Are the Lions doubting DB?
So the Lions put Daniel Bullocks on the waived/injured reserve list today. With Bullocks' recent visit w/ Dr. Andrews (THE NFL Dr. de jour), no one was particularly surprised with this move but what took me aback was the timing. If the reason behind the move is to clear up a roster spot, why wait so long? You know he's going to get picked up by another team. Maybe, in the best senario, Robert Francois is a stud that Minnesota foolishly let go. Maybe, more realisticaly, DB has lost a step.
Daniel was a second round pick not to long ago. Certainly someone worth taking a look at by the new regiem. He came into practice and didn't impress and when he tweeked his knee and had to sit out, the Lions sent him to Dr. A for a looksee. That obviously didn't go to well. I love/hate Swartz' new policy on injuries because it doesn't let the opponent know who's hurt and who's not and to what extent, but it doesn't tell us either.
So why not wait the few weeks and just put DB on IR, retaining his rights. Instead, the Lions decided to give 31 other teams a chance to sign the former second rounder who has show more than a flash or two and someone whom I was personally looking forward to watching on Sundays. I assume this is a serious injury and he may/will never be the player he once was such a short time ago. At least I hope that's the case.

To be honest I do not think you can be too surprised with the release of Bullocks. At times Daniel showed signs of greatness but far too often did I see him bite on his reads and get burned over the top. I think he had A LOT to prove when he came into camp this year because of two reasons: 1. the depth at safety, this is a position the lions are surprisingly not thin at and 2. Hard hitting Louis Delmas.
Bullocks was then put in a rough spot, a possible diamond in the rough, but he was chosen by the old regime, already a strike against him, they draft delmas who seems to be turning heads every time he hits the turf and people, and finally he gets injured and guess what the lions are looking to bolster down on that thin LB corps now that spencers hurt.
I think the choice to get rid of him was a weighed risk move by the management and coaching staff. Have a mediocre safety take up a roster spot for the entire year while a team is attempting to rebuild, or make room for some new talent at lb.

slow down a minute
I didn’t say he was a stud. I said that the best scenario would be that they released bullocks because they thought Francois could be a stud and was simply a “numbers game” cut w/ the signing of Brett. I was thinking the Lions released DB at the time they did because Francois just became available. I don’t know a thing about the guy. Never heard of him till this.

i disagree
they released him cause hes play has lost a step an he is injury prone,
they signed francois cause hes the best player available right now that is quick to sign

Hmmm
Could it also be that another safty who played for a diffeent team as their starter that is already on our roster and looked very good in the 4th quarter when he actually got on the field is going to be next to Delmas when the season starts.I’m just hoping that shwieg gets the job not only because he’s a good safety but because he’s another homestate grown player. And hopefully he represents the Valley better than charlie the magic dragon, i mean puff puff pass Rodgers.

I liked Bullocks
Sorry to see him go. Schwartz said “tough decisions” and I think that this was probably the toughest so far this preseason. Schweigart has been making some noise in practice lately and seemed to get a lot of reps in the last game, so maybe he’s the guy now. As long as someone steps up, we’ll be o.k.. The Gunner will make sure we’re not the worst D this year.

either way
he cleared waivers and the Lions have retained his rights. They did decide to shut him down for the whole season. Not a good sign when they could have had him back in week six.
