POLL: Will Favre+Vikings help us or hurt us?

I'm curious how everyone in the Pride feels about Favre signing with the Vikings.  Specifically, how it affects our chances of beating the Vikings this year and beyond.

On the one hand, he's a Hall of Fame-bound QB who probably still has ability, even way past his prime.

On the other hand, yeah, he's way past his prime.  Also, signing him could lead to locker room division on the Vikings, and ultimately disappoint and distract their other QB's.

Poll
Does Brett Favre signing with Minnesota help or hurt the Lions?
It HELPS the Lions' chances. Favre is too old to be successful, and his signing will distract and/or divide the Vikings. He's taking opportunities away from Jackson and Rosenfels and will create more QB problems in the long run.

It HURTS the Lions' chances. The Vikings finally have a QB they can really win with. Favre + Peterson will be really tough to beat.

It helps...

…I think he is joining waaaay too late. And the Lions are hungry, and I predict Delmas picks him off.

The Media needs to go away….lol…
Here you have one of the greatest QB’s of all time.

Screw Green Bay. If Favre can still play and the Vikings still thinks he can play, then he should play.
Screw the Media. If you’re sick of hearing about it, then turn off the TV when its on and email the networks that cover it.

Good on Favre!

That being said, It looks good for us Lion fans… Cutler is making waves(not the good ones), Favre will be making waves(not the good ones)… and hopfully it will effect Rodger’s play and psychy….

GO LIONS!

Hurts in the short run (this year)

helps in the long run.

Depends on your priorities. If you want to see the lions in the playoffs this year, I think those chances are even lower now. If you want to see them have a chance at the division next year, I think our chances are better now.

Agree

I’m sure Favre will still play pretty well, which probably won’t help us. But, on the whole, the Vikes will come off worse for wear.

2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).

I can't wait to take it to him......

…….I’m heading to the Vikings game at our home opener, can’t wait to see us tear him apart. I’ve been saying for years that he’s washed up…….the amount of interceptions he throws is ridiculous. I still remember laughing when he threw that last pick in the NFC Championship w/ the Packers……vintage Brett right there, just winging it up on a prayer and getting it picked

by Angry Johnny on Aug 18, 2009 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

I don't see it

helping or hurting, Favre might be more accurate than Sage or T-Jack but the Vikes just don’t have the receivers to get open enough for him too throw to.You add Favre coming into camp late, no #1 rec, lost a Center guard and tackle off of that O-line, How much is Burks departure going to mess with the rythem, I don’t see how he can help them, he better learn how to run again or hit those 4 yard routes.

by davis0169 on Aug 18, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions

we didn’t lose our guard. we only lost a center and our tackle got his spot taken by a 6 8 330+ pound monster in loadholt. And you can’t really think our success is going to falter from missing our center. We have a new center in his 3rd year out of Notre Dame who’s been learning from Birk anyway so it really doesnt change that much. And we might not have a number 1 reciever but we’re not the only team without a number 1 (Giants, eagles, bears, ravens, etc.) but he’s a damn good number 2 plus sidney rice who’s coming back from injury, visanthe shiancoe who had a good year last year, percy harvin who is hella fast, and wade and johnson. Favre will definately hurt the lions this year

by vikesfan4lyf on Aug 19, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe maybe not

I like shiancoe no doubt he has gotten better every year since coming into the league,Berrian still has some good speed, wont argue that either, but after that come on, Rice you are right showed signs last year I know he was on my fantasy squad until he got hurt ,I have not gotten to see the Vikes on TV as of yet, and for the sake of the conversation you guys better hope that shoulder can hold up to getting popped and drove into the turf a few times, I know you know I love the NFC north as I’ve stated a few times over on the norsemen, so I say this with caution, You teams hole season is litterally on Favres shoulders. Or at least 1 of them. I could of sworn that someone said that you also lost a Tackle, so my bad, but a 3rd year backup hasn’t had to call out who gets who on blitz pick-ups as of yet, so lets not get carried away about him as of yet.You guys are all very high on loadholt I know but he still has to prove that he has enough speed to go with that mass.We dont have a speed rusher as of yet but the other teams in this league do, andhow is the depth on that O-line? I don’t beleave that you guys have talked about that since camp has opened. As far as wade and johnson go. . .come on do you really think either of those 2 are worth even mentioning? What can Favre do? Only Revenge4Favre can tell. Sorry had to put that in there. He is such a dweeb, you know he has been all over himself since Favre signed.

Favre had the playbook....

I think that Favre got the playbook the last time he was up in Minnesota, or better yet it was brought to him in Miss. Either way, he has at least seen the playbook long before this week. He is starting on Friday, he probably has some idea of what is going on.

For the record, I am sick of Favre and think that his legacy has taken a major hit. However, let’s not kid ourselves here. Do you think this makes the Vikes better? Are you kidding me?? They have Sage Rosenrosen and Toofaris Jackson as their other options…need I say more. Well I will anyway. Favre showed last year that he is still in the upper half of QB’s in the NFL. Not to mention the #1 rush offense and defense that Minn already sports.

Don’t under estimate the Vikes. They are now the class of the North. Favre is better than Cutler too.

As for the Lions…..
The Lions aren’t going to make the playoffs, but they do need to show some improvement and solidify some positions for next year. Next year should be different.

Favre vs Jackson vs Rosenfels, last year

2008:

Favre: 65.7 comp %….22:22 TD:INT….85.4 QB Rating….6.7 yards/attempt
TJack: 59.1 comp %….9:2 TD:INT….95.4 QB Rating….7.1 yards/attempt
Rose: 66.7 comp %….6:10 TD:INT….79.5 QB Rating….8.2 yards/attempt

Rosenfels had the best completion percentage and the most yards per attempt last year of the three QB’s, but the worst TD/INT ratio.

Jackson had by far the best TD/INT ratio, more yards per attempt than Favre, but a lower completion %.

Favre had the fewest yards per attempt of the three, and was in the middle of the two in TD/INT ratio and completion %.

Given his age, I don’t think it’s clear that Brett Favre will be the best quarterback of the three in 2009. In 2006 or 2007 absolutely, but the guy has 18 seasons of wear & tear on him now. He’ll be 40 years old in October.

It’s possible he plays better than Jackson and Rosenfels this year, but I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion.

It helps the Lions...

Favre USED to be great. Now he’s good but OLD. I predict he will have some nagging injuries, not enough to sideline him but enough to limit his abilities while he downplays the fact. I also predict he will have more picks than TDs. You read it here first. (OK maybe not, I know I’m not the only person thinking that.)

Guy called into 97.1 and said...

Isnt Brett Favre just doing to the media what he has done his whole career, which is forcing himself into coverage? HAHA

Great write-up by Ross Tucker

Read this, and you’ll feel good about how the Favre move will upset Minny players and leave them feeling miffed. I think Tucker’s dead-on (as usual).

Something I "HERD" today

on “the hurd” on sports talk, they were talking about the soft schedule that Minn plays this year not team wise but in terms of temperature. Favre is only going to be outside for 1 cold game this year and that is against Chicago in late dec/jan. Other than that he has all dome games or is playing in the south during the cold months. This is more important than we want to think it is. All those bumps and bruises and carteledge in his body wont be freezing cold and he isn’t going to have as many nagging injuries while playing in all the controled temerature games that they play this year. Still happy to hear that the rotator cuff is still torn, there goes some of his zip.
