Should Stephan Logan Be The Lions Starting Running Back?

By Mike “mike claw” Sudds

The Detroit Lions will be without the services of running backs Kevin Smith and Jahvid Best for the 71st Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game.

Smith is on the Injured Reserve list after aggravating a knee injury suffered last year.

Best may likewise be gone for the remainder of the year with debilitating turf toe injuries to both feet.

Aaron Brown has been activated for this game. Beyond Brown, the only healthy running back is Maurice Morris.

Neither Brown, or Morris exactly strike fear in opposing defenses now, do they? Those defenses will never stack the box on the 30th ranked rushing team in the NFL. Not necessary at all.

The rather obvious solution would be to use the diminutive Stephan Logan in Best’s place in the backfield.

Logan, who is 5’ 6”, and weighs 180 pounds is a smurf who was picked up off the waiver wire from Pittsburgh. The second year player has shown some flashes of his speed and elusiveness as the new return specialist.

Is it time to see if Logan can provide the same spark as a running back? I think it is. Logan’s small stature would not be a detriment in filling in for Best. In fact, his being vertically challenged would be an asset when combined with his great speed.

Is this a crazy idea, or should Stephan Logan be given a shot to win the starting job?

After all is said and done, what do the Lions have to lose?
