POD Community Mock Draft: Pick No. 9

With the ninth pick of the 2009 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Green Bay Packers select LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson.
Here is JazzyBBP's reasoning for the pick:
I thought about getting OT, but with Andre Smith having character issues and Oher being a reach at #9, I felt this would be the best pick at this time.

If I were the GM
Id use the 9th pick on another position. You can get a guy like Jarron Gilbert in the second round so I would not pick Tyson Jackson in the top ten.
What position would you go for 13usdriver?

honestly I dont really know the packers situation that well
But I just think using the no. 9 pick for Tyson Jackson is a stretch. Maybe the top CB cause Woodson isnt getting any younger. So Jenkins or Davis but even then I dont know if those CBs are worth top ten money. I liked the alternative pick of Oher or Andre Smith over Tyson Jackson.
I felt the top CB
in this draft at 9 was a bigger reach than Jackson. Not a burner in the bunch. I think there will be better CB value in later rounds
I doubt
Jackson goes this high.
Kinda like Raji to the Rams it really doesn’t make sense. The Packers DO have a definite need for a guy like Jackson so there is a chance they reach for him.
I just think you can like I3usdriver said you can grab a guy to play 3-4 DE in the later rounder, but you really can’t find a Aaron Maybin or Everette Brown later on.
I did consider the reach possibility
the 2 you have listed are more suited ends in a 4-3 alignment. I wasn’t comfortable with Maybin since he was only a 1 year starter. Everette Brown would be more an OLB in a 3-4, not DE, same as Maybin.
I meant that Maybin or Brown are 3-4 OLB's
But also true they would be better as 4-3 ends than switching to OLB in a 3-4.
They could be moved to the OLB tho and be fine. The pack are already moving Kampman, so they all could struggle together I guess.
Tyson Jackson will probably end up being the pick, as long as Raji is indeed off the board. I think in reality Raji will be the pick cuz in no way is he getting drafted by the Rams. He doesn’t fit Spags’ D and will be a reach at #2.
Also since the top OT’s are off the board in this mock, Jackson probably makes the most sense here.
Exactly, thanks
With Raji off the board, there wasn’t a pure NT to take this early. The RT position can be band-aided in FA, although Tauscher will probably be back midseason. The Packers offense was average last year, it was the injuries and lack of depth on the defensive side that put their season in the crapper
Decent pick
Its a tough pick here with a team that only has so many needs but they definitely need an OLB/DE with the switch to the 3-4 so this is a good pick. They will probably take Jackson, Maybin or Brown with this pick.
Solid
Jackson is a solid choice, I think Brown would of also been a good one.
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
Tyson J. is a good pick here.
I like this player a lot. As you mentioned Jazzy, E. Brown or Maybin could have worked here too. But Jackson will be very good against the run, which the Pack had a great deal of trouble stopping last year.
Good post, nice to hear your thought process regarding other players available.
I don't hate it...
…but I don’t love it. I think they could do better for themselves than this.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
Thats a testament to this draft class
not many players to love with the high picks. The guys who will do the mid-low round picks have it easy.
I think you Lions fans
are terrified at the thought of this guy lining up against Cherilus or Backus. It’s FEAR that makes you bash the pick!!! lol
I think Gos is going to look much better this year..
Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but with the new coaches, new offense, experience, and maturity he gained coming into this season, I feel like he is going to impress.
A lot of teams had him rated high last year and while we were all surprised when the Lions took him, it didn’t seem like analysts or anyone else was too shocked. Plus, aside from the penalties (which I say are partially because of the QB musical chairs and differing counts, and his being a rookie), he actually played fairly well as a rookie.
Gos was physically dominant last season
when he wasn’t getting penalties.
If he can shore up the mental mistakes, I’m looking forward to seeing him go up against good pass-rushers and beat the tar out of ’em.
Ya gotta like an OLman
who gets charged with assault in a bar fight. I want pissed off guys protecting my QB

The Silent Majority?
Jeez, where are 60% that voted against this pick? I see a few comments that say he is a reach but then don’t offer anyone else at this spot.
Yeah, E. Brown is a possibility, but he is close to being a reach here.
Come on voters, give the man some feedback!
I voted no
but since I cannont make a recount cuz Raji will indeed be available here. Or vote trade down.
And I cannot get rid of my no vote cuz the more I thought about it Tyson is a good choice, even if its a bit of a reach.
