A stop
And at the least a field goal, and I don’t need anything else for Christmas
We didn't lose the games, we just ran out of time -- Bobby Layne
You only have 4 guys playing right now though.....
I think I have 6 playing…..
Reggie Wayne has helped me a lot too, and Matt Ryan is having a good game.
To be honest
If you told me last week that the score by the 4th quarter was 38-27, I wouldn’t be too disappointed. Better than 45-7.

If the Lions make a comeback
It’ll be over 2000
We didn't lose the games, we just ran out of time -- Bobby Layne
Not to make it a competition
But Canal Street Chronicles only has 600 :P

i'm new to Fantasy Football
whats a respectable score for your first week total? i’m playing on yahoo
depends on your scoring
in general if you break 100 you’re ok
Kinda depends on format
But 110+ is a good thing

Bell with another big run
Down to the Lions’ 31. Pathetic defense again.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
I was hoping we'd keep Bell under 100 yards
He just passed it
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
I don't see our defense
capable of stopping the Saints offense 2 straight times
Last year I won a Yahoo Survivor league by picking the Lions' opponent every week....
I really don’t want to have to do that again. The first 6 games look rough, but I’m expecting us to go 4-6 the last 10 games.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
how many people are watching on tv and how many on internet streams? cuz i'm a play or so behind on the updates
meh
This is so awesome... it's like i'm watching the daily shows version of the draft..

haha
I love him coming out of college. The reason I’m a half Saints fan

Bell breaks it outside
And they’re going to call the Lions for a late hit. BS call IMO.

BS call? Pretty easy call IMO

Take that back
Dumb penalty. Didn’t see Sims come over the first time.

It's hard to tell if Brees is this good or if our pass D is that bad

Bit of both I think

Pass was knocked into the air
But nobody could get to it to make the pick. Damn that is a perfect chance for an INT.
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
Bah
Someone needs to pick that. Manuel looks hurt, I’;m kinda happy about that
We didn't lose the games, we just ran out of time -- Bobby Layne
Brees
Man, this reminds me of Tecmo Super Bowl. Easy offense the first 5 or so weeks. Then it gets harder.
To hell with moral victories—but at least this game has been interesting. Don’t remember the return game mattering since EDDIE.
SNOIL!!! (lions flags running out and seated on the backwards side of the field).
Stafford’s first TD rushing…lolz
Ko plays in the NFL....he'll tell you himself....he's worth millions!
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
The 4 offensive plays in techmo remind of Jim Colletto's playbook

And to think Peyton had that in one half a few Thanksgivings ago.

i'm going to take a break
hopefully my bad mojo helps the lions. I didnt watch the FSU-Jacksonville St. game until 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter and the Noles won. I haaaaaaaaate FSU.
Someone is going to get called out by the Saints fan that said Brees would throw for 6
Pride of Detroit, SB Nation's Lions Blog
I said when was the last time Brees threw for 6 TDs.....
in the same comment that I said they will not score on the ground…..
I was not overly cocky…..just figured it was unlikely that he would throw 6 TD passes….and I was wrong.
Don't forget this one KDawg
My prediction:
Lions – 24
Saints – 27
It will come down to a late FG. I think it could easily go the other way too…..if we control the time of possession.
:P
We didn't lose the games, we just ran out of time -- Bobby Layne
Agreed
We had a bunch of chances that weren’t capatilized on, as well as defensvie lapses. Schwartz will no doubt have alot of fun with this game film

1st-game jitters and wake-up call for Stafford
Welcome to the NFL….this is what the regular season is like. Expected this sort of thing. More interested in if he improves next week, or regresses.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
Yeah
The Vikes game is the big one

Stafford faked the handoff and ran the bootleg
Johnson juggled it but made the catch despite having two guys on him.

We may not be a playoff team this year
but I definitely see improvement

Staff hits Figurs on the slant
And NO was flagged for a helmet to helmet hit I’m guessing.

With all of these checkdowns
I think maybe Joey H shivved Staff in the parking lot and Staff’s place. Someone check and make sure that’s not a mask.
Stafford is picked off by Sharper
He had all day to throw and just made another bad pass.

Staff with another pick
Sharper is eating him alive

would just risk injuries

I’m gonna go start to write the recap.

maybe i was wrong.
perhaps Stafford should not be starting.
Too late now.
No turning back without undermining him. Ah well.
No no......
No backing out on your boy now…..he’s the man for the whole year remember? We have to stick with him now.
And we're gonna have to
Don’t want to have the rest of the team second guessing him.
Exactly
I’ll be worried if he does it three times in a row.

Mike Bell is killing us, another first down run

why do our guys keep sprinting at brees like they're gonna run play action?

I'm glad we made it competitive... at times
This is a performance to build off of and we probably won’t face a better offense this year
by WestsideLionsFan on Sep 13, 2009 4:28 PM EDT reply actions
Also, Staff will only gain experience and poise from here
by WestsideLionsFan on Sep 13, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions
we'll see about that.
it depends on how strong he is and how he stands up to a performance like this and the reception he gets in detroit
And he looked more poised
Until we started asking him to win the game for us. Too much for a kid making his first start.
They may be true
If we can give him some semblance of blocking next week. Curious to see what the Williams Wall will look like against our line if they play the same way next week.
Good point
There is some positives to move forward with.

Quick question
Didn’t Foote and Peterson say that the D played vanilla during the pre-season and that there was more to it?
Ummmm…. Was there?
Run to Bell, stopped behind the line. 3rd and goal.

Stafford...27.4 QB Rating
From my point of view…he’s lost confidence as the game wore on…being down in a big hole doesn’t help.
Game Over
Final Score Saints :45 Lions 27

Get used to it folks
Part of the growing pains of a team that’s had 60% personnel turnover.
Gotta give the kid time to learn, the only way you learn is by making mistakes and correcting him.
BTW officiating was AWFUL
True

That game would have been close
And if we didn’t win, it would have looked a lot more respectable if we had capitalized on turnovers.
Nah
I think he’s thinking something like “Don’t they realize the preseason is over?”
We didn't lose the games, we just ran out of time -- Bobby Layne
Thoughts
> Little to no Pettigrew, he would’ve helped out Staff alot because he’s a big target. Kind of like a security blanket.
> The Secondary, wow just wow. Buchanon can’t come back quick enough
> Calvin didn’t get the ball enough. They tried to throw to him, but most didn’t connect. That needs to change. On a team with little talent, you need to take advantage your advantages.
> Kevin Smith didn’t have the game we needed him to have.
> Refs are garbage, all of them
> Yes, Drew Brees really is that good
> Our Run defense wasn’t all that terrible at first, then we let Mike Bell look like Steven Jackson
> There’s gonna be alot of growing pains with Staff
> Damn losing really makes you hungry.

I was trying to distribute the Kool-Aid freely before the game this week.....
I really believed that the Lions could win this game…..sorry if my optimism got anyone else’s hopes up….what a let down…..
I gotta say, it did seem strange
But I didn’t have high hopes for the game, I always thought we would lose, it just wasn’t a good matchup. However, I think we did a solid job, we were competitive and we showed that we could score points and cause turnovers.
