Thursday Notes: Ricky Sandoval Passes Away
- Lions director of security Ricky Sandoval passed away today at the age of 49 after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. My condolences go out to the Sandoval family.
- I chimed in with my thoughts on when Matthew Stafford should play on the Washington Post's website.
- Dennis Northcutt is "excited" about playing for Detroit, so much so that he is coming in with the attitude that the Lions won the Super Bowl last season.
- Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez have remained good friends and hung out quite a bit at the rookie symposium.
- In a ranking of franchises from the four major pro sports leagues, ESPN The Magazine had the Lions at No. 119 out of 122 teams. The Red Wings came in fourth behind the Los Angeles Angels, Carolina Hurricanes, and Pittsburgh Steelers. If the Wings had a new arena, they'd probably top the list.

Any Guesses where the Lions would rank if they were still in the Silverdome?
Hey, we do have a nice new stadium.

I wonder who came last in that set of rankings?
I was surprised to see our coaches ranking at 88, Schwartzy hasn’t even coached his first game yet. Well, we still did move up a spot from last year, how that was possible I’ll never know.

LOL
It’s the Los Angeles Clippers……
The Angels were #1……how ironic.

Geez, the Clippers must be BAD
I tend to only pay attention to football, not to interested in Basketball, Baseball or Hockey, so I have limited knowledge of the teams and their fortunes.

Yep
In regards to the Angels….who are on top of the ultimate rankings…..this was said about the Clippers:
All of which is utterly opposite the anti-Midas touch exhibited by the owner of our last place team, the Los Angeles Clippers. That would be Donald Sterling, a billionaire Beverly Hills real estate baron who faces federal racial discrimination charges. For decades Sterling notoriously squeezed profits from the Clippers, who have been the biggest losers in pro sports (707—1,317) during his 25-year tenure as owner in LA. And the 2008-09 season was one of the most epic disasters in the Clippers’ sorry history.

And they only sell out in the playoffs...
I don’t understand that pick at all… I can understand the Steelers… Not really the Angels though either…

I heard the Angels games are great for families
A few years ago on a business trip I met a couple of guys from California. They were big baseball fans and had been to a number of different parks. They raved about going to see the Angels. They said it was clean, reasonably priced, good security, fantastic customer service, etc. Add in that the Angels are generally competitive and I guess I can understand it.

My heart and prayers go out to the Sandoval family
Ricky has been a pillar of courage over the last three years and an inspiration to us all. This awful disease can take our lives, but can never kill our spirit or remove the imprint that we make on those left behind. I hope that he is now pain-free and basking in eternal sunshine.

Ricky Sandoval
showed courage and grace. His dedication to his job, to his family and to many others who found themselves in the same battle against pancreatic cancer is an inspiration. God bless Ricky, his family, friends and all whose lives were touched by this giant of a man.
