Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

One last freebie for Detroit before the draft

http://blog.mlive.com/highlightreel/2010/01/detroit_lions_sign_jonathan_he.html

The Detroit Lions waiver moves have been impressive for possible depth in 2010.

Look at this move.  A fast CB that played in the CFL and may return kicks?  It could be a hidden gem.  The Lions have absolutely nothing to lose on this pickup.  He ran a 4.53 second 40 at the 2008 NFL draft combine.  He 24 years old with potential.  A 6th rounder for free?

I know the NFL is nothing like the CFL but why not?  Does anyone know who was cut to pick him up?  Does anyone know how this could effect Witherspoon (he basically does the same thing)... Note (him and Witherspoon) both are multiposition players CB/KR/PR... a three for one deal for depth.

I would think that's what Schwartz wants.  Value and depth!   GO LIONS!

(To heck with the playoffs - joking) I'm looking forward to the off season moves of the Lions and the NFC North.   The Bears might be able to be caught  for 2010.  What do you think?!

I like the pick up, but don't think it's a major find

4.53 is pretty slow these day’s, 230lb RB run faster than that now.

Some other NFL team (I forgot which one) has a kick returner from the CFL and he’s pretty good. Any help in the return game is an advantage. Northcutt and Williams were awful this year returning kicks and punts. Aaron Brown stunk too (at least returning kicks)

A 4.1? Sorry, never been done...not electronically anyway

Chris Johnson was 4.24.

Deion Sanders is rumored to have run a 4.17 at the combine, but it was not electronically timed.

Suh will run around a 5.0-.1.

Putting the pencil to Usain Bolts projected 40 yard dash time....

According to IAAF Analysis Split Times, Usain Bolt ran his FIRST 40m in 4.65 seconds. Subtracting his reaction time which was .165 seconds, he ran the 40m in 4.485 seconds. 40 yards is a totally different measurement than 40 meters. 40 yards is equal to approximately 36.576m

By simple ratio:
(40m/4.485)=(36.576m/X)
X=( 36.576 / (40/4.485) )
Usain Bolt’s 40 yard dash would be:
A blazing 4.100 seconds!!!!!

40 times are like fish stories…they get better with age. But now you have the actual data from the worlds fastest sprinter, so when people start talking about running a 4.1-4.2 at the combine you can take it with a grain of salt and put it in perspective.

Excellent ratio analysis

I was going to say that not even Usain Bolt runs a 4.1 40, but it turns out that he DOES!?!? Holy Mike Schmidt!! I wonder if he could actually chase down a deer??

A 3.2 second 40 yard dash is not humanly possible (at least nobody has ever recorded someone running that fast). 40 yards = 120 feet. That would be 37.5 feet per second. 37.5 (feet per second) = 25.5681818 miles per hour. Usain Bolt is currently the fastest known man in the world,as he set both the World and Olympic records in the 100 meter dash in the 2008 Beijing Olympics (9.69 seconds). Average speed = distance/time. Dividing the distance by the time gives an average speed of 10.3 meters/second. Multiplying this speed by 3,600 seconds in an hour, and dividing that result by 1,609 meters in a mile, results in an average speed of 23.1 miles per hour.

Bolt broke that record

On August 16, 2009, Usain Bolt ran the 100 meter dash in 9.58 seconds. His average speed was 10.44 meters/second or 23.36 miles/hour….still not even close to 3.2 seconds in the 40 yard dash….lol.

actually

a cb from the cfl isn’t a bad thing…much different of a game yes…but, in the cfl there is not only more field to cover & be responsible for, but the league is at least a 60-40 pass-run league as opposed to the more balanced nfl, meaning more snaps played as a coverage player. mind you the talent he was covering will not be the same, but he will have had to cover more often & be responsible for more field. not sure where he played in the cfl…but if there is talent/potential, there are several positions i’d take from the cfl especially on defense.

its more than 60-40

almost 75-25 at times. its three down football, so you basically have 2 downs to pick up 10 yards, plus the fields are 110 yards long (not sure how wide, but they are wider than NFL fields) so ya there is more ground to cover.

The beginning of the end of the misery

field is 10yds longer & i believe 20yds wider too

and it is very fast paced…wr’s get a running start so db reactions must be quick…lots of blitzing up the middle by lbs so dbs are often on an island too

heck I'm more

GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.

JP as long as were adding depth from the cfl

I we should give jarett Payton a tryout he not a starter but he could add some great depth to the running back posistion I am just saying give him a tryout
