Monday Notes: No Word on Kevin Smith's Injury Just Yet
- I forgot to mention this earlier, but Pride of Detroit is going to be featured on ESPN2's Sports Nation at 5 p.m. ET today, as it is SN's "Site of the Day."
- In case you haven't already, if you were in the blackout zone you can watch the Lions' win over the Redskins on NFL.com until the end of Wednesday (it won't be available during Monday Night Football). The video is in HD and you can go to any point in the game, so it is a pretty cool service. I'd much rather watch the game live on TV, but this is better than nothing.
- Kevin Smith was scheduled to undergo an MRI today to find out how injured his right shoulder is. He left the game with a right shoulder injury in the third quarter, and right now there is no concrete report on the severity of it. Some think he will be back on Sunday and others think it'll be a couple weeks or more. I guess we'll just have to wait to find out.
- Bryant Johnson has established himself as the Lions' No. 2 receiver.
- The announced attendance for yesterday's game was 40,896, the smallest crowd for a Lions game since the 80s.
- Tom Lewand is right in saying that winning is the best way to sell more tickets.
- Here's an interesting stat: The Lions have won more of their last 28 games than the Chiefs have in that time.
- One local restaurant is going to give away free pizza, as they promised that would happen after the Lions won a game.

Pray for Kevin. He's the wheels to our motion
I love this kid. he’s not physically superior or flashy, but he just does the little things as good as anyone in the league. He carries himself as good as any in the NFL. He is my favorite Lion.

those poor pooor chiefs
aside from the one miracle season, the browns can’t be far off that mark either…and then there is the rams…and the raiders…really when you dive into the stats…and in this case actually the w’s & l’s (although so hard to believe after last year) the lions really have not been the worst team in the league. there are much better stats than one might assume.

Attendance
There will be more people there for sure at the next home game. I have never been more excited about a win! Proud to where the colors on campus today, where it seemed there were more Lions shirts than I have ever seen.

I wore my jersey while shopping yesterday
Although no-one really cared since most people where I live don’t know much about American Football.

interesting
Reminds me of how lots of people I met in Arizona didn’t know the difference between Michigan and Michigan State……but then, a lot of people here in Michigan don’t know the difference between Arizona and Arizona State. Big rivalries at home, but unknown far away.
Years ago I watched Australian Rules Football on ESPN one summer. Seemed like the whole game boiled down to…….take 3 steps and punt. Couldn’t name a team now if my life depended on it.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

It was like having 2 teams of punters playing each other
Imagine 22 Nick Harris’s running around out there……pretty funny when you think of it that way.
(I can only imagine what they think of us)

Most Aussies think NFL
Is too slow and fully of guys who are to scared to hit eachother which is why they wear pads. Ignorance can be funny sometimes.
Also, I don’t watch Aussie Rules (or AFL as it is called over here) since I’m from Rugby League territory. And taking 3 steps and punting is not to far off the truth. Just think of it as Soccer but with punting and tackling.

Rugby is a violent, violent sport....
And nobody can say that those guys are sissies…..if you know the rules, the game is fun to watch.

I think it's like that for American Football
I used to cop a lot of flak from my family for watching the NFL. They say “why would you wanna watch a game that’s 60 minutes playing and 2 hours standing around” or they’d complain about the pads and helmets, calling them cowards.
Now, 6 years later my brother is a big Giants fan and my Mum is a Colts fan. A lot of sport fandom is experiencing it at play and learning how it works.

its amazing
the more pads you put on, the more risks you take. those guys know how to hit, how to break tackles…i’d take pretty much any one of the all blacks on my team.
rugby is a brutes game played by gentlemen. they know how to hit, how to get up, but how to shake hands & go for a beer after.
