, the pass rush comes from the LBs. Please know what you are talking about before you post.

Not sure about this pick
What position do you have him playing? He’s too small for DE in Mangini’s 3-4 scheme, so I assume that you have him penciled in as a OLB, right? Your post doesn’t really say. Even if he’s selected as an OLB, I’m not sure he’s a good fit. I think Orakpo is 4-3 scheme type of guy. Maybe I’m wrong.
Orakpo doesn't fit here
That’s why I say its either Crabtree, they grab a tackle (not sure of their RT, or if they want to move Andre Smith to RT or even Monroe cuz he’s here in this Mock).
You know...
this might be a long shot, but if they trade Quinn, they might look at Sanchez here. What else do they have at QB?
