File this under the least surprising news of the day: Charles Rogers has been arrested again, this time for drunken driving and driving without a license in Novi.

Police said officers found 28-year-old Rogers in his 2003 Mercedes at about 2 p.m. facing southbound on Meadowbrook Road at Eight Mile Road.

Police said fire officials had to climb into Rogers' car through the sunroof to make sure he was OK.

Rogers failed sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.

Rogers was arraigned Thursday morning and jailed with a $50,000 bond.

You know how Rogers said on Outside the Lines somewhat recently that he had changed and was ready to make a comeback?  Well, I think it's pretty obvious that nothing has changed and he will never play in the NFL again.  Even before this latest incident no teams were too interested in him, and the only rumor of him making a comeback was to the CFL, which didn't pan out.  I think all NFL teams will forget the name Charles Rogers pretty quickly now that he has been arrested again.

Oh, and I don't think the Lions will be seeing any money from him anytime soon.

who was it that was saying a couple weeks ago

that he deserved another shot? really?!? did anyone really think he had changed his ways? still thinks he is better than the law…hilarious!!

also, can’t recall who it was either…horrible memory that way…but i recall one of the lions defensive players making a comment along the lines of “i wish millen had asked me about him…sure he put up numbers, but anyone in the game today could tell you he was a bust waiting to happen”

He was also parked?

So how did he get a DUI? Maybe he got a DUP Driving Under Parking?

You can be sitting in a car

with no keys in the ignition…..and if you are not in your driveway or on private property the police can charge you with drunk driving if you are over the legal limit. Does not matter if you are actually driving or if you were just taking a nap or not. The law assumes that you MUST have driven at some point to have gotten where you are. This is no joke either….a guy I once knew backed his car out of the driveway (drunk) and decided against going anywhere, so he parked the car by the curb right in front of his house. He removed the keys from the ignition, threw them on the floor, and passed out in the driver’s seat (similar to Rogers by the sounds of it). The 5-0 came along and saw him sleeping there, and of course they just have to check it out. Since he was over the legal limit, behind the wheel of the vehicle (not that it matters, he could have been in the back seat and they would have still taken him to jail) on public property, he was arrested, charged, and convicted of DUI.

Yeah.

I live in Panama City Beach. whenever you ass out, if you’re in your car and you are drunk, make sure you throw your keys outside of your car. Or else they can give you a DUI.

that’s why it’s OUI and not DUI now.

When the LEGAL side-effects of a substance, cause more harm to the person, than the side effect of the substance its self, we have an injustice.

Yeah

DUI is the all encompassing term meaning “Driving Under the Influence”…..It is actually now OWI or OWVI that you get charged with (Operating While Intoxicated or Operating While Visibly Impaired). Any blood alcohol content above 0.08 is considered intoxicated, as determined by breathalizer, blood, or urine test. OWVI is a charge you get when the police expect that you are driving under the influence of drugs (any schedule 1 drug, cocaine, or barbiturates….even a trace amount as detected by blood, urine, or breath) or alcohol (blood alcohol doesn’t have to be above 0.08), and your inability to operate a motor vehicle was visible.

I can remember when it was OUIL, DUI, DWI, and OUID……and I think there has been even more than these in the past. I imagine they simplified it to either OWI or OWVI to decrease confusion.

No money? Really? How much is a 2003 Mercedes worth?

Probably more than my 2000 Dodge Caravan with 300K kilometers.

Good Grief

Wow am I retarded. I wouldn’t say I thought this was a changed man, but I honestly believed he was going to at least make a decent run at an attempted comeback, and that the NFL should allow him to try. Rogers officially just doesn’t get it. I mean…this guy is freakin clueless! I hate to say this, because I’m probably about as liberal as they come when it comes to criminal punishment, but this man needs to be locked up. And not a short “scare the bad out of you” type of locked up, but (to steal a line from Office Space) “Federal Raped in the @$$ Locked Up”. Not only does he not understand the rules, but I think he may be one of these people who just doesn’t even understand the concept of rules and certainly doesn’t believe they adhere to him. It is only a matter of time before his stupidity gets someone hurt or killed.

How about an Aaron Gibson jersey too?

Just be careful you don’t snuff out the fire when you drop that one on.

A fitting end to the Charles Rogers story

I shall now be striking him from my mind.

Howard was a Super Bowl MVP

He wasn’t great over his entire career, but I don’t think you can call him a bust.

I would considering.....

…..he was alos a top 10 pick

by BennieBladesFan on Sep 18, 2009 9:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You would probably consider most top ten draft picks busts then.

For the Lions anyone except Barry, Billy, and Lomas would probably be considered a bust.

I would add Calvin to that list but lets give him a couple more years.

rogers

i think it’s a sad turn of events for this young man. i remember watching him play at michigan state, and thinking “i hope the lions can get him.” and they did. and not much changed for the lions.

as someone that has had to bury many family members, i really hope he gets it before it’s too late. i dont want to turn on the television and hear that he as passed away, or has killed someone in a drunken accident.

Sad

Just saw a piece on him on ESPN, and I found myself feeling sorry for the guy. I know you guys probably hate him but imagine having to sit out 2 years because of continuously breaking your collarbone. It would suck haha!

I really hope he can pull his life together. The guy was outstanding when he did play, and there is really no denying that. He had amazing speed. Hopefully he can turn things around.

Exactly.....

….im all about 2nd chances myself…….Ray Lewis killed a guy at the super bowl that one year and he never ecen got susupended……matt Jones is playing again…..i dont know……I think he had the talent and If he wouldnt have broken his collarbone none of this would have ever happened.
