Lions Waive Daniel Bullocks, Sign Robert Francois
The Lions have put safety Daniel Bullocks on the waived/injured list. That means he has been waived, ending speculation over what Martin Mayhew would decide to do with the injured safety.
Bullocks' knee that was surgically repaired a couple years ago had been bothering him all training camp, and it had been awhile since he practiced. Speculation originally suggested that he was destined for the injured reserve, but the Lions decided to simply waive him. With the safety position looking good as far as depth goes, the Lions obviously felt they were in good enough shape to open a spot on the roster.
That open roster spot went to linebacker Robert Francois, who was released by the Vikings to make room for Brett Favre.

Well, another 2nd rounder bites the dust
That’s just a real shame. I guess we’re looking at drafting another safety again next year.

Does that mean we take a shot at Mays?
Personally, I hope not, We have Line issues that need help.

I think Mays is special but....
Next year has gotta be DE, DT or LT for our first rounder.

Yep
Maybe an Okung or a Dunlap for the Lions 2010 draft.

I think we learned our lesson
Detroit will draft the best player at the drafting slot next year again. Obvious exceptions now are QB and TE.
If we pick 11th and Mays is the best value at 11 (hypothetically), then I bet we pick him even if a DE or DT or OT is on the board that everyone wants. Heck if a RB or CB is the best value we’ll probably pick them.
Granted, if we pick 11th and there isn’t at least one DT, DE, or OT even or better than a safety on the board then that must be one helluva safety.

Can't rule out TE
I know its extremely early, but it certainly isn’t unprecedented that a talented young player just can’t get/stay healthy enough to be a long term solution. Mr. Pettigrew is certainly not off to a very good start in this department.

Yea. Take a Lineman this year, and trade up for Eric Berry next year.

BTW...mark it down. Berry will be a better pro than Mays

Taylor Mays is the money. The 2010 draft is deep real deep in safeties.

I feel sorry for Bullocks
He had a horrible run with injuries, and that’s unfortunate because he always showed potential.

Yeah...
…he showed signs of being capable of playing at this level, just never could stay healthy enough to make a good run at it. I wouldn’t rule out him making a return to the team. While another team may take a look at him, the Lions at least know what they’re getting with him if they take him back at some point.

They should...
Be taking a good look @ Eric green, could be a contender for #2, was the man in AZ a few years back. Could move AH to SS, as they had indicated. Though, he didn’t look too bad starting #2 CB last week.

poor guy
I was pulling for him. Talent/heart was there, body just wasn’t. But I wouldn’t spend a 1st rounder on a safety next year. DL/OL, CB if it were to fall into place.
But I foresee us having an opportunity to take a elite lineman, whether it be D or O is the question. Top 5 pick again. Still on the line for 4-5 wins, think Killer is a little too low with his prediction.

hey @ least
he wasn’t one of the many 1st rnd WR picks or QB’s for that matter, who don’t even play in the NFL anymore. But, ya I thought he was gonna be good & may very well have been, if it wasn’t for the injury cloud that seems to hang over them each year.

How can the guy play last year, not really get hurt then all of sudden
be waived??? didn’t he play most the season. Was it a pre existing injury or did he do it in camp again.. Just weird…

New Sherriff in town
New regime, and maybe Bullocks just isn’t fitting into the scheme or the mindset or whatever the Schwarz and Cunnigham crew is coming up with, in addition to the injury thing.

Pearson and Delmas?
Are these two the tandem at safety now? Is Henry going to get a shot back there? I must be forgetting someone because I can’t really see how the Lions are so deep at safety.

Marquand manuel, from Denver
Idk what ever happened w/ Otis Wiley either, any1 know?

kinda bummed...
Bullucks seemed to have potential, but the coaching staff must have seen his ability didn’t outweigh the injury, maybe they have a person in mind they can trade for or a free agent, other wise Pearson or Manuel will have the starting spot.

I'm kinda hoping Francois makes the team...
…and makes an interception or gets a sack against Favre when the Lions and Vikes play….I’d love to see what sort of celebration a man in that situation would come up with, and it’s kinda fun imagining what might be going through his head, too.
