0-16
The Lions are going to be a better team but, Kevin Jones needs to shut his mouth. When Kitna did this all it did was make the Lions look immature and Jones hasn’t even proven himself. At best the Lions go 8-8.

Don't worry, he is still in the preseason.
But I think you could make a template out of this thing:
The Lions are going to be better (mainly because they couldn’t get worse), but (insert name here) needs to shut his mouth.

Dear Lions fans............
I am here for one reason cincyboy is a MORON and a shit-starting machine. She makes claims like she invented the question mark and the Bungles are a good football team and she is the best defensive back on her girls high school tennis team. My point here is that if you want to make your lives easier going forward do as we have done in the Hog Haven and ban her form your site now.
P.S Good luck this year.

I am banned from your little website because I took a stand for my team. I started blogging on Pride of Detroit because Lion fans are actually pretty good people and listen to suggestions. Don't worry cincyboy
I can understand that you might not have a feel for the Lions like most of the fans on this site do. Kevin Smith is probably just getting anxious, as we all are, for the season to get here. People like RedskinCali63 (is that a rash ointment?) occasionally visit our site and try to impart us with their profanity-laced, narrow-minded, uninformed wisdom as if we don’t already know that our team didn’t just come off the worst season in NFL history. We know our team and it’s players. We also know what to expect from them. This is nothing new. Likewise, the comments from RedskinCali63 are nothing new. We ignore posts like his and you should too. Go sit down, have a bowl of Skyline Chili, watch an episode of Dhani Jones Tackles the Globe, and relax.

I don't know our p[layers anymore
I havent a clue what to expect. 7 or more new starters on defense. a new TE another year of experience for smith and calvin and culpepper at 30 lbs lighter??? New coaching staff. Schartz seems to know what he is doing. BUT No I havent a clue what to expect. They could win 9-10 or win 4-5, but I havent a clue what to expect thats what makes this year so much different then the last 5.

Some of you "fans" need counseling
Wow.
Never before have i seen such a loser and failure’s mentality.
Tell me, why do you losers think this wont happen?
Do you realize that the team is NOT the same team as we saw last year and that 70% (est.) of the roster is different than last year?
You can realistically make the playoffs at 7-9.
I hope none of you guys work for a suicide hotline.
a little positive thinking every now and then isnt a bad thing.
Would you be happier if Smith came out and said our goal is to win 4 games this year? Is that the kinda guys you want on a team?
I appuald him and every other team mate for wanting to do better and not strive for mediocrity like some of these so called fans.
Remember, Schwartz came from a winning program, he isnt trying to meet a goal of 4 or 5 wins this year or make the playoffs in 3 or 4 years. Thats YOU guys. This is the reason he has re-vamped the roster.
This guy wants to win and win now, and his infectious attitude is spreading to the team.
If AZ and ATL can do it, and we now have the tools to do the same, then why cant we do it?
Lets get off of this “Bobby Lane Curse” crutch and quit blamming Millen (even though he did suck) and back our guys and support the team. Even if you dont agree with them 100%, can you guys at least fake 50% of it??
geez!!!

Lay off the coffee
I can see your point. But you’ve got to understand that year after year, we get these predictions from players on our team. Kitna, Roy Williams the year before, and now K. Smith. Don’t get me wrong, I like their attitude, but until they can actually back up their talk and give me a reason to believe in them, I’ll expect nothing more than 5 wins a season.
by giggy09 on May 8, 2009 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly
Enthusiasm’s great, but it’s pretty tough to back up a prediction of 0-16 to playoffs made just a couple days past the midway point of the offseason.
If they can back up the talk and do it, it would probably be one of the greatest moments of my life as a football fan. Until that happens, I’m trying to stay realistic.

Yes...
I would be happier if Kevin Smith predicted 4 and 12. That’s still four more wins than they had last year, and it shows that at least they have intellegent realistic players on this team. l’m not sure where you are getting the 70% of their roster estimate from, but even if they turned over 70% of their roster, they were 0-16!!! They could be 1000% better, and have 10 times the wins they had last year and still have zero wins!!! I agree withy giggy, they’ve talked the talk before; I wanna see them walk the walk first.
by Mushy on May 8, 2009 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
First thing the
players from Atl and Arizona will say is " We surpirse alot of teams" You dont surprise teams by claiming your going to the playoffs. The Lions need every advantage they can get. If teams think in their minds that is is just the same old Lions. Than good. But putting a bulls eye on your chest. Will not help this team get wins.
by JCruize on May 8, 2009 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I do like that the players are optimistic. They ought to be.
However, we as fans are setting ourselves up for a letdown if we expect playoffs. I think the possibility exists that they could do better than most of us (myself included) are predicting, but attaching a lot of hope to that is why fans of this team are bitter year after year once it hits mid-to-late season.\
I want this team to make the playoffs (and eventually the Super Bowl) more than anything, but I’m not going to get my hopes up until I see some serious change on the field this fall. Until then, I’ll stick with my prediction of 5-11. That would be a solid year for a rebuilding franchise such as ours.

K. Smith has a point though
The Lions were close to winning a lot of those games. We should have beat Minnesota TWICE if it wasn’t for bad officiating. We lost 8 games by 10 points or less. I mean that just means 2 good drives or 1 drive and 1 stop by our defense that seems like it has vastly improved. If you think about it, its not THAT far fetched and with a new coaching staff with a winning attitude I think we can pull it off. Its not like the teams in our division are that stout anyways. Its always a tight division and you can make the playoffs at 8-8 or 9-7 or maybe even 7-9. We can do it so have some faith in your home team.
by lionsfan22 on May 8, 2009 1:18 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Define a lot. Is it two or three?
We lost to Minnesota by two and four points, and to Chicago by four. A few other games [three ?] gave the appearance of being competitive but it never looked like the defence could ever get it together long enough to mount a comeback.

I concur heartily in the 12-10 offiiciating fiasco.
The non-call on Calvin was only topped by the phantom call on Detroit later in the game. And as usual, Sergeant Rod did his best to screw it up as well. I recall some futile runs into the Williams Wall.
After that game I had a real bad feeling.

"Shut up shut up shut up shut up shut up"
That’s what I thought when I first read yet another pre-season prediction.
However, it’s exciting to know that they have that kind of confidence in the new system coming off such an unforgettably wretched season. I love it! They gotta come out strong like this. Will we make the playoffs? We wouldn’t with the type of mentality we all have…so hopefully, they approach it differently. That is why I can handle the K. Smith quote.

You are killing me with your Detroit knowledge throughout this whole post. I appreciate trying to get in on the conversation but you have said some way off things. Kevin is our starter and there is no doubt about it. Hey but I appreciate that you are now calling him Kevin Smith instead of Kevin Jones.
by qbdoyle1 on May 8, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Don't think I'm ragging on your team or anything
But 0-16 to a conference title? Detroit is building from the ground up. I am not saying it is impossible but do you remember when Kitna made predictions that they would make the play-offs and how it made the whole organization seem childish? Detroit is going to be way better that’s for sure but lets not crown their asses yet.
by cincyboy on May 8, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't name K-Smith the starter yet
They brought in Maurice Morris and remember that Marenli drafted Smith and not Schwartz. He has a good chance but it isn’t his quite yet.
by cincyboy on May 8, 2009 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I am not worried about you ragging on our team
I think an 0-16 season is ragging enough. As a Lions fan it is hard to read your posts when you state that this all came from Kevin Jones (our RB 2 years ago) and not Smith. Then not to think that he will be our starter next year is way off. I appreciate your opinions on the situations by IMO I just think you are wrong. Nothing against you personally but that would be like me (a lions fan) going to your site and saying that Chad Johnson Ocho-Cinco (whatever the hell his name is now) isn’t going to start.
Cincy, this is not directed towards you but In regards to the looking foolish for making these predictions….What is a pro athlete going to say. " I think we will win 1 game!" If he says that or even 3 games then people are going to have the opinion that he isn’t a winner or doesn’t believe in the team. If a professional player made that statement I am sure that would be criticized too. When your team just goes 0-16 and be as bad as we have been in the past decade any prediction is going to be scrutinized. Why not have Kevin or Kitna or whoever say that we are going to be good. What truly is the harm in someone predicting to be good. After all it is just a statement.
I personally only think that they will win 5 games but I for sure do not want anyone on the Lions team to think that. I want them thinking playoffs at all times.
Sorry for the long rant

…that is just a PR game that all teams play when they make huge personnel shifts like this.
Kevin Smith will be the starter, with Maurice Morris backing him up on certain downs. And I don’t see why cincyboy is so flabbergasted by the idea of Detroit winning the division. I mean, did Miami not go from 1-15 to the playoffs?? Not only that, they were the 3 seed. The Lions don’t HAVE to win the division to make the playoffs. AND, our schedule isn’t as bad as last year’s.

You know what is funny?
The Washington Redskins are the joke of the NFC East. If you look at the NFC East, the only team that doesn’t belong is the Redskins. The Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys are perenial contenders, and then there is the Deadskins. Their QB is a whine ass crying pussy, who was threatening to ask for a trade if his deadbeat team even tried to add another QB in the draft. Yet, he is the worst QB in the division and his presence screams for his team to upgrade. It is brutally obvious that they have a QB on the bench that is far superior to Campbell in Colt Brennan, and that guy came from Hawaii….a true rainbow warrior. Where is the strength of their team? They are a team full of castoffs from other teams. Their entire offense rests on the shoulders of Clinton Portis….and when he is injured, they have to rely on Suisham to win games for them. They have what…..like 7 players on their entire team that are actually good? DeAngelo Hall, Fred Smoot, Hayneworth, Jansen, Samuels, Santana Moss, and Portis? Good may even be a stretch in some of these guys cases. The rest of their team is mediocre at best. Oh what an accomplishment to have beaten the Lions so many times…..too bad they can’t beat good teams when it counts. I love the Lions, and I am well aware that our team has major issues, but I for one am extremely happy that I can see the forest through the trees. At least we aren’t fans of a team who thinks they are high and mighty, when in reality they are barely better than the worst team in the NFL last year. 9-7 with losses to St. Louis, Cincinnati, and San Francisco?? They barely beat the Lions and the Browns too. 6-3 in the first 9 weeks and 2-5 after the bye? Can you say choking down the stretch? The real “losers” in this case are the idiots who think they are so much better than the Lions and Bengals, when they are actually very comparible. How about a nice warm glass of shut the hell up?

I'll take 0-8 home record anyday over
the worst stadium experience of any team in the league and not making the playoffs anyway

Truth hurts doesn't it
You guys are pathetic.

No, this is funny...
In 40 years, the Detroit Lionesses have never even BEEN to a Superbowl (LOL). They are perennial losers, highlighted by becoming the only team in NFL history to lose all 16 regular season games. That is pathetic…

On the other hand, the Washington Redskins’ organization has won 5 league championships, 5 conference championships, over 10 division championships, and had over 20 playoff appearances!
P.S. Our record against your franchise is 28-10. We own you!
P.S.S. Check your math, smart guy, 6-3 and 2-5 don’t equal 9-7. LMAO
HAIL TO THE CAPITALS !!!!

True fan here.
Well I’m going to support K. Smith on his statement. Last year was a complete fluke. Rod Spaghetti and his crew couldn’t coach pee wee football. We got some real coaches now. I’m behind Mayhew 100%. I like the moves for the most part. They have a scheme that most of us don’t understand. I say that we will be in contention for the playoffs.

Rod actually is a decent coach
He just had a terrible GM.

He's a good position coach and a good guy...
which is why he got the job as HC here. As a head coach, however, he was in way over his head. He tried to fit his players to the system, as opposed to the other way around. When that didn’t work, he brought in b-squad retreads from Tampa to fill the holes. It became apparent pretty quickly that the majority of these were not starting-caliber players. Then, he put the absolute wrong people in place as coordinators, and we got our magical 0-16 season last year.
You are spot on about the GM, though.

Only warning
To the Redskins fans that made their way over here, you will be banned if your only comments are about another user. This thread is supposed to be about what Kevin Smith said, and it’s obvious that it’s gone way off topic. To cincyboy, I don’t know what beef you have with the Redskins or their fans, but if you start posting like you did on Hogs Haven, you will be banned. I’m not saying you have even come remotely close to it considering you’ve been friendly over here, but I’m just giving you fair warning.

I'm going to go ahead and close the comments on this post
To the Redskins posters, please stay off the site if all you have to say is how much the Lions sucked last season. You don’t think we know that? I already know about cincy’s past and can see why he acted like he did in some situations on your site. That doesn’t make it right, but you guys aren’t all that classy, either.
