Just a few pieces away
The Lions Offense is clicking WITHOUT Stafford, should be even better when he returns. The Defense is improving every game it seems and correct me if i am wrong but we have not lost a game by 2 scores yet have we? Today against the Giants was our worst loss all year (Touchdown and a 2 pt conversion away)
Anyway i really believe we are a CB,LB and RG away from being a Playoff team. Peterman has got to go we need somebody who is not going to false start or give us a hold in the middle of crucial drives. Resign Julian Peterson, Linebackers are a weak link keep this Vet around. Sign Stephen Tulloch, has familiarity with Schwartz and adds to our thin Linebacking corps. Draft Prince Amukamaru and Greg Jones. If a dominate Offensive tackle is there take him but that class looks weak this year. and if you can draft those two guys your Defense should be set.
We aren't to far away

ILB Slides
The last few years ILBs have been sliding hard in ’09 Jim Laurinaitis and Rey Maualuga slide well into the second. And with a probable top five pick, Prince Amukamaru and Greg Jones are quite possible available when we come to turn. Also we might pull the Best move and trade up into first for Jones.
I am intrested in how Nick Bellore projects in the Draft.

Rolando McClain was a freak of nature.......
Who tore apart Texas WHILE he had the flu. McClain was the best ILB prospect to come out in a longggggg time. Greg Jones is nothing special, nor do I think he will make that great of a pro. He’s nothing better than a second round pick.
I think Greg Jones is overrated too, but I have not seen enough other line backers to know who is better
I really want to catch some games with that other guy uhm Miller I think his name is Von Miller or something like that?
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Jones is a monster
I dont think he is overrated. he just gets too much attention kinda like graham did last year. If graham was desent and not a standout everyone said the same thing that he was overrated

I think Jones is a beast
he lack of speed will hurt him at the combine.

Check out Travis Lewis of Oklahoma.
One of the top Outside LBs. Apparently ideally suited for a 4-3 defence.
good call on Lewis
I watched Mason Foster of Washington and Dontay Moch of Nevada play this weekend. Foster looks to be a trumper in the middle. He range is so-so. But he hits and wraps up the tackle. Moch looks tto be a OLB in a 4-3. Good size 6’1 237lb. The dude has speed and instints. Nevada played Hawaii adn their spread offense. Moch was all over the field. The guy can cover and tackle.
North, I think you, me and Millen_Free( and anyone else that wants in) should maybe do a weekly write up. On some college games that feature players that could be draft worthy for the Lions.

Jones is projected at Weakside in the NFL
and he should be there in the 2nd
we lost to Minnesota...
24-10. The main problem is we still allow too many “explosion” plays on defense and don’t have a consistent run game. If these problems get addressed, along with playing smarter, we will be a playoff team.
I feel the "explosive" plays are due to lack of talent
That one lights out linebacker. The CB that can blanket a reciever. And a RG that does not get huge penalities every game.

We have have the talent
everytime we have the ball we do something with it. I know I’m going to get slamed for this but Best is not as good as we thought. He is an awsome recieving back but he is just too small to go up the middle like we keep trying to do with him. we need a true bruiser at RB to compete. Dont get me wrong I love Best and Smith and anyone else wearing Honolulu blue but he snot gitting it done.

We need a third WR with skill that can catch the damn ball.
WR is far from set.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
We should put Best as a slot receiver and draft a real stud RB that can break tackles
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
C. J. Nate, and Best would be a wickid receiving corps
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
I agree
I love best as a WR and he is dangerous cause noone knows what he going to do. Kinda like Nate ran the ball today and calvin the other game you could have best do that too, but he would be more dangerous that way. Is Ingram coming out this year

Need a LT
Lions need a LT that can protect the blind side and actually open holes for the backs Jeff Backus just directs DE where to go he doesn’t create holes.
Lions Super Bowl 2012
I am starting to think that the Lions need more than just a LT
IMO a LT, C, and a RG.

B. Johnson will be gone in the offseason

I would prefer that they give DWill a good look in game action.
He has his moments as a receiver. As a returner? Forget it.
I am 50/50 with you on Best
And I might get slammed for this statement. But I think this will be a much better offense when Stafford is in there. I know Hill has done a good job. But I think Stafford will throw the ball down field more. My problem with Best is that he gets alot of carries in the obvisous running situations.

Hopefully we see more fo a healthy Kevin Smith soon
I like the occasional flashes from Felton too. I like how he runs and he seems to be more effective than Best lately. That being said he has hands of freaking stone sometimes and lets that ball bounce off his chest plate way too much as a receiver.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
yea agree
I dont have a problem with Best getting the ball. I have a problem with us trying to run him up the middle when he a little bigger than my wife who is 5’1" 97 lbs. I love best but he can’t get it done up the middle and it seems to me that thats the only running call he gets

I think the Eagles game
was the perfect use of Best. The Lions started out passing the ball. Gave Best some carries out of the shotgun. Let him get the ball in space and use his vision and speed to make things happen.

They need to watch how the Vikings were running Harvin, it was effective
Then again we don’t have the run blocking the Vikings have. But Dallas was shutting down A. P. and Harvin was ripping off some good runs.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Kinda
Philly was in complete control early and they werent thinking about the run game. They were letting the Lions run the ball.Best hits the holes to fast,he needs to be more patient and HE NEVER BOUNCES OUTSIDE.
Lions Super Bowl 2012
No they were not in complete control early
it was 21-17 at the half. On the Lions first drive. Best had a 19 yard screen pass. Than ripped a 10 yrd run to the outside. Second drive, Best bounces to the outside for a 13 pick up. Best up the middle for 33 yrds. Than in a shotgun Best on a draw for a 14 yrd TD.

Best has been disappointing of late
But I think much of that can be chalked up to poor run blocking. I think we need to use him better than we are.
RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.

Thank you!
Everyone is hating on Best and Lion’s running game, but everyone seems to fail to realize that we lack the oline to punch the gut, and that Best isn’t a power back, he’s a receiving back.
I’m really hoping we can pick up a 3rd round RB who slips because he’s not agile, but is a real bruiser who can take hits.
Shaun Merriman ???
The trade deadline is Oct. 19th . Maybe you can find a few more depth guys to pick up off waivers . You need to trade down in the next draft to build depth . You still get winded in the fourth . Without a solid rotation of players . The players that are on IR need to better condition themselves for next season . I don’t feel that you play guys that are still hurt . Like GB and CHI do . But you need to give less reps in practice and stay healthy . I do like that your fans are resilient and fair in their assessments . As the Bears at 4-2 are screaming ! With a Home game , Bye week and Buffalo as their next three weeks opponents . What more could they be looking forward to than that ? And GB seems to keep losing guys left and right . I’m sure that pains you as much as it does me .
We dont need to trade for him
If he is not off IR before the trade deadline he goes on the waiver wire, and only the Rams are ahead of us on that. Most of us don’t want Merriman, due to his checkered past with roids, and constant injury issues, not to mention that he is a 3-4 rush LB that would not translate too well to our scheme. You never know but I would not think it is too likely.
Most of us would probably part with Gosder Cherilus or Drew Stanton if we could get a guy like Rocky McIntyre from the Redskins but that is probably not likely either. We have two big injuries at LB in DeAndre Levy, our starting MLB, who is not a stud but could develop into one if he could stay healthy. The other is Jordan Dizon, who was our best coverage LB, but he is out for the year on IR. Should be back next year though. I would think they might give Rocky Boiman a call, or grab Spencer Havner (currently waived / injured) back up once he is healthy. Boiman is a journeyman who knows the Schwartz system from his days in Tennessee, and Havner we picked up off waivers from Green Bay and he looked half decent when he saw some limited time.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
For 1 Evil Merriman
Would never come too Detriot as a FA we would need to trade for him. 2 Why would we want a guy that can’t play that good without the juice. Here’s a fix to the problem that we are talking about. THE RAIDERS have openly said EVERYONE on their roster is open for trade. Go out and get Seymore at DE to play with KVB Williams and SUH. Move Avril to ILB cause he has the speed and strength to play that position. And since we are taking Raiders in my dream offer something for the CB that no one can say his name ASOMUGHA It might cost us our first 2 picks in the next draft but we would have 2 PB players at needed positions. You are not guaranteed that in the draft. Heck might as well throw our 3rd round pick in there for Bush at RB as well, then we could move Best to WR and really scare other teams.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Lions need Talent and Depth
I’d say keep the top 5 pick (which they are gonna get) draft an absolute stud LT-CB-OLB .This team is close ,and yes depth is a huge problem, but they need some better starters at these spots.
