My Beliefs
As the summer grinds on and I find myself working 85-90 hour work weeks, I find myself slowly drifting into September. Right before pre-season practices begin and the pecking order of the depth chart, these are my beliefs on what will happen in the near future.
1. Culpepper will be the starting QB week one and will hold down the job as long as he plays good or keeps the team in games.
2. For some strange reason the offensive line will be greatly improved don't ask me why?
3. Bringing in Peterson and Foote will quickly show us what a pop warner defence we had last year and we will over react and cry for them to get extensions.
4. Sammie Lee Hill develops a lot quicker than anyone ever thought.
5. Gunner keeps to his word and blitzes like crazy, Lions finish in top ten in sacks.
6. Johnson goes above expectations and a early MVP buzz starts.
7. Schwartz does what he say's and the lions pound the ball and control the clock.
8. Felton plays a bigger role running the ball not blocking.
9. The lions return a kick off and punt for a TD this season
10. Lastly the lions win 6 or more games...
P.S. I've been away so long even the fan posts have changed "scary"

I can agree with most of what you said
Two things I would absolutely LOVE to see:
1) “Gunner keeps to his word and blitzes like crazy, Lions finish in top ten in sacks”.
2) “Schwartz does what he say’s and the lions pound the ball and control the clock.”
If either one of those things come to fruition we will lose our voices from all of the screaming, because the Lions will win the Division. Not only would the defensive pressure of being top ten in sacks force a lot of 3 and outs, giving our offense more chances to score, but also it will take a bunch of pressure off of our secondary, thereby allowing them to get more INTS. Turnovers and capitalization on turnovers win games.
Furthermore, if the Lions successfully pound the rock and control the clock, that means that their offensive line will be playing very well. With a strong and consistent running game, our passing game will open up and we will see some big plays like the days of old with Culpepper and Moss. Add in the fact that we are effectively managing the clock, and controlling time of possession, and we will be winning games.
Put both of those things together, and you have the two main factors that produce playoff teams in my opinion…..clock management and QB pressure.

Or you could say
Time of Possession and forced turnovers………

I would love to see most if not all of those points come to fruition.
To be honest, if only one or two came true, then I’d be ecstatic…I still have very low expectations for this season.

I'm with you
I have low expectations. As much as I want to be optimistic because of all the changes, I can’t. It’s still the Lions and no matter what they always find a way to let you down. But this season they can’t really let us down because anything will be an improvement over last year.

Let me take you back to a time when the Lions started 6-2.
This defense was tied for 1st place in the NFL ‘s +/- turnover ratio category. If this new defense can come close to that this year, there’s a good chance that half of the for-mentioned criteria won’t matter.

I want to see
K. Smith rush for 1500 yrds and get 13 td’s.
I would love to see blitz after blitz. after blitz.

If all that happens...
we better win more than 6 games. Haha.

I 100% agree with you except...
the top ten sack thing. The pass rush was terrible last year. granted it will be better but still you gotta think logically. otherwise you hit the nail right on the head good job dude.

Our pass rush was actually decent
Considering we managed 30 sacks, which ranked 16th in the league. I’m not saying we were brilliant at rushing the passer, but it was definitetly not our worst area.

Yea, Sacks arent the problem....
The problem was we either got a sack, or had NO pressure…we need more consistant pressure..hurried throws are just as good and can be even better than sacks if the DBs can take advantage!

I'm all for...
…signing Foote and Peterson to extensions right now! Talk about your overreaction!
