Jahvid Best was my pick back in 2008

In response to some posts about Jahvid Best not being what we expected, I have a story about him back in 2008 and when I saw him back then, I wanted him on that dreaded 0-16 team, even though we already had a promising rookie in Kevin Smith.

I have cousins who live Berkley, California. One of them attended Cal University for 4 years and I went out to visit them in 2008 and both of my cousins are big Cal and San Fransisco 49er fans. So every year I go there or when they come here, we discuss football both college and NFL. The Cal game was on that day and I saw Jahvid Best just tearing up the team they played against. Well, I did remember seeing Jahvid Best play against the Spartans that year thinking "How come Michigan couldn't have a running back like that?" and was talking to my cousins about him while watching him play, they both told me how they wanted him to play for the 49ers even though they had Frank Gore.

They said he was like Reggie Bush, but had Barry Sanders like moves. I didn't think he was that good until I watched the entire game and he ran for like 300 yards or something like that. He was absolutely brilliant, stopping and starting and cutting on a dime, he really did have moves similar to Barry's. I told them I hope the Lions draft him when he comes out of college because he was so brilliant. Well, two years later I got my wish, the Lions drafted him and for a bargain price. I didn't think we would get so lucky, but we did.

To all those who doubt him, once Best get's healthy again and with Stafford under center, we will see how good he can really be. He's only scratched the surface of his potential, he could be in the same discussion as Billy Sims and Barry Sanders if he stays healthy. He has the speed and moves, along with the catching ability. I'm so happy that this team, despite the 1-5 start, has a playmaker like Best and things will really get interesting come October 31st.
