Talk of 0-16 Two Seasons In A Row?
This is my first ever FanPost so if I get this wrong, don't shoot me. So before I anger the entire Lions fan base, let me start by saying I in no way believe something as horrific as 0-16 twice is even possible. Just with Detroit's upgrades on Defense, specifically the Linebacker core, we should be able to muster out a few wins this season. But looking at the schedule this year, it's arguably possible that the Lions will be 0-6 going into the BYE week.
So I pose to you this question:
How much talk is there going to be in the media about another possible 0-16 season for the Lions, if they're 0-6 at the break? We already know the big story with the Lions at the start of this season is going to be "Can rookie coach Schwartz dig the Lions out of an 0-16 hole with his revamped Defense and No. 1 QB draft pick?" But is the media going to jump on the possibility of another winless season for the Lions if they're 0-6 at the BYE week? I know statistically it's almost impossible. I just hope news outlets don't turn this possible story into a media frenzy like, say, Brett Favre's Viking mess. I, for one, will quickly get sick of hearing any jabbering about 0-16 twice. Just want to get the thoughts of my fellow Lions fans on what your takes are on the matter.
Is this something you see the media covering like crazy? Or will there be bigger team stories this season to overshadow the lowly Lions?

I don't think
0-16 will be thought of as a possibility for you guys again this year. You basically have an entirely new defense, with some proven guys (Foote, Peterson, Sims, Jackson, Henry, Buchanon), and you have some young players too that are expected to make some noise (Delmas, Avril). The offense also is pretty good with the exception of the o-line. You guys are just so much better then last year, and last year you even should have won some games. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, I don’t think there should or will be any speculation that you guys will go 0-16 again.
Until they win
It will probably be mentioned how long the losing streak is.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
Thankfully we beat KC at the end of 2007
Otherwise we would be on a 24-game losing streak. Yuck
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
I really hope they don't do one of those clever "this date in time" bits
like, "The last time the Detroit Lions won a game:
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was over 13,300
Brett Favre was a Green Bay Packer
George Bush was in the Oval Office
Hilary Clinton was the likely Democratic nominee for 2008
“Twitter” had not yet entered the American vernacular
Showing in theaters: I Am Legend, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Golden Compass
"
mannnnnn
yd you do that now i feel bad

Lions are better than...
an 0-16 team this year. How much better? Not sure. That will play itself out this year. I know I probably said this a few times last year, but no way they go 0-16. Not a chance. 2-3 wins? Possible… but 0 wins… won’t happen. That is one of the very few things about this season I would guarantee.
Agreed
I know 0-16 won’t happen again. I’m just curious about how the media will treat the situation if we’re 0-6 at the break.
Depends
If there aren’t any other major stories to draw their interest, the media will grab at whatever story they can. And you can’t really blame them. They need stories, its their job. I think a lot will depend on how bad they look if they go 0-6. If they look horrible (which I doubt) the sure would make the story a lot more realistic. With every loss they’ll be setting a new record, so lets hope they get that first win out of the way and get this monkey off their back.
Losing streaks are mentioned in passing...
If this were to happen (and it wont!), the media will mention it now and then. It will only become a huge story if they lose quite a few in a row, and then finally win – especially if the Lions beat a really good team.
I dont think this is anything to worry about, because win or lose, we will be more aggressive, tough, competitive, and respected. That alone will kill any story…
giggy
first off hello, Second off how is a playoff team going to start off the season 0-6? I know that I am the constant pesimist but this team could and should be contenders reguardless of what my fellow die-hards want to beleave. Why is Minn so special? New center, 2 or 3 new players on their O-line and still no QB on the roster. Chicago still has D but until Cutler actually shows something he is still a (?), no true #1 or 2 rec on there team either, best wr on the team is still learning how to play the position. Now the Pack on the other hand should be tough as heck this year.Rodgers has a year with Jennings,I beleave the run game is going to surprise alot of people Grant came on pretty strong at the end of the yer, Thier D was bad against the run and they addresased that in the draft with Raji, and Mathews Jr. That should help with the run I would think. And what is the NFC west? The sea-hawks and the Fitzgerald? The AFC north lost alot of talent also especially Baltmore. No my friends we definitley have a darkhorse shot at this we really do.
It will be talked about until we win
I’m hoping we will have a win before the bye week. Heck, I’m hoping we will win in week 1. But, if we do go 0-6, then those stories will be coming thick and fast. Also, vanman had a good point as well. If we look atrocious, then the talk will be more abundent. If we are constantly competitive and are only losing by a few points each time, then I think the talk might not be so pronounced.
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
I'm with you there Drew
I think we will lose a close game week 1….and I mean close. We will win against the Vikings in week 2.
And I, hopefully...
will be there at the game. Going to try to get individual game tickets when they go on sale. I’m taking my 4 yr old son to his first game… cannot wait! It’s kind of a rite of passage for both of us. And then to get a win to snap a long losing streak as my son’s first game… how amazing would that be? Hopefully, just as he becomes a fan, the Lions will become contenders and he will not have to endure what I’ve had to.
Nah
To me, following a team through the dreary years, and then seeing them transition into dominance makes it that much more special. After watching the Teal Era for the Pistons and seeing them turn into the “Goin’ To Work” Pistons that won it all in ’04, I was near tears. Very manly, tough-looking tears. But tears nontheless. :)
We didn't lose the games, we just ran out of time -- Bobby Layne
trust me Drews...
Your son will never forget the experience. I was four when I went to my first game. I wll never forget it. And on that day I was blessed to be a life long Lions fans. Hooray !!! ( just alittle under tone of sarcasm)
I see 4 wins to start, then see how things are going......
Here’s how I see the season going:
Probable Wins – Washington, Rams, Browns, Cardinals
If the pieces come together, add these wins – Minn, @ Seattle, @ Cinci, @ SF
If things go great, the playoffs are a possibility if you add both home wins against Chicago and GB.
Bottom line for me is somewhere between 4 and 10 wins. I know, it’s weak.
How on earth can you see the Cardinals game as a probable win?
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
Injuries happen...
…anything’s possible, Sean. We had a decent shot at beating Indy last year later in the season. I would’ve never expected us to do that.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
cards are overrated....
they won 9 games last year and people are forgetting that they were average most of last year. they got hot, found a running game and got a lot of turnovers in the playoffs. The last five years they have 6, 5, 5, 8 & 9 wins. They’re not killing it. They lost the superbowl last year so based on recent history they are not going to make the playoffs this year. I think they’ll be lucky to win 8 games and will not make the playoffs.

Even so
I don’t think you can put that game in the probable wins category. Same with the Redskins. We don’t exactly play well against that franchise.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
ok, then what is you're prediction
if those two drop off the list that leaves 2 probable wins for the lions. who do you think they are going to beat?
by kingdaddylions on Aug 6, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions
I have them going 6-10
I just don’t think you can call Washington and Arizona probable wins.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
I said it is possible that they could go 9-7
But realistically that would mean that they would have to win two games on the west coast (Seattle and San Francisco). We all know that it is very difficult for the Lions to fly out and win on the west coast, but I would say those are both POSSIBLE wins. I also see it as possible that we win a game against each of our division rivals (Chicago, Green Bay, and Minnesota). I think they can also win against the Rams, Browns, and Bengals. We always have a very bad time against Washington when we are playing at RFK….in fact we have never won a game in RFK. However, we are playing them at home this year, so again I see it as POSSIBLE that we could beat them. That would make us 9-7 if we won all of those games.
Realistically, we probably have our best chances against Minnesota, Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Washington….that would be 6 wins. SO, I agree with Sean that 6-10 is a realistic (not too optimistic or pessimistic) prediction. That said, anything is POSSIBLE. Probable and possible are two very different things. I definitely agree with Sean that it is not PROBABLE that we will beat Arizona or Pittsburgh. POSSIBLE yes….PROBABLE no.
who are the 6
if you dont have washington and arizona on the list, who is….please, be specific…..

You are so lucky I wasn't home
When this thread was going on. Why not the skins? Other than Portis what do they have? Cambell looked great at times last year, and then looked like a poop-warner league guy the next. And the cards I beleave we get at home right? Did you see the cards at anytime last year look good on the road? Other than the Superbowl that is. You guys know I am the optimistic one but we should be in those games, pending key injuries ofcourse. I know I’m on the Kool-aid. I’ll assume we have all been reading how awsome ou O-line has looked out of the gate. Thats a big reason for concern in my eyes, do you think it’s just cause they are learning a new scheme or do they just stink? I’m hoping it’s a learning curve issue, and our D-fence is going to be all that.
Right now I have the Lions...
Winning these games:
vs. Minnesota
vs. St. Louis
vs. Cleveland
at Cincinnati
at San Francisco
vs. Chicago
I still probably wouldn’t characterize any games on the Lions schedule outside of St. Louis as a probable win. You can certainly list probable losses, but right now I see very few games the Lions will likely win. Like KDawg said, there are games where it’s possible the Lions will win, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they probably will.

thanks
i like those 6….i’ll take those plus my wash and AZ prediction and they’ll be 8-8…..
i’ll still stick with probable, it sounds more definitive than possible. anything is possible, i was trying not to waiver too much…

Minnesota Week 2
ought to be our first win. They could easily let it get away, but I think we can do it. We should have beaten them both times last year.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!
0-6 to start
We will definitely beat the GD Bears in Chicago in wk 4. I will be there holding a sign that says “Cutler is a Wussy” . 9-7 boys look at the schedule again
