It's all Paul Edinger's fault!!!

In the final seconds of the last game of the season in 2000, freakin Paul Edinger kicks the game-winning field goal that keeps the Lions out of the playoffs.  Not only do we go to the playoffs if he misses, but we probably don't hire the porn-stashed meathead Matt "lipshitz" Millen.

DAMN YOU PAUL EDINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want the last eight years of my life back.  He probably get a little smile on his face everytime someone for the D bitches about Lipshitz (That's my pet name for Millen).

Just think

Just think of the players the Lions may have had or free agent pick ups that may have came to the Lions i mean in those 8 years you have to figure there may have been 5 to 10 big name players that may have been Lions what a waste of years and great players

What do you know about Ray Finkle??

deep breath Soccer style kicker graduated from Collier High June 1976, Stetson University honors graduate class of 1980, holds 2 NCAA Division One records, one for most points in a season, one for distance, former nickname “The Mule,” the first and only pro-athlete ever to come out of Collier County and one hell of a model American!!

Laces OUT…..DIE DAN!!!

Einhorn is Finkle…..Finkle is Einhorn!!!

Scott Norwood anyone?

The difference? Edinger nailed it when it counted…..

I wasn't alive when it happened

But it stings all the same.

In 1970, we were leading against the Saint’s, who were actually worse than the Lions. Tom Dempsey, a guy born with half a foot, lines up for the field goal and nails it from 63 yards out a record that still stands.

A good friend of mine

Holds the all time collegiate record (last I knew)…..he kicked a 65 yeard FG in a game at Alma College right here in MI.

Actually..

The longest FG in NCAA history 69 yards. Ove Johansson, Abilene Christian. 10/16/1976

johnny on the spot!

I figured out where you are finding the NFL stats, but where are your finding the College stats????

by davis0169 on May 16, 2009 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I have alots and lots of books..

And I do not use NFL.COMfor my NFL stats.

by JCruize on May 16, 2009 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I guess I need to ...

put an asterisk on Johansson’s kick. He used a 2 inch tee. So NCAA does not consider that to be a modern day record. So, their are four tied with 67 yards.
DIV. !-A
Joe Williams Wichita St. vs. Southern Ill. 1978
Russell Erxleben Texas vs. Rice 1977
Steve Little Arkansas vs. Texas 1977
DIV II
Tom Odle Fort Hayes vs. Washburn 1988
Other FG Records
DIV III
Dom Antonini Rowan vs. Salisbury 62 yards 1976
Longest indoor kick
Chip Lohmiller Minnesota vs, Iowa 62 yards 1986
in 1991 the NCAA narrowed the width of the post to 18ft 6 inches( before 23 ft 8inches)
The Longest kick with the narrow post
Martin Gramatica Kansas St. vs. Northern Ill. 65 yards 1998

A kid named Rick Brand

Kicked a 65 yard FG at Alma College in 1999…..and I witnessed it in person. What is your source?

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions

the offical NCAA record book

http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/football_records/D2/2004/2004RB.pdf

go to page 120( about there) It is a adobe format. It is from 2004 through. To my finding no kicking record was broken after 2004. I was trying to verify Davis post about his friend from Alma kicking a 65 yarder. But even on the Alma website there is no mention of that kick. I have record books. But this was the best I could find on-line

by JCruize on May 17, 2009 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

That was my friend

And I was there when it happened…..it was prior to 2004 though, so I was hoping you had some source that would show it. No big deal, but I know it happened because I saw it with my own eyes.

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I was hoping to find it too

I think that would be cool. All I can think of is there was some sort of a technicality what the NCAA did not list his kick. Cause I have a feeling somewhere someone has kicked a 70 yarder. But I wish Alma would have it on their site.

by JCruize on May 17, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I know

I checked there too…..they only go back to like 04 and they do not list records.

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I have seen that

same list on other sites. No all are offical NCAA records.

by JCruize on May 17, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions

let me correct myself

Johansson’s kick is not offical because Abilene Christian College was not a member of the NCAA at the time,.

Hey Rev read this quote from the coach
His best memories include beating Albion College in the last games of the 1998 and 1999 seasons to win conference titles and the 60-yard field goal by Rick Brands against Franklin College in 1998. In the Morning Sun article, he called Alma College a special place.

by Runnin' Rebel on May 17, 2009 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice.....

Maybe it was a 60 yarder…..I’m getting old I guess.

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

It was beauty in action

You guys should have seen the frat parties after that game….:o)

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

how much do you

remmeber? from the drinking not the age thing :0)

by JCruize on May 17, 2009 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

From the game?

I remember the game clearly…..I still swear it was a 65 yarder because I remember at the time saying that it was longer than the NFL record, which was 63 yards at the time. Rick Brands was in all of the newspapers and even on the news after that kick…..I knew him from classes and in the training room (I was volunteering hours working as an athletic trainer, as I was a sports medicine major). I remember talking to him about it being longer than the NFL record. I wonder why the coach said it was a 60 yarder, and I wish I could find out for sure somehow.

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

The parties

Were CRAZY!!! There is a whole block of frat houses at Alma, and everyone was partying that night. It was alot of fun.

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

It was a special place for me too

But one person ruined it all for me….and eventually I dropped out of Alma. It is a long and sad story for me….not a girlfriend, but a teacher ruined my experience there. It’s in the past, and I like to remember the good times I had there.

by KDawg on May 17, 2009 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol

For a second there, I thought you meant you weren’t alive in 2000 when Edinger kicked the game-winner. I was amazed that an 8-year-old could put together the analyses that you have. :)

by AZ Yooper on May 15, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

haha

If I could find an 8-year-old like that, I would adopt him. Lions fan prodigy!

where can I look that up???

I’m pretty sure that record fell in the last few years. I cant remember who but I am 90% sure that that record did fall very recently!!! I’m trying to find it. . . .Jcruize can you give me a hand here???? You seem to know where to find those kind of stats.

by davis0169 on May 16, 2009 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Alma is DIV 3.....

and I don’t know if the records go across all divisions…..I am guessing not.

REV

NFL.com only gives pro-stats . . .I think….

by davis0169 on May 16, 2009 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions

My bad

Wasn’t sure what you were asking for…..getting late. :o)

by KDawg on May 16, 2009 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions

my bad

Jason Elam tied the distance didn’t break it back in 98 and 2 others fell 1 yard short both of those guys did it in 2006. Sorry i found it on NFL.com a day late and a dollar short. Hey RALPHGOBLUE thats how it’s done when you know your wrong….come back with the right STATS and say I was wrong…

by davis0169 on May 16, 2009 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

I blame R.W. McQuarters more

I just remember hating him with a red-hot passion after that game. 2 picks, one for TD, and one sack that was a FF. He was all over us that game.

by AZ Yooper on May 15, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Yep

He sure was…..hey didn’t he play for us for a minute? If he did, didn’t he suck? I can’t remember….
