It is official.....Eric Berry has declared eligible for the NFL draft

Well guys, it looks like our first round draft fate is pretty much sealed......unless of course we trade up or down (I have my serious doubts that this will happen). If the Rams decide to take Ndamukong Suh with the first pick of the 2010 NFL draft, I would bet my last dollar on 1,000,000 to 1 odds that we will draft Eric Berry with the second pick of the draft.

I am not really too sure that I like this idea, but as far as I can see it looks to be the most likely scenario in my opinion. With the coaching staff and front office thinking that Backus is one of the top 10 left tackles in the league, I find it more and more difficult to believe that we would select Russell Okung, or any other LT for that matter, with the 2nd overall pick in the draft. I do not see a DE or another DT (outside of Suh) whose value would warrant being picked #2 behind Suh at #1, if in fact that scenario were to play out. We obviously will not draft a QB, and there are other obvious positions (TE, FB, G, C, WR) that are not only unlikely to be considered with the second pick, but would seem immensely insane if in fact they were considered with the 2nd overall pick. That leaves safety and cornerback as the only seemingly intelligent positions to consider.

As such, there are only 2 players (outside of Suh) who play at those positions that I see as even worthy of consideration at the 2nd pick position (keeping in mind the media attention they garner, and not considering what I actually think). Those players are Eric Berry and Joe Haden. Personally, if we were looking at safety (with Suh being gone), I would also add Taylor Mays to the list of players to consider (for reasons I have already stated elsewhere). However, being that Eric Berry is touted as the best safety prospect to enter the draft since Ed Reed, and being that Joe Haden has not been hyped to be as good as Berry at his position, I believe that the Lions would select Eric Berry with the 2nd overall pick of the draft if Ndamukong Suh is taken with the #1 pick.
