If You Are Blaming Schwartz...
...for the start to the 2010 season, go get a dose or two of reality. We have to be more patient than this...we're acting like the annoying Bears fans that I constantly have to listen to all the time living close to Chicago.
Our team, not but two years ago, was only beginning the lowest of low seasons. To expect that this team would be already dominate is just irrational. Jim Schwartz walked into a complete and utter crapfest when he took the job of head coach of the Detroit Lions about a year and a half ago. We all know this...so why are people writing about his job security. IF YOU WANT CONSISTENCY AND SUCCESS, YOU HAVE TO LET IT BUILD. You cannot be firing and hiring coaches, revamping all personnel every other year, and changing over your entire defense or offense every other year. You have to let things build and gel.
This seems like common sense to me. But the predictable impatience that is being shown by some Lions fans is starting to eat at me. If you are one of these people, you are not allowing for things to just happen. As much as you want to see a successful Lions team, you have to take a step back and let things happen.
In 2010, thus far, we've played three very good teams...two of which we played notable games against and one we didn't. What is wrong with that? We all know our record SHOULD be 1-2 at the moment...possibly 2-1 or 3-0 with Stafford under center. This team is SCORES better than the ones I've seen in Detroit over the past decade. But we still have the problems that we've been discussing here for weeks and months. Our secondary needs work. Our pass defense still needs improvement. Next offseason, you can bet that will be addressed...along with the linebackers. We're pressuring the QBs more....we have a notable offense when everyone is healthy...and Schwartz seems to get the big picture of what needs to happen in Detroit for success to follow.
Please, for the love of God, stop being so impatient and impulsive with your criticisms. Yes, Schwartz has made mistakes. It's going to happen. But let's be reasonable here. Any fans who have REALLY been disappointed by the start of the season set themselves up for heartbreak. I knew going in that this season would be very tough and that our record probably wouldn't speak of the progress we're having. The schedule is as tough as nails....the injuries are piling up predictably, and our defense is still questionable at best. We're better than this. You know what it's going to take to see this team succeed....much more time than people have been willing to give thus far. Accept it and move on. Our time is coming, my fellow Lions fans. It just may not be at the speed you'd like it. But it's coming. And with patience, it will arrive....no doubt. And it will be glorious. Hang in there.
We're going to have a rough one in Lambeau this week. Get ready.
That is all. GO LIONS!!!

Guys, look at the Steelers.
From 1933 to 1972 they had one playoff appearance with zero playoff wins. Then, they got the right Coach, drafted well [to say the least] and built a dynasty.
Whether you want to believe it or not, that can happen here. We are finally collecting the right pieces. Our time is coming.
And not only did they get the right coach in Noll.
But they kept that coaching tree. Cowher was an asst. under Noll. Tomlin was an asst. under Cowher. Three coaches since 1969.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
Its not just the Steelers
The Raiders really sucked before their run started in the 70’s. The Patriots really sucked before Belichick. The Browns still suck. The Rams have sucked twice and moved their franchise. The Oilers sucked for a long time between Bum Phillips and them becoming the Titans and losing to the Rams. Pretty much the entire NFC West has sucked since the 49ers dynasty ended. The Miami Dolphins have had a couple of stints of sucking, after Greise and Before Marino, and then again after Marino and are just now getting respectable again. Dallas sucked before the Aikman, Irving, and Emmit Smith days, and then they sucked again afterwards until Romo. The Jets sucked since Joe Nameth until they got lucky last year. I could go on and on and on about teams sucking. Heck the Saints sucked for 43 years until last year.

Don't forget the Bucs
They suck now kinda but Gruden and Dungy turned that mess around it took time though.

Jeez eSmurf, you really need to check your history books.
The Raiders were an AFL powerhouse all through the mid sixties and on. They went to a Super Bowl in 1967.
The Patriots were in the Super Bowl in 1985 and 1996 prior to Bellichick.
Miami went to a Super Bowl between Griese and Marino and were a contender almost every year with Shula as their coach.
The Seahawk fans might have an issue with you saying that they sucked since the 49ers dynasty ended. They did go to a Super Bowl.
I was talking about winning the superbowl, since that seems to be the standard that Joshsun set in an earlier thread
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
now, where did I set that standard.
I remember suggesting something along this line…
Detroit going to a superbowl is something we all want.
I can assure you that is not the standard I hold this team to.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Probably in that Fire mayhew post, there was a lot of back and forth there
it is no big deal and hey the ultimate goal is to win a super bowl, mainly I was just trying to point out that a lot of teams rebuild, and yeah it sucks that we have been bad for a long time, but we did have some successful teams in the 90’s. A good example to point to on a team being bad for a long time is actually the Packers. Until Favre came along they had sucked it up for a couple of decades. I think it will take us about 3 years to become relevant, and about another 2 to actually be a playoff team, anything ahead of that would be a nice surprise for me. Notice I didn’t say expect, its just what I think might happen.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
LoL
Well it means that while I think it may happen there is a lot that can happen in the meantime. Injuries, busts, stupid rules added to the rulebook that cost us a game. So while I try to assess what might be I don’t put any real heavy emotional investment into an expectation. Instead I take things for what they are and express my approval or displeasure at something after it happens.
I do not buy into the no excuses bullshit. That is a mentality that is driven into people who are followers not thinkers. Every action has reactions, everything has consequences and to sit back in hindsight it is very easy to paint whatever picture one wants to.
So rather than placing blame I simply try to understand the hows and whys of things. When I reach a thought or conclusion some might see that as an “excuse” however I just see it for what it is. Something either went right or wrong and therefore we could adjust how we deal with that situation in the future if it is encountered again. However the sheer number of variables in any given situation means that you will never encounter that exact same situation again, only ones of varying degrees of similarity. So while you can analyze the crap out of something to have an idea about what you should do, there never is any guarantee that it will or will not work out.
So it is pretty laughable to me to compare even the Lions from last year to this year. There is so many variables lost in translation that all we can really come up with is a loose kind of logic as to what things were and what things are. It is almost like estimating the cost of a multimillion dollar project. You might be able to be in the ball park on the hundreds of thousands, but once you start to get into the tens of thousands, thousands, and further you get more and more inaccurate. It is almost impossible to estimate down to the penny. To put in the work required for such accuracy only comes with a lot of experience of estimating the same or similar types of projects.
Guys who have educations and training far beyond our years as fans, such as the general managers, and coaches, are far better equipped to make these decisions than we as fans are. I think we all saw what resulted when Mr. Know it all TV analyst that could talk a good game took over the team (Millen).
So to me anything written here has to be taken with a grain of salt, and an understanding that we are all a bunch of rabid fans, not the guys actually calling the shots. No one knows what really is going on in Allen Park at 222 Republic Drive. We just look at things from our personal pool of knowledge and experiences in life and apply it to what we THINK is going on, has gone on, or is going to go on.
I guess what I am saying is that it is pretty damn hard to try and even predict what will happen in any given game let alone the whole season. And it is also very easy to rationalize and skew past events to suit a particular viewpoint. With that perspective I tend to even take myself with a grain of salt, let alone anyone else. Some people seem to take others and even themselves a lot more seriously than I do when it comes to opinions.

Hello Evilsmurf ...my reply to this post reply of yours is....
….i think while your posts are very well respected. It appears that the large diversity in intelligent posters provide for many replys at both ends of the spectrum on issues. Where you tend to be closer to the middle and alot more level headed.
With all of this being said i think the lions history of failure has made many look at the nature of losing as a curse…that it is a pattern developed by players and coaches that represent the lions.
Too me it is very simple….the lions have never had a Quarterback. And this is a very canvousing statement. I mean…the Lions have not had someone at the quarterback position play at a hight level for any extended period of time. This is the defining reason why the lions have had so much failure……….And to me when this problem is addressed regardless of who it is…then the lions will win….i look at the best times in football and they have quarterbacks that when its on the line the make a play….they will their teams to win…..lions have had game managers at best…..and in the NFL today as quarterback driven as it is…..you just can NOT win unless your quarterback is playing at a high level and making plays when you need them the most……top teams in the league tend to have the top quarterbacks in the league….something Detroit hasn’t had.
Thanks for the reply Shankdiddy
I would agree that our success or failure directly relates to the quarterback position. The only QB the Lions have had that could be considered a superstar would be Bobbly Lane. It is therefore no surprise to me that the last time the Lions had a consistently good team was back when he played for us.
The argument could be made for Barry Sanders having a similar effect. Without him the Lions teams he was on would have struggled to finish 3rd or 4th in the division let alone make the playoffs. So while I think the quarterback is the most vital position on the team, I also have seen the effect of legendary players in other positions and think that with enough talent in other places you can still win with an average quarterback.
The blueprint the Lions have been following relates to the most recent super bowl teams. Teams like the Colts and Patriots, which most certainly center around a franchise quarterback. This is why they went out and looked for certain pieces to that equation. All of those teams had certain things in common. They all had defenses that pressured the opposing quarterback and focused on pass defense over run defense. They also all had the QB surrounded with a good tight end, receiver, and a running back that can be a receiving threat.
Basically a talented QB with options to throw to in unconventional places. For the Pats guys like Ben Watson and Kevin Faulk. For the Colts guys like Dallas Clark and Joseph Addai. And even going back to the Rams having Marshal Faulk, and while they did not have the tight ends they had the underneath receivers that functioned in the same way. You see that a bit with Wes Welker and the guys that complimented Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.
One thing that none of those teams had was a left tackle, hence why the Lions have even went after guys like Nate Burlesson and Tony Scheffler before a left tackle. While this system is proven to work I have one glaring criticism of it. It requires some very special quarterbacks to work. Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady are all great at reading defenses and getting the ball out of their hands fast. I am not so sure Matthew Stafford fits that mold. In fact, early signs are that he will hold the ball too long trying to make a play and the lack of support from an offensive line will result in him being injured.
Therefore, with the given personnel we have on our team, I think the Lions need to adjust their plan and look at other teams. Teams who have provided a strong defense and running game to help support a young developing quarterback. This is the way the Rams are going. It is also the way that the Steelers went and Ben Rothlisburger set an NFL rookie record with a QB rating over 90 under. When Ben first came into the league all he was asked to do is manage the game and not lose it for them, much like we are expecting from Shaun Hill. Other teams who have followed this model successfully are the Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
All of those teams also had good tight ends, so I still support the Brandon Pettigrew pick. It is debatable whether a young quarterbacks best friend is a tight end or a good running game, it is clear to me that with a solid tight end core the next move for the Lions is to build a running game.
The encouraging thing is that the Lions realize this too, and moving up to get Jahvid Best was a clear sign of that. Furthermore the small off the radar moves that Mayhew has been making with our offensive line, along with drafting Jason Fox last year prove out that the front office realizes that upgrading the line is the next step on that front.
Also drafting guys like Amari Spievey and big Suh proves that the defense is not being ignored by any means. I think we just simply did not have as much to work with as those other teams coming in the door. The jets already had a good defense and running game when the took Sanchez and Keller. They are struggling to find the number one receiver. The Ravens already had a good defense and tight end when they took Flacco, and have since been working the run game with Ray Rice. Atlanta went the free agency route to get Gonzo and Turner to compliment Ryan and have been working on getting a better defense. The Rams had Stepehn Jackson and are still trying to find answers on the defense and receiving to help Sam Bradford. Of course the Colts and Pats just keep plugging in pieces to keep chugging along.
I guess I left out Miami who also had the run game and even went with a wildcat set to emphasis it to help out Henne. They now have the receiver in Marshall and a good tight end in Fasano and are concentrating on the defensive side too.
The good news for us is that we have more pieces now than needs and while we are not quite there yet, we are certainly farther along than teams like the Rams, Bills, Bucs and Raiders who are still looking for answers.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
It just takes time to do it the right way.
Look at every danasty. It took at least three seasons before most teams got a taste of the playoffs. From Walsh, Levy, Reeevs. To Gibbs and even Vermeil with the Rams. It just takes time to do it the right way.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
I still think the Bears suck
They were given two of their wins by the refs. Well, the second one they were given by Green Bay via the refs flags. I watched the first half of that game and the Bears couldn’t score in a whorehouse with $5k strapped to their dick. Green Bay freaked out in the second half and completely lost it as a team. I blame Green Bays coaches. People here are mad at Schwartz because he isn’t calling plays like he has 10 all pros on offense that can score from anywhere on the field—imagine HAVING 10 allpros and letting them lose their minds like that. After about 10 penalties it was up to those coaches to step in and put their heads on straight and they failed at that.
/end rant/
PS- Bears suck
interesting perspective!
how GB might have blown the game because they lost their composure.
i didn’t see the game, but did GB have a hard time blocking the Bears DL? sometimes holding calls happen when you are getting owned.
Those are the Packers for you
and that is why I would not be completely shocked if the Lions won the next game as I was shocked that they didn’t to end the winless season.
coaches learn and improve just like players
I’ve always said this – we allow young QBs and other young players to make mistakes on the job and learn from them for next time……so that’s the approach I take w/ coaches too. They are going to learn from their mistakes and get better over time….I’d rather see them make those types of mistakes this year, in a year where we’re not going to make the playoffs, then down the road when we’re in the playoff hunt. Hopefully Schwartz & co. can work out the kinks in these early years and be fine tuned and ready to go like our young players will be a couple years down the road.
Again....
Singling out the blame is laughable.
I think alot of the ‘anti-schwartz’ movement is being blown out of proportion… as is being fed more by the anti-anti-schwartz movement.
Think I have it wrong? To the left of the screen, tally them both up. I see WAY more lighter fluid than fire… if you know what I mean.
To clarify...
I wager there is a VERY LITTLE of the fan base actually wants schwartz axed…. but would more like to see the “fruit” developed already. Frustration is hard to deal with…. and the guy at the top has to answer it.
But hey… go ahead and get blue in the face over it… don’t let me stop you.

What I’m getting tired of are these silly threads expressing ones impatience over others who happen to have the nerve to even dare to question Schwartz in any way shape or from. How dare someone even have the nerve to think that Schwartz isn’t the man for the Lionsfor the next 20 years. That everything he’s doing is so correct….Paaalease…The man doesn’t walk on water.
I haven’t seen more then 1 or 2 people calling for Schwartz to be fired. I have seen multiple fans questioning some of his decisions. Now that’s not cool?….lol

I for one do not want him fired, yet
but his decision making and seemingly over cautious game planning have me thinking twice about his tenure.
He needs to finish this season out showing something tangible. Another 2-14 season is completely unacceptable in my opinion. As pathetic as it sounds, considering how low the bar I am setting here, anything less than 4 wins is unacceptable in my opinion. There is a lot of season left. Get it in gear!
Go Lions.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
No way should he be fired. He for sure should get 3 years.
But to not be able to question his moves, well that’s just plain silly.
It’s what sports is all about. Look at all the heat Leyland gets for some of his dumbass in game moves.
I would agree with you CLF
You’re probably right. But it needs to be nipped in the butt when the media feeds into it too.

I have not seen any article where anyone called for Schwartz head
If you can post some, I would appreciate it.

But thats were its stemming from. That whole minority is louder than the majority. Someone read it and blew out of portion ect…Like I said Stemming from.

ahhh
Now I understand, thanks for clarifying.
Impatience is something to be expected with this team. I fully expect Schwartz to be evaluated after this season. He has plenty of time to show he is the coach he needs to be before that evaluation.
To this point and to me personally, I am ambivalent to his coaching. He has done some good thing and he has done some bad things in my mind. To me right now, one a scale between 10 (perfect) to -10 (perfectly horrible) he is a 0.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Thats rational
I can completly understand that. I am a big fan of Jim but even I couldn’t put him at a 10 on that scale maybe a 5 or so based on draft classes ect…Thats just my opinion though.
GET WELL SOON MATT! We need ya man
Opinions are all we really have
because we do not have a winning team we can follow that makes everything else so much easier to deal with.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
you would think after so many years of losing the fans that are left wo-uld be the most patient in the world
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
I think of this as a double edged sword. We do have patience but we, being well trained in losing, also recognize when something is not working the way it should.
We could be over reacting but that would be no different than people thinking Schwartz has this year and next year guaranteed.
Mayhew is no fool. If he and Lewand do not believe Schwartz is the guy to take the talent given and maximize its potential. I fully expect them to move on that feeling.
Another transition would be painful but no less painful than waiting another year when you already have a strong suspicion that things are not working out.
Schwartz has 13 more game to prove to them he is the man for the job.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
you are entirely correct that singling out blame is laughable.
this is not just about the call for axing, but the unfounded criticism he is receiving. it is one thing to hammer a guy for obvious mistakes, but the attacks are based on grey judgment calls with no clearly good/bad decisions.
the only reason the anti-anti-schwartz movement has exploded is because the attacks on Schwartz are so completely batshit insane. some of the Detroit media are throwing him under the bus already too—because of play calling, or kicking a fieldgoal instead of taking a desperation pass at the endzone against a dime/prevent with a 2nd string QB, or not being angry enough about bad calls. seriously—criticized for not showing more anger on the sidelines after getting robbed in Chicago!
it is all just rubbish. i think it is nothing more than desperation to find a story where there is none—so they make one up. then he becomes a scapegoat for fans who don’t understand football but for some reason have to assign blame on Mayhew, or Schwartz, or Ford (or Ford Jr.).
there really is no story, we could be 1-2 or 2-1 right now very easily. who would have expected that, prior to the season starting, and then taking into account the very serious problem with the injuries to this team—a team with little depth.
Rec that
I think its even stupid to have this discussion. we only played 3 game this year. I honestly think with a true number 1 corner and younger better O line we are there. Sure a linebacker wouldn’t hurt but I see those as the only real gaping holes we have.
GET WELL SOON MATT! We need ya man
Nice post, Twon
I think I’ve said enough on the subject to show that I clearly believe that Schwartz hasn’t had a shot at this thing with a decent roster. This year, while the talent is improved, he has still been forced to play without Stafford and has had a lot of key injuries to deal with. I know… I know… all teams deal with injuries. Yeah, but most teams have better depth that this one does. But we’re getting closer to a better, deeper roster.
I understand the frustration, but the fact remains that Detroit will never win if the Schwartz/Mayhew tandem gets fired. They need the full extent of four or five years to turn this thing around. That’s the right thing to do. IMHO, three years is not enough with what this team started with. Granted, we should be winning 7-8 games at least by next year, but I think that realistically speaking, it may take 4 years to finish plugging all the holes and to draft enough solid depth to contend. Again, just keeping it real here.
yes.
agreed. but most teams are SOL when they are out a QB1, RB1 (maybe), RB2, WR2, MLB1, MLB2…
this is the core of the D and O
Really?
Detroit will never win if Schwartz/Mayhew get fired? I don’t want them fired right now but thats a pretty crazy statement to write.
You guys are nucking futz when it comes to these two.
Have a little perspective... please
I’m speaking to the loss of progress that always happens when you change regimes. You bring in a new set of coaches and schemes who want their own players and you end up taking additional steps backwards before you can ultimately move forward. Get it? It’s not that I don’t think another coaching staff couldn’t eventually get things turned around here, but if we change regimes smack dab in the middle of a complete overhaul, we will not win.
You know, you need to open your mind and use a smidge of intelligence before you post. Read the entire comment, think about it… then post a retort.

Regime change is an organization killer. That said, that is what has stagnated this organization for years, W.C.F.’s reluctance to fire incompetence.
Ummm.... delusional, didn't we switch coaches...
three times under Millen? How did that work out? I know that you are probably refering to Millen being here too long and I agree, but I think Ford was trying to keep continuity. I think he believes he has the right two guys and place and will give them all the time they need. That’s why Lions fans need to chill and let this crew get it done.
Anything to excess can be a fault
Constant change and lack of continuity as an organization, or loyalty to a fault. The idea is to set a proper plan of action, a time line and certain goals to be met. Regular evaluations along the way need to happen to assess the validity of the plan and see if any variance is needed.
To bring in a new general manager and coach to rebuild a franchise, lets face ti they were not rebuilding the roster alone, they are rebuilding the whole thing. They are changing how they draft, how they work out, how they eat, sleep, sell tickets, how they have team meetings, it goes on and on and on. They are changing so much more than a lot of people give them credit for. They are changing a losing culture. And that takes a minimum of a few years of work before you will see tangible results in wins and losses. If not even longer.

Be more aggressive and it showed today. It remains to be seen if that is because of being behind or a different philosophy coming into the game but that does not change the fact. They were more aggressive today and it looked pretty damn good.

Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Like i said
look around, i post on a ton of things other than my displeasure. You choose to remember the stuff I am unhappy with. That is your problem, not mine.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
I am wasting my time with you anymore and frankly so are you with me.
You choose to focus on my opinions that you do not agree with and ignore the rest. That is your decision.
If we were all the same, life would be boring.
I respect your opinions. I look forward to talking about our team with you in the future.
This line of conversation has turned into a he said he said pointless babble fest. We are not going to agree. So why continue? unless you really want too?
I am moving on to something more constructive and relative to the team.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Damn man, I tried to let it go gracefully
I will have something to talk about tomorrow, do not worry about that.
Losing sucks and my team is in fact 0-4. There are definite reasons for that and I will probably have a fan post about it tomorrow on my opinions.
I promise, I will give you something to continue your anger with me.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
thats fair enough man i just want you to keep being negative
we need consistency around here just like the lions do
Actually, I do say "our team" more often than not
I make a point of it in fact. I am sure it has slipped my mind on occasion. I am human after all but if you look around, you will see I do say our team very often.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
You read me wrong...I agree, switching coaches is a losing proposition...
For the 32nd time, Schwartz should get at least 3 years.
Perspective has nothing to do with it
Save the passive aggressive bullshit for someone else
I understand the frustration, but the fact remains that Detroit will never win if the Schwartz/Mayhew tandem gets fired.
You said it was a fact and it was a stupid comment to write. You guys are loonies.
Who are "you guys"?
I’m only one person and I’m the one that said the comment above. If you wanna call me a loonie… whatever. But I still contend that if Mayhew and Schwartz get fired, it is not in the best interest of this team’s immediate future. Does that make sense? Do I need to dumb it down any further? You can’t keep up with the level of conversation, so you want to argue semantics.
Next time, I’ll be sure to help keep you involved. I’ll add some colorful pictures and use short sentences with words containing no more than four letters. Hey… I’m just here to be as helpful as I can.
No
I suggest next time you try to live up to the ilk of being a pseudo-internet journalist and get your facts straight.
Getting your panties in a bunch is a fun thing to witness though I must say.
If you only knew that I sit here and laugh at your idiotic comments.
You think I’m behind my screen getting all pissed off or having “my panties in a bunch”… couldn’t be farther from the truth. I get a nice little chuckle every time I see your inane drivel…. so keep it coming! I love to start off my day listening to Rambo McSlaugherhouse get all jiggy wit it. Lol…..
Thats a good name
Rambo McSlaugherhouse
He sounds like a really good MLB, I think we should pick him up.
Still not sure what a "wafflecock" is... Must be a Iowa thing.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
Sorry I missed this fascinating repartee but .....
I’m a Canuck and not big on military stuff. This “wafflecock”…….. is that a Marine thing?
A "wafflecock"
Is an, uh, how do I put it without offending. A guy that gets his penis stepped on regularly.
I’m trying to be less Rambo McSlaughterhouse and I don’t know how to explain it without being a douchebag. Trust me, its tough.
I've been watching closely who's kept the crap going.....
And it hasn’t been you.
The sunshine boys have kept it going pretty good with snide remarks on multiple threads, only to come back to give you a whack.
lmao
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
yeah it is actually
there were not intended to continue the conversation but alas, here we are.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Go back and read this particular thread... see where it started.
Then tell me who intended to continue the B.S….
You cry like a little bitch. Everyone backs off. And you start it back up.
I seriously think your 4 years old.
Wait wait wait...
You cry like a little bitch.
and then…
Drama Queen little bitch girrl….lol
And DREW is the one that’s four years old?
WOW. I didn’t know that there were grown men that actually acted like this. It scares me to think that there are so-called “grown ups” like you walking among us in the streets.
So go ahead and call me a “little bitch girrl”, because that’s what I would expect a child like you to do.
I tried to make peace last week, so did Joshun..
It"s been nothing but positive football for the last few days, then some that just pop up on weekends find some old threads and starts the shit up again….I respected people wanting to enjoy threads, and it went negative again….I am pissed.
o i gotcha its ok for you to wreck it...
but when it wrecks your fun your hiney gets a little tender
There's no need for it now. It's senseless.
Nope I couldn’t less…But the sunshine drama queens will start to throwing tantrums about how the negative is ruining “their” site. In a millions years I don’t want to do that, but at the same time, stop with the shit.
You know what Gyorick, I think the link is getting intertwisted,, I’m not even responding to you.
exactly... anyone that gives you a hard time you get frustrated and fold
Thats cool you can just keep ignoring everyone that doesnt immediately agree with you. there has been things that you have said that I agree with and other stuff that i dont. Thats life, you have probably felt the same about some of the stuff i have said and so be it. Your quicker to pull the trigger on some irrational hate man… like beginning of last week everyone was upset with the vanilla play calling. Your hate was so overbearing that it wore on people… then shit the lions play with the packers the whole game.
Which you swore we werent going to do, we were gonna be embarrassed same old lions, and same old coaches. But since we were in the game its cause of your great mind. Ignore me if you want but i still be here being “SUNSHINE BOY”
So will I......
I swear, you’ve got me wrong.
Your right, I thought it would be a hammering. So I was wrong, was I the only one? Come on now, everyone thought they would get hammered. Big deal, so what.
I’ve been trying hard to pick out positive things all days in ANOTHER loss. So has Joshun, so as not to upset the sunshine girls.
That’s it, I’m dome with this week, but rest assured, if this team plays down to the Rams on Sunday this site is going to blow up.
Gyorick, will you do me this..In your simple mind can you remember this? I’m gone next weekend, until Wednesday.
So you don’t think I’m going negative……Remember this….
The Lions will win Sunday. I’m picking the Lions to win Sunday. Can you remember that?
Lets say 24-17…I’m sure if I’m not correct on the score you’ll hammer me.
thats the spirit my good sir... were not all sunshine all the time sir...
each post you get another jab in, we were the sunshine boys and now were the sunshine girls…
Were all here for one reason WE LOVE THE LIONS…
You say everyone thought the lions were gonna get hammered, which is a true statement, also everyone knew we were gonna have a tough time with the beginning of the schedule this year. when those thoughts come to fruition you were quick to start calling for heads to roll and that there is no improvements with our team and just all around negativity.
It just stunk man we lose Stafford (I know he isnt manning or brady and he hasnt proved anything that whole argument) but he is better than Hill. We lose him and then we lose some close fucking games that most people thought we had no business being in, and you are on here losing your mind and not helping the situation.
Gyrorick. no man, pay extra attention to what I'm saying.
A lot of times I’m at work and can’t type out a War and Peace essay, which may blur exactly what I’m trying to say. I’m not as negative as you think.
There’s progress, no way am I going to deny that….and Schwartz should get 3 years at least he’s got them playing extra hard. Your not going to get more then that out of me.
thats cool man, I dont hate you or wanna hate you,...
i respect everything you write, ive actually been reading some stuff youve been commenting on and agreeing with lots of it, which im by no means saying that your doing good cause i agree, but im saying we agree on more things than you think and thats a good thing, wouldnt you agree
We negative nancy's
Have to stick together. There’s like 3 of us on the site.
Its like Joe vs The Volcano.
Delusional... you are HILARIOUS!!
I mean I honestly got a good roar out of this thread. Thanks for making my morning. I can’t believe how bent out of shape you got over my one little comment. Lol… wow.
Look, dude… you gotta take my little jabs with a tongue-in-cheek perspective. Seriously… you are starting to look foolish. I admit that I poke and prod and jab a little, but it SERIOUSLY goes both ways. Don’t play the innocent victim here. Both sides are keeping this going. Me… I’m doing it out of sheer morbid curiosity at this point. Something to keep me amused, I guess. The “ridiculosity” of it all has me both confused and gleefully amused at the same time.
By the way… why am I a drama queen again? I can’t really figure that out. The Sunshine Boys stuff… yeah, I get that. By why am I a drama queen versus you? Re-read your comments, look in the mirror and ask who the REAL drama queen is…. lol.
I’m fucking with you Ted!!!!!! Get it?
LMAO
Seriously though, I’m glad we can all still have a laugh after the stupid bullshit is all said and done.
GO LIONS!
How long does your cock have to be to get it stepped on regularly?
For the love of Christ. I think jump-ropecock would be a better term.

four or Five years?
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Hell yes.
Four or five years. Honestly, what do you think happens if we fire Schwartz after this season or next season? Progress? Uh, no. Not even close. If I’ve learned anything from being a Lions fan is that the grass isn’t always greener. The Lions need to find the one thing that they’ve lacked for decades… continuity. Pick a GM, pick a coach and STICK WITH THEM. You hired them for a reason… to turn it around. Sometimes it takes a few years to do just that, especially when you inherit a turd of a roster. Two more drafts and we should be able to fill all remaining holes and provide good, young depth.
I just can’t comprehend how ANOTHER frickin’ coaching change would be a positive here. I can do nothing but shake my head to the absolute impatience and lack of vision from some fans.
I can tell you how a coaching change can be positive
If the Rookie head coach you hired is not getting the job done. Its that simple. 4 to 5 years in the NFL is an absolute eternity. Players start and end their careers faster than that.
4 to 5 years to be a legitimate Superbowl contender? That I can buy.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
I will give you this...
You are patient and committed. I respect that.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
What did you think I meant?
Yes, I expect them to be a Super Bowl contender in 4 or 5 years. If not, switch it up. But they need 4 or 5 years to try to get it done. Continuity… it works wonders. Not that we ever get to find out.

Than we agree on something, stunning.
Let me ask you this, and no it is not a loaded question. If you were Mayhew and Lewand, when do you start evaluating Schwartz as a head coach?
I will tell you this in an attempt for clarity. I think last year is a wipe. It never happened. This year on the other hand, if I were them, I would be evaluating him from start to finish.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
When they have enough talent to contend.... that's when.
Is that not acceptable? Should Schwartz be held accountable for the roster before him? That’s what he was handed. No coach can win with a bad roster. They are making strides, but he has to be given a fair shot with good talent.
They still have so many holes. I don’t care if you are Vince Lombardi incarnate, you cannot win with this many holes. I think they are playing hard for Schwartz, but when you have a lot of holes and iffy depth, you cannot overcome the significant injuries they have had this year.
I can see that point of view
I don’t necessarily agree with it but I can see where you are coming from.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Soooooo.....
you think Schwartz is accountable for the lack of talent when he got here? You don’t think this team has significantly upgraded, yet still has a lot of holes? You don’t think we are on the road up instead of down? You disagree with my opinion… so why?
I really did not want to get into this again
but ok.
Here is my evaluation of Schwartz as clearly as I can put it. On a scale of 10(perfect) to -10(perfectly horrible) he is a 0 right now. He has done some good things some bad things. Please remember this is only my opinion.
On to your points.
you think Schwartz is accountable for the lack of talent when he got here?
No, i do not hold him responsible for this but a NFL coach is responsible for his team winning and losing and eventually had to be measured in this fashion. A coach has to maximize his players potential no matter the circumstances. Before you get all offended please read on.
You don’t think this team has significantly upgraded, yet still has a lot of holes?
Absolutely, I think Mayhew has done an amazing job maximizing his his draft position, waver wire position and making trades that in hindsight look to be more than just steals. Has JS been a part of this process, no doubt, but that is not his job. That is Mayhews job and he is doing exceptionally so far. How this man worked under Millen is utterly beyond me. He must have been banging his head against the wall at least half of every work day and sundays must have felt like being gutted like a fish.
You don’t think we are on the road up instead of down?
I absolutely do think we are on the up swing. As I mentioned above I think that has far more to do with Mayhew than Schwartz.
Finally, I am not calling for JS to be fired. As I said, I am basically ambivalent to him at this moment but I do think it is fair for him to be evaluated at the end of this season. Many things this season are out of his hands. I understand this and appreciate it. That does not excuse him from one simple reality. Winning is all that matters in the NFL even if that is not the way it should be in an idea world. Finding a way to win with the players you are given is his job and to date he has failed in this task.
He has plenty of season left to prove he is the right man for the task at hand. I hope he makes a believer out of me and proves clearly he deserves to stay.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Okay, so I hear....
Yes… all those factors are indeed oppressing Schwartz’s ability to field a talented team and win, but I refuse to give him that. Winning is all that counts and even though I concede that the chips are heavily stacked against him personnel and injury-wise, I cannot give him the benefit of the doubt.
That’s cool if that’s your opinion, but it still – after all this arguing – makes little sense to me. All those opposing factors are actuality, yet you dismiss them and say winning is the only indicator. Whatevs…..
I see them and understand them
but this is the reality of the NFL. And it will remain the reality of the NFL with your approval or not. Coaches are judged on the number of wins and losses.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
If you read me above Josh you will see why I feel 3 year minimum and yes even 5 years is a viable time line

It is not the reality of the NFL. This is not my opinion. This is reality in the NFL. As a coach you are judged on wins an losses.

in an ideal

Reality is that WCF gave the last guy, who was doing a far worse job 8 years
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
BTW he also fired the guy before Millen on a knee jerk reaction after a loss to Chicago
The point I made, that you seemed to miss is this, no one really knows, so why worry about it so much right now? Are you the guy calling that shot? Well obviously not right so why worry so much about things out of your control?
To bring up something once is to make a point, to keep it up over and over and over is just talking until, well until your blue in the face. Now being a Smurf and all that does not really bother me. But at some point people turn their ears off to a broken record.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
yet everyone seems to keep wanting to beat into the ground
that Schwartz has 3, 4 or even 5 years into the ground.
That is absurd and you know it. If he does not start winning, 3 years may be too much to ask.
He had a great plan today and frankly it did not seem like a conservative effort. How much of that was being behind early and being forced to air it out? I am not sure but it was clear he was letting his OC use all the weapons he has at his disposal.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Oh that is just thier opinion, they don't know any more than you do, it is all just guesswork

Also
I did not start a single one of these threads.
Should I just keep my mouth shut about my opinions while people with the same knowledge as me spout off about how our coach has 3 years guaranteed and some even saying more?

Dude
Trust me, I don’t want there to be another coaching change either. It’d be essentially a waste of a draft pick in Stafford if we’re switching out coaches all the time but 4 years is enough. I really think .500 in 4 years is not asking for much.
I mean really, just win half your games in 2012, that’s all I want.
I've heard
rumors that fans in some cities actually wager cash that their team might win. Can you imagine? Real money! I’m going to start saving pennies in a jar and in three or four years when it builds up to $10 I’m going to make one of those ‘bets’ on the Lions and I really do hope Schwartz is on the sideline when I do.
If you beat on the Lions to cover the spread this year you would be a rich man
As much bitching and whining as people are doing the Lions on Sundays are actually exceeding the experts opinions of them on the field.

Yeah, it is called the NFL Draft, we usually are pretty high up in the rankings in that one

Big and tough just like in Tenn. It is nice to see qbs scramble. Your post is right on. This team is gettin close. Hard to believe at 0-4.

For the record
I support Mayhew and Schwartz 1000%, still.
I’m a little bit older and have seen much Lions history dating back to the 60’s. As a result, I tend to be more patient than some and let my experience shape my perspective. I’ve seen it all (or most of it anyway, lol).
I’ve seen longtime losing teams become dynasties.
I’ve seen onetime dynasties fall into dysfunctional rubble.
And I’ve seen teams whose fans are impatient for immediate gratification, immediate success. This leads to arbitrary time limits on how long to keep a coach, or arbitrary standards for number of wins in a given year. But every situation is different, and those things are at best a crude measure of how a coach and GM are doing in building the team. The reality is more subtle and complicated and thoughtful than that. Unfortunately, many people don’t deal well with subtle and complicated; they prefer the simple, emotional, knee-jerk reactions of panic and scapegoating. This leads to constant turnover in the coaching staff, which leads to constantly “starting over” and constantly “rebuilding” every few years. The Lions fall into this last group. This lack of continuity in direction for the franchise is a big part of the problem. That’s why the best franchises have good coaches who stay there a long time and give the team continuity and a consistent direction. You establish a foundation and build on it. You don’t tear down the building every few years and slap another shanty up on top of the rubble, but due to the impatience of fans and the media, that’s what we’ve been doing. Yeah, that doesn’t work…..go figure. It’s time for a more common-sense, long-term approach. There have been bad coaches here in Detroit who deserved to be fired because they didn’t have the “right stuff” to turn this franchise around, regardless of their record. Jim Schwartz, regardless of his record so far in the short-term (yes, Virginia, this IS the short-term), DOES HAVE (IMO) the “right stuff” to turn this franchise around and make it into a winner. Jim Schwartz is a good coach. Please give him a chance before you panic and throw him out. Things are improving, the team is getting better, thanks to Schwartz. Give it time this time.
Patience, young padawans.

+1 then some
year after year this has been the formula and it has failed miserably. If Detroit wants a winning atmosphere and a reliable coach, then Schwartz is definitely the man . So he’s made some “questionable” calls, all coaches do. Even New England’s coach has been catching criticism for the last couple years over some of his calls that he’s made yet he is one of the best coaches in the game and sometime you just make the wrong call. Part of me thinks this has to do w/ their “by the numbers smarty pants coaching style” … Plus how is he going to build his team that he wants if he cant be given the time and the off seasons to get it more to “HIS LIKING” cant be done in one season, Detroit never had enough pieces.
One thing i am concerned w/ is as a defense first coach, how much they did in off season to make sure they could shoot it out, but didnt make sure they could protect the lead w/ at least a better back 7. One line backer, and the current moves so far would get this team going in the right direction as far as defense.
A coward dies a thousands Deaths a soldier dies once ....
I do not buy that
Turning over the coaching staff when they are not performing is absolutely necessary. I am not saying Schwartz is there yet.
The reason the past decade has been so horrible is because of the GMs in charge and their willingness to throw the coach under the bus to divert the blame from themselves. We have a competent GM now. If Mayhew decides Schwartz is not getting the job done this year or next, I am not in a position to find too much fault in that evaluation.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Turning over the coaching staff........
Leads to new coaches……..which leads to……
a new playbook, a new offense, a new defense, a new style…….which leads to……
new players to fit that style, new players from that coach’s old team, etc….which leads to….
more turnover and churning of the roster without necessarily improving the talent and chances of winning……..which leads to…….
more “starting over from scratch”, more “rebuilding”…….like slapping a shanty on top of the previous rubble. That’s not a formula for success. The constant turnover, the lack of a consistent long-term vision, the directionless churning of coaches and players, is a large part of the problem.
Much of it because of short-sighted fan and media impatience. I’ve been here since the 60’s. I’ve seen it time and time again. That arbitrary time limit sounds like the failed policies of most of the past 50 years (yes, I’ve seen Lions history prior to the year 2000). Arbitrary time limits for coaches is frankly a crude and immature way to run an organization. Believe it or not, managing subordinates and setting standards for performance CAN be done in a more detailed, thoughtful, subtle, thorough, less crude way. I have more faith in Mayhew than that. And I have faith in Schwartz as a coach. He’ll be fine. Relax.
Patience, young padawan.

Your post, while appearing to be a response to mine completely ignores the points I made.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
On the contrary
Schwartz is a fine coach who will get us there. He will perform. The “if” is irrelevant in his case. This “if” thing is a smokescreen. Be honest. Do you think Schwartz is the right coach or not? Don’t hide behind “IF Mayhew thinks, etc, etc……” What do YOU think?
Turning over the coaching staff when they are not performing is absolutely necessary. I am not saying Schwartz is there yet.
Often this is used as the excuse here and elsewhere, when in fact what is happening is not necessarily the coaching staff not performing, but impatient fans and media mistakenly thinking that they have the wrong coach, throwing him out too soon, and the rebuilding/starting from scratch starts all over again. It all hinges on the distinction between a coaching staff making/not making progress in building a team and the assumption by fans and media that the coaches are “not performing”. Assumptions are a dangerous thing. So is impatience.

I am not sure how you can say this
Schwartz is a fine coach who will get us there. He will perform.
What evidence have you seen to be so absolute in your thoughts?
Do you think Schwartz is the right coach or not?
Presently, no. He has not shown me enough to think he is going to be the coach that takes the team to the next level. That being competitive and playoff contenders, year in and year out. This is not to say he will not show that eventually, he is a young coach after all but to this point he has not shown me enough.
Assumptions are a dangerous thing. So is impatience.
I am assuming nothing. I know what I see and what I feel. As far as impatience. I have been a Lions fan my whole life. In reference to patience, I do not need to prove anything. My attitude is put up or shut up. Time is needed with this franchise from top to bottom, I understand that. So I will restate what I said before…
If Mayhew decides Schwartz is not getting the job done this year or next, I am not in a position to find too much fault in that evaluation.
Nothing has changed concerning my thoughts on this matter.

It's not worth it.....Save your energy
In a couple of days there will be an abundance of hot topics, good and bad, I’m sure.
We'll see what we see
In regards to patience, I don’t need to prove anything either. I’ve been a Lions fan my whole life, too……a somewhat longer time, I’d guess. My evidence is the whole body of my experience as a football fan and student of human nature…..life experience. I don’t set arbitrary deadlines of this year or next….I’ve seen that approach fail time and time again. And I don’t hide behind Mayhew’s skirt. I believe in Schwartz 1000%. Based on all I’ve seen of Schwartz and others in my lifetime, my judgement is that Schwartz will get it done if the media and fans will stop panicking long enough to let him do so. So sit back and relax, ease off on the simplistic “put up or shut up” ultimatums, and enjoy the process of building a winner. It’s gonna be all right.
"We lost!" Delmas yelled at reporters. "What you want? What you got to ask me?"
Delmas stared at reporters defiantly.

Schwartz
Unless there is a complete breakdown in team moral or total incompetance (such as taking the wind instead of the ball in overtime), you have to give him three seasons.
I loathe Kevin Seifert
He never has anything positive to say about the Lions. Ever.
USE THE SCHWARTZ!!!
Kevin Seifert is my FAVORITE writer in the history of writing.
He only prints stuff that is of the utmost value and anything put in his blogs is DEFINITELY worth reading and idolizing.
…tongue very, very firmly planted in cheek…. :o)
He actually didnt say anything but what most of us are saying, taken in context, Schwartz has done nothing to merit being on the hot seat yet
Kevin Seifert (2:22 PM)
Very complicated issue. As we’ve said before, coaches are ultimately judged on their record, regardless of circumstances. Schwartz’s record is 2-18. It goes without saying how bad that is. That said, I’m not sure I could run off a list of 10 things that he should have done to make it better. There have been some debatable game-management decisions, but ultimately he lost his starting quarterback in the first half of Week 1 and has an abominable group of linebackers and defensive backs. He’s the coach, so he should be blamed. But you don’t give up on him yet, knowing what you know about his circumstances.
I remain convinced of that latter sentiment after a day to reflect on my answer. I think it’s reasonable to believe the record is terrible but that Schwartz’s performance has not been. That’s just me. What do you think?

Tongue in cheek for a completely different reason there, Smurf.....
Not in relation to this article….
I'm not mad Drew
hell, if I was quoted on ESPN.com I’d tell everybody I know. I’d probably post a link to it in my sig too. Definitely something you should be proud of, I don’t think there’s any reason to beat around the bush, it’s a pretty badass accomplishment. Be proud, my man.
I thought it was pretty cool, but...
there were quite a few people who didn’t take kindly to me “promoting” the fact that it was there and there were some pretty ugly comments directed at me because of it. I guess I can understand that. Anyway, thanks for the kind comments.
They're just hatin'
It would be one thing if you had submitted something to Kevin Seifert and he published it. However, he just happened to be scouring the web for Lions updates, came upon your article, and was so impressed that he quoted it in his blog. Didn’t he even say something to the effect of “I’ve always liked Drews writing” or something like that? Don’t remember exactly what he said but it was something along those lines.
You should be very proud of yourself. And the haters can go eat a dick.
F the haters Drew
you are a good writer. Be proud of what you pour out onto your screen. I think you capture what the majority of us are feeling and thinking in a very eloquent style.
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
Ahh now I remember Drew, well I know how it feels ;)
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Now what's the issue?...I was just trying to talk football.
I wasn’t trying to direct anything to or about anyone, and I’d never write Kevin Seifert.
I just thought those on either side of the aisle might want to get their views heard.
Dude, it's hard to tell because of the thread layout, but...
if this is a response to my tongue-in-cheek poke above… enough. You obviously didn’t read the rest of the comments and/or have absolutely ZERO sense of humor (my guess is all of the above).
I was poking fun at myself for the ruckus I caused by “calling attention to” Seifert quoting me in his blog on ESPN.com.
The fact that you continue to self-segregate (“those on the either side of the isle”… what isle???), shows that you are the one with the issue here. I get slapped for “continuing feuds” or whatever, but every chance you get to bring up the “two sides”, you do….
Either stop posting about it or stop your complaining. Geez….
See here you go with the insults again...
And I’m the one with no sense of humor. Looks like those panties are getting balled up pretty fast awful early in the morning.
Insults? Uh... where?
Look at your post and then mine and tell me who is insulting who? My comments originally were directed at Twon, not you. You are once again sticking your nose into something, then backing out and playing the boo-frickin’-hoo victim. “Waa…. Drew’s picking on me… waaa.”
I’m sick of that. Read my comments again and see if it warranted you telling me to kiss your ass. Then see how people should take you……
Perhaps I have been overreacting to the Pessimists.
Visiting other team sites on SB is a real eye opener. The Packers site is really riled up right now because they:
A/ Lost to Chicago a couple of weeks ago
B/ Barely beat us at home. They pretty much all think they were badly outplayed.
C/ Failed to trade for Marshawn Lynch…especially when a third round pick would have snagged him.
D/ Is losing even more players [Burnett and Barnett] to season long injuries.
and this from a team that is 3 and 1 and is acknowledged as one of the NFC favourites to get to the Super Bowl.
The Bears site is like a wake right now. The only positive comments are about Julius Peppers and their Linebackers. They are 3 and 1.
Maybe it is just a mindset that people always look for the bad no matter what the situation. That is probably why negative campaigning works so well…..even though we say that it turns us off as voters.
For my part I will criticize [constructively and calmly] where I feel appropriate, but will praise when it is deserved and will remain optimistic about our long range prospects.
I agree with your last statement, but I'm not sure...
I agree with the rest of it. So just because other team’s fans are pessimistic, we should adopt it or be more tolerant of it here? Can’t say I agree with that. Optimism is a mindset. You choose to either focus more on the negative or more on the positive.
If everything with the Lions was negative right now, I’d probably join in on the bashing, but that is clearly not the case. Certainly, there are things to criticize and be upset about with this 0-4 team right now. BUT… there are many things to be excited and optimistic about as well. I get frustrated when all that is dwelled upon is the negative and the positive elements of the games are forgotten based on win/loss alone. That is the quintessential negative or pessimistic fan and that is just a downer… completely.
While I agree that it’s likely human nature to get riled up over something negative over something positive, why must we as Lions fans and members of this site HAVE to focus on that? Answer… we don’t. Those who do so, CHOOSE to do so, for whatever reason. Most likely, that is their outlook on life… not just the Lions. So while I understand your post North, I have to disagree that we have to be that way on POD.
Drew, I just meant that I thought [wrongly it seems] that negative perception was "unique" to Lions' sites.
I do agree with almost everything you said. I am not advocating unrestrained pessimism, I just meant that I will not get personally worked up about them anymore. It is a condition, not unique to this site, of numerous fans who will ignore the positives to rant on about what they believe are the [instantly and easily correctable] negatives.
Life is too short and it has really lowered my enjoyment of this site. I won’t participate in the Game day threads due to the tenor of the comments….besides that, I would rather just watch the game(s) than sit at my computer. Because that’s what this site is all about, talking with fellow Lions fans to make being a Lions fan more enjoyable.
That's surprising to hear

Lets face it, sports are a mans version of a Soap Opera
The conversations and drama we go through here are not unlike a snapshot of any reality TV show. Maybe it should be the Real Fans of the Detroit Lions instead of Pride of Detroit? ;)
