Heading into the season it seemed clear that the secondary was priority #1 on Defense. After about Week 4 my oppinion started to shift from DB being our top need to LB. What do you think? Its still early but I have been impressed lately with the performances of Chris Houston and Alphonso Smith. Delmas is a cornerstone at safety and Speivey has shown potential. Our biggest area of concern for me now has become LB. Levy's injury situation hasnt helped. But even on the outside spots I have not been impressed with Peterson or Follet. Our front 4 does a good job against the run IMO but as soon as a runner breaks to the second level of defense which is gonna happen no matter how good your D-Line is, as soon as it happens Im not seeing the LBs step up. Instead I see missed tackles galore. The same can be said in terms of screen passes (see:Matt Forte and Danny Amendola) and short plays.
The addition of a solid LB (at any position but my preference is a stud MLB) would do a world of difference. Id love to get a guy in the middle which would enable us to move Levy back to the outside. He did a good job on the outside last year and would be able to utilize his speed more and be a blitzing threat. Come next year, unless Follet makes some serious strides I dont see him starting again and with Peterson seeming to decline in production he may become a cap casualty.
On offense there isnt much to say. I think we all would agree on needing another LT for the future. Id then move Backus to RT, Id have Cherilus take Peterman's sport at guard, and leave Sims and Raiola at there positions.
So what do you guys think is our biggest need? You can even throw names out there either potential draftees, free agents, or trade options.
