Things I want to see in the second half
1. Stafford stay healthy, take control of this offence, have a winning streak
2. Kevin Smith get used a lot more often. I'm sorry I might take some shit for this but Best is not a feature back. He can get 10-15 touches per game and get you close to 100 yards, but he's a homerun hitter and should be treated like one. If your not gonna use Smith as the power back then get Felton in there more!!!
3. Get a running game started in the 2nd half, Smith hasn't played much but looks decent. I don't care if they run to set up the pass or pass you set up the run but I want to see them move the ball on the ground.
4. STOP THE STUPID FUCKING PENALTIES
5. With a healthy offence can Linehan call the right plays to power this offence to the next level
6. More blitz packages from the Gunner
7. Better clock management from Schwartz
8. Are CB's continued improvement
9. To have 3 starting LB that stay healthy and play a few games together to start to gel together, every week it's a guessing game other than JP being out there.
10. To win on Thanksgiving

I haven't seen enough running attempts from Best..
As soon as he gets to 20+ a game, then you can make that statement.
not really a bruiser
but not merely a speedbump in pass protection either. K Smith has his role.
However, i am not worried about how Best gets his touches—just as long as he gets them. i love those fake screens! he is quite a decoy when defenses get nervous about him. i love it!
Ugh...not this shit again
Sorry msivits…I usually agree with you…but not on this one.
Jahvid Best can be an every down back…but first we need offensive linemen that can block. I am not against having K-smooth as a 3rd down back, or even just to give Best a few plays to rest, but it is not the running back that is the problem. It is the guys opening the holes that are the problem.
I want to see the FO rebuild the O-line just like they did the D-line…then we can say for sure who is and who isn’t an every down back.
Oh you didn't know?? You're ass better CALLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!!!!!
no worries
And your probably right with our O-line, it’s just when were at 3rd and 3, and I see Best go up the gut for 2. Then I guess I should of said " as of right now Best is not a feature back until our O-line gets rebuilt" : )
oh god
first off Best is still a rookie, and I beleave that the bar was set so high by us fans after the first 2 weeks; which he didn’t get yards but he did get TD’s; that he can not get to that plato until next year. REV I agree that we need more help up front. Simms has looked great but the rest of them have been average. Bachus needs to be a depth Tackle by the start of next year and so does Peterman.Gosdner has looked better this year than he has at any point in his tenure and with the same O-line coach he should progress to the next level by next year. If we get a shot at a descent center he should be looked at hard in the draft/FA. The biggest problem I have seen so far is the lack of talent at the LB position; even before the season started I said it would be the weakest link on the team and so far they have proven me right.
How many lumps you want Doc?
lmao
Smith is not a bruiser. He is not even close.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.

Where did I ever said I'm giving up on Best
I question your reading abilities, maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think he’s going to turn into a 20 to 25 carries a game type of back.
he is a slipery little fella
I think he is fully capable of being a feature back. Players of his skill set are often slow to start in this league. someone else mentioned how fast he is to hit the line. Often running up the back of his lineman. With his acceleration, ability to stop on a seeming dime and cutting ability, he needs to be more patient behind any line. That will come with time.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
not only that
but this isn’t a typical NFL offense we are practically the first team in the NFL to put in a real spread offense. Other than maybe when the patriots took an undefeated streak into the superbowl just to lose. most of his runs are gonna be sweeps and draws and runs out of the shotgun. we need to be able to have our o line spread them out and get the guy in space.

How are we a spread offence?
When we have 2 TE’s in on almost every play????
How many lumps you want Doc?
We run a spread type of scheme, with two TE instead of slot receivers, New England has been running it for years
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Agree
Didn’t they say Chris Johnson wasn’t an every down back when he came in the league as well…..
I say aside from the injuries Jahvid had in college, they are similar players
So if we were to only see one thing, what would it be?
For me it would be Brady get smacked in the mouth on Thanksgiving. I’m talking Ram sized beat down. Somewhere in the neiborhood of 50-0. Most of the other ten would show up in one form or another if that were to happen.

As I posted elsewhere the other day, I SAW IT HAPPEN!! The mighty Pittsburgh Steelers, complete with one of the top defenses in the league came in around 1980 or so with, I believe, a 10-1 record or similar, and we STOMPED THEIR BUTT!! Final score: Detroit 52
Pitt 10!!
Sir Ronbomb
OOPS!
Must be senility setting in. I just checked TDay records; It was 1983, Pitt was 9-3 coming in, Lions won 45-3. Not too shabby, at that! Pitt finished with 10-6 and won their division. Lions finished 9-7 under Monte Clark , also won the NFC Central. They(Lions) lost to 49ers in Div. game. Pitt lost to LA Raiders in Div. game.
Sir Ronbomb
Still like to see it happen to Brady

Not this year guys.
with NO LB’s and average too below average CB’s, Brady an Welker are going to eat us for dinner.
How many lumps you want Doc?
If there was one thing I would like to see in the second half
It would be Stafford throwing 8 TD’s in one game. I mean, how often do you get to that?
if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin
That would be an NFL record, Sid Luckman holds the current record with 7.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
And yes that record goes all the way ack to the 40's
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Well, with Best
being such a receiving back, I can definitely see it happening since “running” touchdowns (i.e. runs that start outside of the pocket) will be credited to Stafford for the toss.
I am ok with 3 as long as we pass 1st
To open up the run. I also agree with you on Best. Great runner bit not built to shoulder the load of 20 – 25 carries.

I think you need to move the penalties up to number one
I think that is the main reason that we only have one win right now
I am not placing any expectations or desires
I am just going to sit back and enjoy watching the Lions. Of course I hope for much, but I expect nothing.
I am hoping for respectability in the following terms.
1) Win the games that we should win, so that is only Buffalo LoL
2) Win some games that we are not favored in but are on similar talent to the other team, that would be the Bears and Tampa Bay IMO
3) Win a big upset, preferably against the Jets, Pats, Cowboys, or Vikings
4) See Suh set the rookie record for sacks and win DROY, sack record is Javon Kerse with 12.5
5) see Suh make the pro bowl
6) reach a final total of 6 wins or more
7) see all of our core guys stay healthy (Stafford, Calvin, Best, Suh, Levy, Delmas)
8) see Stafford progress, 65% completions and 2 TDs per interception would be amazing
9) see the Lions finish third or better in the NFC North
10) see the Lions pee in the Viqueens Wheaties and end Favre’s career on a bad note.
An interesting read is here if you want to see how Suh is doing and help put it into perspective.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Oh, and from that great article you linked
A great rookie season would be 35 tackles and five sacks. A good first year would be 25 tackles and three sacks.
Suh is already at the “great” level and has the stats of the best rookie DT in the past 5 years. And we have another 10 games for him to crush the records.
That's what my list would look like also

Things I want to see?
1. Cut down on the gosh damn penalties.
2.Play smarter football. Quit catching kickoffs 1 yard from the sidelines type of stuff.
3.Quit trying to run Best up the middle, time after time. Admit sooner in a game that it just can’t be done.
4.Start winning. The time for promise fading and action is arriving. There’s nothing wrong with winning this year.
5. Stay healthy
6.Lets see what Derrick Williams has, or cut the kid loose.
7.Bench Wade and C.C. regardless if their isn’t “better” replacements.
8.Cut BJ and bring in anyone. Anything is better.
9.Bench Peterman if his stupidity continues, regardless if there’s not a “better” replacement.
10. Beat the Jets and Bears.
I like Marko in the redzone, but other than that...
I would stick with two TE’s, CJ and Nate lol..

I'm saying as a #3
Can’t be worse than Johnson.
I FAR prefer the 2 TE set as well, but I don’t think that we need BJ
I need BJ
I don’t know what I’ma do when there is no more BJ.
If you can't spell practise write, then dont repond!
go get a hummer!
Williams has looked better to me than Johnson and Northcut, cut them both and let the younger guys play!!!!!

Thoughts
1. Stafford stay healthy, take control of this offence, have a winning streak – I think that if he stays healthy… the rest wil come
2. Kevin Smith get used a lot more often. I’m sorry I might take some shit for this but Best is not a feature back. He can get 10-15 touches per game and get you close to 100 yards, but he’s a homerun hitter and should be treated like one. 4. STOP THE STUPID FUCKING PENALTIES – We would have at least 3 wins if it werent for the penalties… seriously.
5. With a healthy offence can Linehan call the right plays to power this offence to the next level- They are already the #2 scoring offense in the NFC, without stafford.
6. More blitz packages from the Gunner. – Disagree, I like the blitz and not-blitz % we have now.
7. Better clock management from Schwartz- Eh, I thnk he is doing ok.
8. Are CB’s continued improvement- They look good to me… for what they are, inexperianced…experiance breeds improvement.
9. To have 3 starting LB that stay healthy and play a few games together to start to gel together, every week it’s a guessing game other than JP being out there.— I am closing the door on the Follet thing… and JP is almost done.. I think we need to draft AT LEAST 2 LB’s this year.
10. To win on Thanksgiving- Easier said than done, but I would love it.
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
That sounds fruity
Sorry Del, I didn’t even click on the link. But, can’t we just do up-downs, laps, and wind sprints like everybody else. Having our third opponent (in every game) at every practice does the following: 1. It will lower the our players’ self esteem. 2. It will increase the risk of injury, I don’t want a flag to hit Suh in the eye, not worth it. 3. It gives our opposition a great advantage over us. There’s no way we’d be able to win if they can see our plays and player’s tendancies. Their schemes and techniques are far superior to ours right now, I don’t think inviting them to our practices would give us any type of advantage.
If you can't spell practise write, then dont repond!
The Event
I have decided that I can deal with another losing season. I will smile and wear my Lions gear with pride even if we only go 2-14 this season. As long as that second win is on Thanksgiving. I can’t deal with losing that game anymore. I’m surprised the league hasn’t given it to another team yet and I’m sure if we lose a few more, they will.
I could link a hundred articles that just annihilate our “attempts at professional football” on Thanksgiving. We haven’t won it since 2003. We haven’t had a Monday Night Game since before that 2003 win (I think) this is about the only time we play on a national stage. So for the second half of this season and for seasons to come: if we can only win one game a year, it needs to be that one.
+ infinity
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
FELTON
Does anybody know why Felton does not get but 1-2 plays called for him a game. There was a game in the preseason where at one point they handed him the ball about 5 times in row and , he just mowed them down, what’s up here?
figured i'd get someone to remarking about preseason
what about when he gets his 1 or 2 shots a game, he always gets good yards? And yes I know he had one dropped a pass but, so has everyone else.
Hey
I like Felton. I thought throwing to him was retarded, and totally Linehan’s fault, so I can’t fault him for the drop. I’ve seen him make plays, and I’ve been happy with him.
But Best and Smith are our tailbacks. Felton can’t block, and he can’t do anything better than Best or Smith can. That’s the main reason.
I like option 4
