O.K my turn to ask your Opinions on Fantasy options.
Going to give it to you quick how our leagues scoring system works. My big money league (if there was such a thing) is going to do our draft on the holliday weekend and I'm mulling over a few ways to go and I want your opinions. First off this is a TD only league, yardage don't meen shit! Please rememer this later. 1-9 yrd=6 points 10-39yrd=9pnts anything over 40=12. if a positional player scores a TD in a different manner ie. a rb catch's/throws for a TD the point values double 1-6=12 10-39=18 40+=24. Same goes for QB's and WR's if they score an "untraditional" TD points double. . . .No if you draft say Hester and he returns a punt/kr for a td those go to Def/ST. Understand so far? Cool, So My delema is I draft 4th out of 10 in the first round and ofcourse 7th in the second, the key this year is I draft 1st in the 3rd. So I am Damn sure Brady and AP are gone 1 and 2 in no particular order, I am thinking that either Brees or P.Manning is going to go 3rd. With this senerio playing out would you guy's take L. Tomlinson at the 4 spot and on your swing pick(7th 2nd rd) go and take R.Brown from Miami? There would still be many top tier players when I draft in the 3rd round and I am probably going with the top WR since I think that position is week with top tier picks. A johnson isn't that good in our league because he gets shit loads of yards but not so hot on TD's. Another Senerio is Taking Moss with the 4 and on swing trying to grab another top WR due to most if not all elite RB's will be gone by second pick. Then getting top tier QB in 3rd round. What do you guys think, I really think LT is the way to go but you guys have already had a few drafts and I was curious also who fell in your guys's drafts? Did rb's like Grant/Slaton/K Smith/P. Thomas "sleepers if you will" who was there in the middle rounds that surprised you guys.

I haven't had any drafts yet
And I’m not telling you my sleepers…;)
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
I am not a fan
of giving points for the length of the TD. I mean, it is a huge gamble already trying to guess who is going to get the TD. Adding points for how long the TD is seems like a random multiplier. I don’t want one lucky pass to end up being 10% of my point total for the week.
And, yes, I did see that the POD leagues use this model.
My sleeper for you is a guy named Calvin Johnson. I hear good things.
+1 and fantsy invite
We opted for PPR instead of one long TD pass for big points on one toss. The grunt recievers get no credit.
PS We are trying to have a NFC North challenge league. I really need a couple more Lions fans to join in. It is just a fun league but if you want in we are scheduled to draft on Wed night.
Write me at vgerkovich@yahoo.com would love to have a couple more of you guys in there.
Thanks

I'm gonna put up a post for people to discuss our rules shortly
That way we can get everything ironed out before the draft.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
If Peyton Manning or Drew Brees is there at your 4th pick
You have to take them. I would definitely suggest the best avail RB at pick 7 after that.
What I'm shooting for is a first round (non)bust like my last 5 years
Last year I had the swing pick 10 then 1. And I cursed Moss and T.O. last year. At least last year both of my first 2 picks stayed on the field, even if T.O. had the worst year for him scoring td’s and Moss of course lost Brady in the first quarter. I guess I am curious who you guys all think are going to be stud’s since I have a tendancy of picking the “can’t miss” guys who seem to allways miss or get hurt. I still think I personnaly ended Terrel Davis’s carreer. When I drafted him 2nd over all. Marshal Faulk, was never the same either, Priest holmes . . . I basically blew his hip out for him.Kordell Stewart never started again after I drafted him 3rd. The sad part is I have ended quite a fw carreers in our 17 years of playing, going as far back as Bo Jackson. No really! 2 bad for our lions I don’t draft 2nd cause I would Kill AP’s carreer this year.
Brees and Manning are both pretty sure fire picks
And with pick 7, why not a guy like DeAngelo Williams (he led the league in rushing TDs last year). Personally I think LT is going downhill, and Ronnie Brown choked down the stretch last year. It’s definitely your choice, but if I were looking at guys who scored TDs ONLY, I would be looking at Peyton Manning or Brees at pick 4 and then a guy like DeAngelo Williams, Micheal Turner, Brandon Jacobs, Matt Forte, MJD, and even Chris Johnson, and Steve Slaton before I looked at Ronnie Brown or say Lendale White (who also scored quite a bit last year) at pick 7.
good point
I really want to take Moss early ad a second rec in second round because I think that the wr position of elite"s is thin, where as rb’s are in plenty, especially when I think guys like Grant/K Smith/Slaton are going to slide, I’m guessing on this ofcourse. In your opinions how many TOP tier QB’s do you think there is this year. I think 4 or 5 and heres who I think they are. Brady;Brees;P.Manning 4 and 5 are bias A rodgers and Rivers in no particular order. And thats not even thinking about McNabb,Hasselbach;Palmer;Ryan;Favre;Big Ben. Just give me your top 5 guys. Remember TD only and I know it’s guesstimating.
Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, and Warner
Are my top 5 TD throwing QBs…..I would say Rivers is 6th.
You could maybe get Moss at pick 7……but my opinion is that RBs are thinner…..maybe not RBs that score TDs only though. Just remember, RBs can get both rushing and receiving TDs.
stud wrs
ive done two drafts and im tellin yaif you want a stud wr you better get one in the first two rnds.
2 both come and REV
I agree Rev that there is in my opinion 5 to 7 good/great QB’s the 5 you named and ofcouse Rivers always has the potential and so does McNabb in my opinion. I personally think that RB is the deepest position in this years drafts for Studs, I am just scared to take a WR at the 4 spot due to the fact that I got Burned badlast year by Moss and T.O. with my swing picks last year. Logic says I am an idiot if I don’t take 1 of the elite QB’s Brady;Manning;Brees. but with there only being 10 teams in our draft after who-ever takes a QB then they have to scrape by on what ever is left at the rb/wr/te positions. If I take say either Moss or Fitz at 4 on he swing I am pretty confident that either Megatron or Wayne should be there, with me drooling over getting megatron, Yes I am the biggest homer when it comes to FF. I have taken the first lion in the last 5 years of our draft and usually to high.I just can’t figure out if rb or wr is the way to go, and it’s driving me nutz! Having the #1 pick in the 3rd round does give me a shot at alot of top teir guys reguardless of what position we are talking about. Rb’s usually go inthe top 3 rounds so if i pass on them early then I have to get my sleepers right. Something I seem to have a knack for, going back as far as Terrell Davis’s rookie year to A Green his breakout year to S. Alexander when he burst on the scene. Even last year I called ot D.Williams/Slaton/C Johnson(why did I cut him after week 3) Slaton/J Stewart/Forte. So I think(hope) i can get lucky once again with guys that I feel might slip this year like R Grant/K Smith/P Thomas/Rice(balt)/McCoy for the Eagles this year, I woul love to say any RB in denver but Shanahan isn’t there no more so I’ll sit back and see if they can run first.. What do you guys think about these 4 this year or do you guys feel that another might be just as dominamt this year.
Gotta go
Elite QB man. I would say you should consider Manning, Warner, or Rivers. As to which one of those 3 you would pick…I have no idea, and am glad I don’t have to decide. The 1st round aside from AP, should be all QB’s taken. So you’ll still be able to get a good RB in the 2nd. If you go RB, then getting a QB won’t be pretty as many of the elite/good ones will be gone.

Pierre Thomas and Ray Rice
Could have breakout seasons…..both are likely to be the starter in platoon situations though. Kevin Smith should be a decent option as well as Ryan Grant (if he can stay healthy and if the Pack isn’t pass happy again).
Honestly, if I were you Davis…..I would take the best avail QB with your first pick, followed by the best TD scoring RB…..you have the first pick of rd 3……get the best WR you can get at that point. I really don’t know what makes the RB pool any deeper this year than last….Moreno, Wells, McCoy, Shonn Greene? Knowshon Moreno might end up starting in Denver, but will they be RBBC or just a RB merry-go-round? Beanie Wells is having injury issues already too, and is having a hard time beating out Hightower. He will be RBBC even if he does eventually take over. If Westbrook can’t stay healthy, McCoy might be a decent option, but if Westy stays healthy McCoy will not play much. Shonn Greene is in platoon behind Thomas Jones and Leon Washington…..
The rest of the RBs are pretty much the same as last year….there are very few workhorse backs anymore (they are a dying breed). The backs that are not in a RBBC situation are thin as hell…..if you can get one of them at pick 7, it is my opinion that you would be silly not to do so.
TY rev.
I think you are right about having to take a QB at the 4 spot, and if I didn’t value your opinion so much I would laugh it off but you make a strong point. Now let me throw a monkey wrench into the equation: Lets assume that who ever is at the 3 spot takes one of those 2 QB’s would you take the default 3rd QB at the 4 spot? Or would you go with the 2nd best RB? And if both Brees and Manning are there which 1 would you choose? Brees cause he seems to throw for longer TD’s or Mr. steady Manning and all of his 6 and 9 pointers.
The only reason I think the RB position is deeper
this year is there is going to be guys like D williams/Slaton/J Stewart/Johnson/and Forte are going to get picked quicker this year after they established themselves last year. The more the merrier.
Shi
t……I was confused bro…..I thought you had the 4th and 7th picks, not the 4th and 17th picks….and that changes things drastically. If I were drafting in the top 4, I would be drafting a QB for sure….no doubt about it (being that it is a TD only league). Let’s assume the following scenario:
1) Brady
2) AP
3) Brees
4) I had previously written up a huge analysis about QBs and RBs for you, but I deleted it when I realized that you do not have the 4th AND 7th picks…..I would be taking a long hard look at Rivers (34 TDs in 08), Warner (30 TDs in 08), Aaron Rodgers (28 TDs in 08), or Peyton Manning (28 TDs in 08) here. I also now see what you meant about RBs being deep for your league (TDs only….duh!!). I would probably either choose Rivers or Manning here (Peyton only had 27 TD passes last year, but the 2 previous years he had 31 both years). Let’s say you like Manning.
5) Rivers
6) Warner
7) Rodgers
8) Romo
9) Cutler
10) McNabb
Round 2:
1) DeAngelo Williams
2) Michael Turner
3) Brandon Jacobs
4) Maurice Jones Drew
5) Tomlinson
6) Ronnie Brown
7) So here you are again….and nobody has taken a WR (Fitzgerald and CJ both had 12 TDs each last year and all of the above picks had more than 12 TDs last year). You could shake it up and pick one of those two guys, or you could look at what is left at RB before they get too picked over. Westbrook is still there….he had 14 TDs last year, but he has injury concerns. Lendale White (15 TDs) Thomas Jones (15 TDs combined), Matt Forte and Pierre Thomas (both had 12 TDs combined), and Chris Johnson/Steve Slaton (both had 10 TDs combined) are all there. I would suggest Forte, CJ, or Fitz…..whichever one is there (if any). If they are not ALL there, then there will be someone, who I figured would be gone at this point, who is available. Let me know if that helps.
This is interesting I’ve never heard of an only TD league. I think you obviously go QB in the 1st round. Maybe Warner or Rodgers at #4, if the 1, 2, and 3 pick indeed turn out how you think they will. Then in the second round, I would try to get Jacobs. (Though he should be gone by then)
I’ve got a question though and I probably should have started out my comment by asking this haha, but oh well. You draft 4th in the 1st round. Then 7th in the second round, and 1st in the 3rd round? I don’t think AP would go in the 1st or 2nd in the 1st round if it’s an only TD league. I know it’s based off of how many yards the TD goes for but I would have to think the first 4 or 5 picks would be all QB’s. Probably in the order of Brady, Brees, Manning, Warner, then Rodgers. I would say draft a top tier QB with the 4th pick because they pretty much always have at least 2 TDs a game, and some of the time 3 or 4. I have never done one of these leagues, and therefore really have no idea what order the RBs would go in. I think maybe you try and get Jacobs in the 2nd round. The Giants have one of the best rushing attacks in the league, and with Jacobs getting more carries this year I would expect him to have even more then the 15 TDs he had last season. In the 3rd I would try to go RB if there is still a good one left, because like you pointed out there aren’t many WRs who score a ton of TDs. I think picking Moss there, or possibly in the 2nd round would be a smart move, though it’s a bit of a risk.
That’s just my opinion on things. I’m still not even sure I understand the whole correctly haha but that’s my two cents.
Oh yeah guys
As odd as this might seem this is a very dominant RB draft, I usually try to get an elite rec, but i guarantee that at least 6 rb’s will go in the first round and atleast 5 more in the second. For some reason and I can’t explain what these guys think, but most of them beleave that you have to have 2 or more dominant rb’s. And Packallday we still have 5 of the original 9 that started out this league 16 years ago, our senior years in highschool, and since non of us had a computer back then we had to do all the stats and scores on a notebook and the “bible” the Saginaw news paper’s box scores. I can tell you guys that out of the top 20 picks it will breakdown something like this RB’s anywhere from 12-14 Qb’s 3-6 wr’s 4-8. Even though QB’s and kickers are the highest point getters every year these guys feel that if you get the rest of your team before your QB you have the best chance, something along the lines of . . .if I can’t have the top QB then i’m going to get the top RB and so on and so on.I have not drafted this high in years I usually get 7 and lower so I try to suck up as many of the elite WR’s as I can so that I am dominant at 1 position over everyone else. But drafting at 4 is all together diff. I am going to get either Manning or Brees in the first, one or the other will be there if not both. And on the swing I guess I would say grab the top rec and 21st pick grab what’s left of the elite RB’s. I might get lucky and have a guy like C johnson slide or Forte. It’ss just so hard to tell ya know.
Right
Sounds like it’s very hard to tell. Haha ya, it seems odd to me that QBs for the most part don’t rule the 1st round, but in normal fantasy leagues RB is the most imprortant position, so maybe that;s why everyone seems so bent on having 2 elite RBs. You might actually to be able to take advantage of this though. I guess I still think you take a RB in the 2nd because if RBs go like you say they do, then it will be hard to get an elite RB in the 3rd. The only way I would take a WR in the 2nd if I were you was if, Moss, Fitz, or CJ were left…otherwise forget it. Draft a top RB, like Jacobs or R Brown. Then pick up Jennings, White, AJ, Smith, etc. in the 3rd.

If Rogers
keeps on rolling like he has. Would either of you guys take him in front of Brees, not Manning thou? In my opinion P Manning is the second most reliable QB reguardless of TD only or a yardage league. Does that sound right too you guys.
I wouldn't take anyone over Brady or Brees
If it were a keeper league I would say go with Rodgers over Manning, but only because of the age. Since I don’t think you are dealing with keepers, I would say take Manning ahead of Rodgers. Dude, I doubted Philip Rivers too….dropped him and watched my little brother claim him. Man did I regret that move.
If it's an only TD league....
I think you could possibly take Rodgers over Brees. Rodgers had 28 passing TDs, and 4 rushing TDs last year. He looks much improved this year so far, and I think he will have 30+ TDs again this year. It’s a tough choice, but whoever you go with will likely put up great numbers. I don’t think you could take Rodgers over Brady though, and probably not Manning either. Keep Rivers in mind as well like KDawg pointed out. If you get any of those 5 I think you’ll be just fine at QB haha.

Hey Packman
You have too be bursting inside with all kinds of giddyness, It sure does look like the Pack are def. the front runners coming out of pre-season for the north title this year;pending injuries ofcourse. I really think I am going to try and grab Grant again this year if he slips into the 4th or 5th round. I also hope that Driver gets overlooked again this year in my draft. Last year he didn’t get drafted until the 7th round.
I sure am
We looked great last night against the Cards, of course they don’t have Boldin or Fitz, so that helped us a ton. Our 1st stringers had 3 takeaways against the Cards 1st stringers, with one being returned for a TD. Both teams 1st stringers were in the whole 1st half, and at halftime it was 38-10 us. Rodgers really looked good, and the offense never had to punt. We’re all pretty excited over on APC. How did your 1st unit look today against Manning and the Colts?
