Not just an ordinary Joe

Guys I know that this is our Lions fan site. But we have talked about and mentioned the Pistons on here a few times. With that being said, how happy are all of you guys at what has trasnpired over the last few days with our Detroit Pistons. First Joey D gets rid of his 1 year experiment refering to Curry. And then I come home from the fish market today and fire up the old computer and see that we landed Ben Gordon today. WOW what a difference a week makes huh? So any idea's or has anyone heard any rumors about who may be coming in to replace Curry?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Pride of Detroit's main writer, Sean, or the site in general. FanPosts are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable fans.

I keep hearing Doug Collins is coming back. Not a good choice, imo.

by JazzyBBP on Jul 1, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I hear

alot about Lambier coming to the Pistons. He dropped the Shock coaching position last week.

by shanndiggit on Jul 1, 2009 8:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

it is not just Gordon

but the Pistons also got Charlie Villanueva. That is huge. Two young talented players.

by JCruize on Jul 1, 2009 9:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No sh*t?

too both of you guys. I didn’t know we got Villanueva also, and I didn’t hear anything about Billy Boy leaving the Shock. That would be pretty cool to have a bad boy back in control.

I can't

remember where I read that Lambier left the shock but I know I saw it. Being up all night I read alotta junk.

I'll wait until a coach is hired

But I’m a little “meh” over some of Dumars recent moves.

same here

Getting Villanueva puts Prince in Limbo and getting Gordon puts Hamilton in limbo. Maybe they trade one or the other or both. But first you have to find someone to take em. Not to say they aren’t worth anything but now they know they are trade bait for sure. And other teams know that too. That puts us on a potenial low ground when trying to deal them. I am sure Hamilton isn’t happy as it is with the way we dealt Billups and now you get him competition? We shall see what happens between now and the beginning of the season if these moves pan out.

I've read that

Gordon is coming under the understanding that he will come off the bench and play the 3 with Rip depending on the matchup. Villanueva is a solid 4 that will immediately step into the starting lineup depending on what happens with Dice and Sheed, although it seems as if they’re both probably gone

I hear you Sean, I believe he will make more than RIP.

Can you say the return of the Microwave? :o)
Ben agreed to come here knowing he would come off the bench," the source said. “That makes it completely different than Iverson coming here … Gordon is choosing to come here and play the super sub role.”

Later in the article this was said:

Now, Detroit sports a three-guard rotation of Rodney Stuckey, Hamilton and Gordon, with Tayshaun Prince and first-round pick Austin Daye at small forward, with Villanueva starting at power forward. If Wallace and McDyess both leave, Detroit would have a hole to fill at center, with veteran Kwame Brown the most likely candidate at the moment.

I like it already. Maybe the Pistons will trade Sheed and Dice, or a combo of Kwame Brown and one or the other of those 2, for another center. I think Dumars is making the team younger and strong once again….but that is just my opinion maybe.

Same link as above.

Aren't they free agents?

Sheed is going to be a Cav, Spur, or Celtic.

You are right Sean.....

Sheed and Dice are both unrestricted free agents…..damn it! I guess I shouldn’t have assumed that they were both still under contract. I just didn’t check into it before I spoke.

That said, Kwame Brown is still under contract until next year…..I wonder what Joe D could get out of him. I wonder if they could p0ackage him and Maxiel for a guy like Bosh. All I know for sure is that unless we get a good center, the Cavs are going to run away with the Central and probably the title next year with Shaq. Ariza might go to Cleveland too…..

Dumars has been drinking too much of his own Kool Aid

Wasting 16million on Gordon, And Villanueva is uncalled for. With young big men like Milsap, and Lee available he focus is way off. Unless Joe has trades already in the process for one or both I am greatly dissapointed that Joe turned Chauncey into Ben Gordon.

Sorry Leapin Lion

But I have to disagree…..and I love Chancey Billups too. He was the heart and soul of the Pistons when he was here, and when he left we lost our leader. However, CB will be 33 years old this September, and he is not getting any younger. Joe was just trying to sell high, even if it didn’t work out as planned. Ben Gordon is a rising star and he is only 26. With Rip and Stuckey, we will have a set of three dangerous guards (a lot like the Bad Boys of old with Thomas, Dumars, and Dantley (or later Mark Aguirre…..not to mention Vinnie Johnson who was there all along).

I’m not sure why you don’t like the Villanueva addition either….he scored more points in Milwaukee last year than Tayshaun did for us. As a matter of fact, he outscored everyone on our team last year and he is a power forward! I find that impressive. Are you just speaking from the contract he carries, or you think Milsap and Lee are better players?

by KDawg on Jul 2, 2009 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Adding fuel to the fire

That speculation about us going after all the free-agents next year or making that trade for Chris Bosh. I know I’ve heard enough gossip about it in the past year or so.

by davis0169 on Jul 1, 2009 11:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Do you think that Joe D might.....

Trade for Bosh to play center in Detroit? Villanueva will be the starting power forward, and Bosh is listed as a PF-C for the Raptors. Kwame and Dice for Bosh? lol…..Sheed and Kwame for Bosh? Sheed and Dice for Bosh?

by KDawg on Jul 2, 2009 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

??????

I’m not really sure but I know that there has been alot of skuttle-butt about it the last year or 2. And about RashWEED Wallace, I loved him for the first few years but we need a big guy that wants to go down low on the Offencive side of the court and it seems to me that Raweed just wanted to stay outside and shoot 3’s all day, so if he leaves he will be missed but not all that much. And just like CB he is definitely getting up there in age,he probably only has a couple of decent years left, I think we will miss him more on the D than the O.

by davis0169 on Jul 2, 2009 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Duh....

It has come to my attention that Sheed and Dice are unrestricted free agents…..Kwame Brown is still under contract until 2010…..

I wish I knew what Joe D was thinking.

by KDawg on Jul 2, 2009 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bosh will be

a free agent next year. And he is being talked about going to Detroit.

Thankfully

Doug Collins pulled out of the head coach race. Hopefully Avery Johnson gets the job, as he’s really the only other serious contender it sounds like.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Bill Laimbeer

If he could at least be an assistant coach for the Pistons, that would be good enough for me.

by BIGWalt2990 on Jul 2, 2009 9:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Avery would be nice

And he was a Defence preacher to the spurs while in charge there, so I would liketo see him as our coach. Just wish I could undestand half of what he says. Me personally would rather see Billy Boy come be our coach, bring that toughness back to our team, well that and maybe teach our downlow guys how to flop propperly.

by davis0169 on Jul 2, 2009 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think

We should have stuck with Flip Saunders……but Avery might do a decent job. Bill Laimbeer could be a good HC possibly also.

How un Millen/Fordlike

is Dumars firing Curry? It was a great move and he isn’t going to accept mediocre. I love Dumars and I would love a mind like that leading the Lions. If it isn’t working get rid of the a holes. You don’t let them sit around and pray to God it’s going to work.

And signing Gordon and Villenuava is a great move. You pick up the best players in the free agency. Get rid of rip and run Stuckey and Gordon, Prince and Villenuava, and hopefully get a good big man for rip and some other draft picks or players and you have a GREAT line up.

by ImPuLsE on Jul 2, 2009 2:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gordon

Was signed to be the 6th man…..and I know that seems odd, considering the 5 year 55 million dollar contract, but that is what was said to be agreed upon. Rip and Stuckey will start, and Gordon will rotate in off the bench (at least in the beginning). I think it is likely that Gordon will earn a starting role before the end of his 1st season in Detroit. Personally, I would rather see Stuckey coming in off the bench.

by KDawg on Jul 2, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

all I can say

is Joe D said Stucky is not a true PG and is more of a SG. So by that reasoning why the hell did you go get another SG? So we continue with Stucky as PG even though you don’t think he is the right man for the position? Now Gordon maybe a good 6 man. After talking to some people all said that he was better coming off the bench and scored most of his points in the 4th QTR. But that still does not solve our PG options.

by shanndiggit on Jul 2, 2009 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I want Chris Paul in Detroit

But not like that will happen…..

There is a chance that Rip will be traded…..unfortunately. Stuckey would remain the PG and Gordon the SG…..unless they reverse roles so that Gordon is the PG and Stuckey moves back to SG where he belongs.

Is there no way to teach a guy to be a point guard?

by BIGWalt2990 on Jul 3, 2009 7:13 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If the Cav's get Artest or Ariza

Then none of this will matter because they will be unstoppable. Shaq, Lebron, Williams, West, Artest or Ariza, Illguaskas Adding 2 good players to what was already a very good team will give no one in the East a chance.

by ImPuLsE on Jul 2, 2009 8:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

most definitely

The best record this year and thenyou go and add Shaq and it looks like Artest, reguardless of what we think about him he is still a scorer that can play D as well as anyone in the league.

How about

Rip to the Raptors for Bosh? I would welcome that after the signing of Gordon

by CR on Jul 6, 2009 12:18 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If they could pull that off

I would be all about it.
