I think we are gonna miss Zack more then some people stop to think this year. Why you may ask well apart from his never say die NEVER give up attitude. He expects to win and expects to be part of that win. His development as are starting linebacker replacement for Ernie Sims has not been that awful. Every game he had showed improvement he was constantly around the ball. Aside from that he can change any game on special teams. While is stats don't stand out Zack has 21 tackles in 5 games 12 solo and 9 assist. Aside from all of this the obvious depth that we lack. The linebacker corp is in shambles. JP is the only constant we have one week its Palmer then Johnson then Levy if he can go now we have Carpenter. At this rate I doubt we will see Caleb on the 53 before the end of the season. Now Gun says Carpenter is a steal do ect Gun but "steals" don't normally sit on Free Agency for 5 weeks just praying for anyone to call them.
Why do the fans have this attachment to Zack well alot of reasons. For one he has made him self not only accessible but he kinda seems like one of us at times. He plays full throttle every down even though he only makes 7th round pick money. We love the videos he provides for us, The Pain train nick name, The "crazy" attitude and we all know "The Hit" Amendola maybe the only one that dosen't remember it. Human nature seems to be that everyone cheers for the underdog. What detroit loves about Zack is he seems to have the work ethic and attitude to be on the list of Tom Bradys, Jeff Saturdays, Kurt Warners, and Brett Favres who were over looked by every team and despite all the odds and everyone against them suceeded and have had HOF careers. Is it a reach? Of course it is but Zack is the guy that we all want to see accomplish that feet. He has done everything right no drug chargers, DUI ect...He plays with the attitude and outlook you get from guys like Suh and Stafford who are expected to succeed. Someone made the comment just a few days ago here on POD that they felt privileged at times to be a Zack Follett fan I loved the comment and when I thought about it I agreed. He's the kind of player you stop and think he's a role model, he loves his fans and his teammates, he refuses to fail how can you not love that.
So in conclusion I just wanna say that the slight idea that Zack could never hit an NFL field again has worried me as not only a Lions fan but a Football fan. The NFL needs more guys with his attitude towards the game. He is the anti-Stafford. A 7th round pick no one knew and never thought much of the pick. He was just another body on the practice squad. Zack surely has had a impact on this fan base probably more then some of us believe. Maybe I am wrong but before the season started we were ALL pulling for him. Please continue to pull for the Pain Train as he recovers. We will miss him this season but he is a tough tough guy and I firmly believe he will be back...Better than ever!!
