So it’s the bye week and I wanted to give POD something to think about and discuss.
I think we can all agree that the lions are getting better. It’s been hard to watch them loose this season, but for the most part they have been competitive with some good teams this season. I have faith in the coaching staff and front office that they will continue to make this team better.
So this brings me to my question for all you Lion fans. What is the identity of this team going forward?
I started looking at other NFL teams over the past 10 years and all of the most consistent teams seem to have an “Identity”. Whether it be a player, coach, scheme, whatever, they all have something that sets them apart from other teams.
The colts have been to the playoffs 9 times since 2000, the most of any other team. If you ask anyone what sets the colts apart, its Payton Manning and the offence. No matter who comes and goes as long as Payton is there they will win games.
The eagles have been to the playoffs 8 times since 2000. They have put up some good numbers on offence but it’s their consistency, coaching staff, and defensive scheme that set them apart in my opinion.
The list goes on, Pittsburg, Tampa, Baltimore, Tennessee. Defense and great defensive players. Green bay, St Louis, New England. Offence and good quarterbacks.
So again, what is the identity you want to see this team take on? And where will they be in 10 years? I think we have the tools of a great offence with Stafford, Johnson, Pettigrew and Best. We are starting to build a young core of talented defensive players like Suh and Delmas.
So in the next decade my hope is the lions won’t be remembered as the team that went 0-16 but the team that__________ (Fill in the blank with your thoughts)
