Lions Sign Randy Phillips To Practice Squad
As expected, the Lions have brought back safety Randy Phillips by signing him to the practice squad.
Phillips was released last week in order to make room for Dante Wesley to be re-signed. Although Phillips played well in the preseason, apparently the coaches weren't all that impressed with how he was doing in the regular season. As a result, he was released, but the intent was to bring him back if he cleared waivers. Thankfully he did in fact clear the waiver wire, so the Lions were able to sign him to the practice squad.
To make room on the practice squad for Phillips, the Lions released center Cody Wallace.

Good...
whether or not he contributes to this team. At least the fans don’t have to worry he’ll catch onto another team and become Ed Reed. Hope we can see him again soon.
I consider him a part of the rebuild.
He should be pretty eager to prove his worth after being cut, I should think.
I don’t want add player does not have blue collar mentality,
even if he is great player. Piston should not quit your job. - OK from J
Assumed this would happen
Glad it did too. He could make the 53 next season.
GET WELL SOON MATT! We need ya man
Just hope...
…that another team doesn’t snatch him off the practice squad now. I’m sure Green Bay will give his tape a close look after losing their starting S for the year after this past weekends game.
I thought he played better than CC. Maybe thats just me.

I am guessing that Gunther and Schwartz don't agree with that.
But I might have been willing to let him learn on the job.
I can remember
at least one occasion where he got burned for a TD, he had to cover for Delmas and they went right at him on his very first down played.
Lions fans deserve better than being the laughing stock of the NFL. Lets all hope they are heading in the right direction finally.
Yeah that was the DeSean Jackson TD in the Eagles game

In the preseason
In the preseason I thought he was probably the best safety that was actually playing. However, I think CC (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) has played pretty well. Especially when you consider he’s get that cast on his fore arm. He’s have probably two picks if he hadn’t had to deal with that cast. Then again, he’s been burned just as often (if not more) then he’s been in good position.
Well, we still theoretically could
if another team signs him to their 53 man roster. However, that seems pretty doubtful.
Michael Lewis was cut today by the 49ers, a 6-1 222lbs. SS with 9 years of experience
So I think a team in a pinch would give him a call before Randy Phillips. Veterans can get up to speed a lot quicker when filling in due to an injury situation and tend to make less mental mistakes even if they have lost a step. So I would expect Randy Phillips to be pretty safe.

Worst tackler on the team
I can’t get past Phillips missing that tackle in the pre-season that sprung the RB for a huge gain. I have not been a fan of his since that. (I wish I could remember specifics.)
There’s a reason he cleared the waiver wire.
All of a sudden, Safeties are falling like flies; Burnett of Green Bay, Bullitt of Indy,
not to mention Gregory of San Diego getting suspended for four games.
Hopefully no one snatches Phillips. Maybe we could trade CC?
Yeah I am with you there, I dont want to lose Phillips, and I would much rather trade C. C. and take out lumps with Phillips with OJT

I followed the chat talk thing this afternoon with Tim Twentyman....
Someone asked him about Spievey, and why isn’t he getting more playing time. Here’s his answer.
Tim Twentyman:
Spievey hasn’t shown me anything to make that move. He has a lot of work to do. Again, it depth. CC is really the best option, which is sad
he would do better
than jonathon wade and , not as confused and might even cover better …tackle better .. even run up on a ball carrier instead of awy from one …anything would be an improvment ….even c.c. brown is better than wade
first game - aug. 1970 = hooked ever since = GO LIONS!!
