Lions sign their starting LG?

http://gridironfans.com/forums/latest-nfl-headlines/97008-lions-sign-veteran-g-toniu-fonoti.html

Fonoti was fightning for a starting spot in Carolina ,one of the best OL in NFL

also signed Eric Hicks     he will add depth to DL

at least  these signing will bring depth 2  of the teams weaker areas and will drop the lower rung players off the depth chart .. thats always a good thing

  now go get Foote   plz

Fonoti is a bit of a headcase...

from what I’ve heard. He was a starter for San Diego and then his play went downhill as well as his behavior. I think this is a stab at depth/resurrection. I wouldn’t pencil him in as starter.

Loper is intriguing, however. Schwartz may know he has something here and that’s why they didn’t draft a guard. Still… he wasn’t starting for the Titans. We’ll see…

Was the post on the front page not good enough for you?

And this guy didn’t even play football last year. I doubt he is anything more than depth.

Sean

This was the first that I had heard of the Lions signing Fonoti…..was that in your front page post, cause I must have missed it if it was. I agree that it is unlikely that he will be the starter, since he failed to make the regular season roster of the last two teams he signed with. I assume that it is because of his conditioning, his attitude, or a combination thereof. However, we could be hopeful that he is ready to play ball again. He was a stud at Nebraska, and he was a starter for awhile as a pro. Most likely he was signed for depth, as you stated, but maybe he come into our camp in playing shape and works his way back into a starting role. At this moment, I’m not sure what our best option is at LG and I certainly welcome the addition of a young guy who has experience playing LG in the NFL.

Sorry

I see where it says they signed Hicks……but nothing about Fonoti.

Here is the quote in the blue:

Seeking to add depth, and perhaps create some training camp competition, the Detroit Lions have added a pair of veterans, neither of whom played in the NFL in 2008.

The team confirmed it has signed defensive end Eric Hicks, and guard Toniu Fonoti to one-year contracts. Financial details were not immediately available.

Ralph's clock

works in reverse. In about ten years, Barry Sanders will be back with the team.

Neither does Ralph

Everything he says is the honest truth, no matter what alternate universe he’s from.

1 thing's 4 sure

There’s gonna be some competition for starting jobs on the line, Backus & Raiola had better take notice.

The FO

Has a massive hard on for both of those guys… Raiola has no one behind him to worry about. Backus is gone after this year.
