Culpepper Starting

So it looks as if the Lions are staring Daunte tomorrow night for their first preseason game.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcnorth/0-13-92/It-s-Culpepper-for-the-Lions.html

As pumped as I am to see how the QBs react to game time situation, I would've liked to see Stafford under center first. Throw him into the mix to start the game and see how he handles the crowd and intensity, even if it is just preseason. I think it would be a good experience and give him an idea of what NFL games are like. Thoughts? I already what some of you will say, as this debate has been raging on since draft day. Just curious what my fellow Lions fans think.

Works out better for Stafford

With all of the injuries, Culpepper’s turn as starter will be with the b team anyways and Stafford’s turn to start next week at least has a chance of having the real starters.

Plus if Stafford is second and they said 2nd quarter, he’ll end up with more field time which is more important than “starter” field time especially since the only perk of starter time (the starting cast) is mostly injured.

well since

most of are starting offense is injured i think culpepper should start, an plus just to let it soak in to Stafford that its the nfl let him look around get a feel for the intensity and sounds i think he should play 2nd team for atleast 2 weeks then week 3 preseason start but be 2nd when the season starts. imo

Kevin Smith let em kno, Ernie Sims Break em, Calvin Johnson you already Kno

Here is Schwartz's comment on Daunte starting.
Just moments after making the announcement, Schwartz said it really doesn’t mean anything.

Culpepper and rookie first-round pick Matthew Stafford are in a battle for the starting quarterback job and Schwartz said that Stafford would likely get the start next week against the Browns in Cleveland.

Really, someone had to start first and Schwartz is doing this in a fair manner.

I didn't think it was a question

on who would start, Culpepper week one, Stafford week two. Whoever plays the best week 3, and the beginning of the regular season.

No more "curses" The Lions will prevail !!!!

The thing I noticed about my Lions is that they can score on a team. If they got shut out and didn’t win a game, then I would say they were awful. But, offensively, they scored… if they get it together DEFENSIVELY… and not let teams score on them…. IT’S ON!!!!

Getting Stafford Some Experience

I like Schwartz direction with this. I want to see how Stafford reacts to starting. I know it’s not regular season yet but he could make a big impression. I still stand-by Culpepper playing all 16, unless of course he gets hurt. I don’t want to pull Harrington with Stafford.

Agreed

I would be totally fine seeing Stafford make a briefer version of Aaron Rodgers’ introduction to the league. They waited and waited with Rodgers, and now look at him. He had a SOLID year.
