NEW PLAYING POLICY FOR THE LIONS!

It is obvious from the Lions performance to date and the insightful feedback from POD posters and the Detroit media that the Lions coaching staff is losing all their credibilty by continuing to field players who make mistakes. This is totally unacceptable as these guys are paid great money to perform at a high level. Since this is a rebuilding year anyway I have a proposal for a new policy that Schwartz, Cunningham, and Linehan need to implement to ensure that the right players are playing.

Proposal: Make a mistake on the field and find a seat on the bench!

QBs, throw an INT, fumble, misread the defence, even miss badly on a throw, and grab some pine.

RBs, fumble, slip, dance around for a loss, drop a pass, miss a block, forget the play call, take a seat.

WRs drop a pass, run the wrong route, miss a block, get a penalty, or loaf, you're outta there.

OLs miss an assignment, get a penalty, not open a big enough hole, have a gatorade.

Defenders miss a tackle, not cover your man, don't recover a fumble, drop that INT, take a breather.

This plan has the beauty of keeping our players all fresh and involved in the game. The coaches will be able to evaluate their progress easily and the players will have a chance to reflect on their mistakes immediately and apply the proper corrections the next time they take the field. It will confuse our opponents as we may have multiple subs on many plays. It will also allow Coach Schwartz to live up to his decree that only guys who deserve to play will play.

wow, negative yards for an rb...

there goes the plan of bringing barry out of retirement

by londonlion on Sep 25, 2009 9:58 AM EDT reply actions

maybe we give them three tries

anybody can lose yards on a single run. If they don’t average at least 4 ypc on three runs, then we go ahead and terminate their contract and bring somebody else in.

Nice.

It’s true that people have zero patience. Lions fans have honestly earned that right, but it isn’t fair to the new players giving their best each week to try and turn it around. I am behind them 100%, as usual.

GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!

Oh crap!

At least when it spills over here it was intentional, instead of just hijacking an otherwise good post. I voted YES by the way, since there was no other option.

Also, in the interest of being sarcastic, I would like to take this policy a step further…instead of benching the players they should just march them out blindfolded to the 50 at halftime and have some sort of gladiator battle with real Lions. It will be entertaining, and best of all when a player is fighting for his life at least you know there will be maximum effort.

sounds like something

But I’m not exactly sure what that is.It coul be sarcasm, but it also could be a faithful fan loosing his faith after only 2 weeks. I lost my faith for this year after they were going to start Staff at the beginning of the season. I said it when I heard it and I’ll say it again, we should of been starting Culpepper to start the year off.But then again we should of drafted 1 of many O-linemen insted of a QB this year anyways. But all linemen do is help you win games not sell jerseys and seats. Oh wait If we are winning because our QB and RB can run and throw, then the seats sell themselves. WCF needs to be replaced more than Al Davis.

Wow....Northleft = Hitler

That is some tough stuff. I am glad you’re not my boss. Of course, I really don’t know who you are so you could be my boss.

Great post. This is awesome. Field a team of 53 that are all going to play and you better play well and play hard or you are coming out!!

Heil!!

By Mushies standards......

we will need a new team each week. But I like the entertainment value.

Sarcasm abounds

This is probably your strangest post North.

Nate hit the nail on the head HE

This post was my own form of venting since I have decided to no longer feed the debate that never ends.
It turned out better than I thought thanks to the hilarious take by Mushy and n4ry4. I liked it when I got a good laugh from this site. Few and far between lately.

And thanks HE. I consider that a compliment.

I think a win would help stem a lot of the arguments which seem to have sprung up around here of late

I’ve tried pretty hard not to get involved in most of them. They all seem pretty futile to me.

Hey, Maybe Coach Schwartz does read this stuff....
Also, Schwartz made the decision this week to bench cornerback Phillip Buchanon and go with free agent Will James. It was a gutsy move because it could’ve backfired on him and left some veterans a little miffed. Schwartz said from the beginning that no starting positions are guaranteed and that every spot has to be earned every week. And then he backed it up.
