That

actually breaks my heart. But it makes sense, based on how they’ve played as of late.

by Lions & Panthers Fan on Nov 25, 2010 5:17 PM EST reply actions

Ship'em out of town.

I’d rather they get blown out and play with effort than come out EVERY DAMN GAME in the second half and look like they could give a shit. No sacred cows on a squad that’s won 2 games all year.

I believe it, Corey.

Some of them have been around for years and years too.

CB in the first round for sure.

i bet houston gets shipped out for a 2nd-3rd round pick (yea, i think hes played good enough to warrant a second or third rounder.

by miblue on Nov 25, 2010 6:53 PM EST reply actions

Why would we ship Houston away?

He has been our best most consistent CB in a long time.

agreed, only if you can finesse a no-brainer deal.

if dude is a problem in the lockerroom as its been implied, what do you do with him?

by miblue on Nov 26, 2010 12:38 AM EST up reply actions

Sure they do

Because they don’t get off the ball for shit.

The reason Williams has so many offsides penalties is because he’s trying to make a play. Doesn’t excuse it, but I’d rather have a player trying to force the issue than one letting the play happen to them.

we need houston bad without him lions would get blown out in first quarter

by Dan Dman on Nov 25, 2010 7:13 PM EST reply actions

I belive

Corey plays hard every down. Penalyies or not. Sometimes iw onder just how " into it" are guys like JP who rarely does a damn thing. The B part is Corey will probably get chewed out for telling the truth. Were a good team but i don’t think all 53 are giving it all.

Did I mention..I love the Phonz!

when you have 2 wins and the season's gonna be winding down soon

guys like Williams should be able to air out the underachievers on the squad. I’d give him a pass, but if I were coach, I’d prefer things like that go unsaid…

Needs to stay in house

Coreys earned the right over the years to adress these issues

I don't like it

I think when the team starts turning on each other. It’s the beginning of the end…

Handle that crap privately..

Schwartz has to rein this in or he will lose this team and they are going to stop believeing, if they haven’t already..

by Spider1 on Nov 25, 2010 7:50 PM EST reply actions

Your right.

I bet Schwartz will turn this around. Take this negative energy thing and make it into a vendetta against Chicago. If not then it will get worse. If he loses the team then he’s done as a coach and I think he is too good to let that happen.

by coolbreeze42 on Nov 26, 2010 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

Believe me, Chicago should be the Lions' number one adversary

They have injured Stafford two seasons straight and caused him to miss double digit games… and they flat out stole the game we played against them earlier in the year.

Fuck the Bears. I hope the Lions come at them with everything possible.

And Sweetness

Never scored in the Bowl!

F-K THE BEARS!@#

CLF was right. Stanton should be starting, and Hill can’t do anything until he’s behind in the fourth quarter.

by Mavyrk on Nov 26, 2010 9:59 PM EST up reply actions

How great would it be

The bears are down 6 with 20 seconds left. Cutler puts it up to knox..Deep deep deep the ball is picked by Alphonso smith and returned 89 yards for a game ending TD…Not saying it will happe but it would be a sweet win.

Did I mention..I love the Phonz!

Uh oh...

Not a good sign. I’d like to know who he thinks doesn’t play their heart out, because I haven’t noted it.

Sadly for the past year or so I think one of those players is Calvin

He never appears fired up and has yet to truly impose his will onto someone. He just goes through the motions. If anyone thinks otherwise I challenge them to show me an instance where he played with a passion.

I have a horrible memory but off the top of my head...

He dove for that pass on the sidelines a few weeks ago that hurt his shoulder which was all out

He played with said hurt shoulder and seems to have a rep for playing hurt

He had like 4 targets against the Jets and didn’t cry at all like any other receiver would have even though Burleson had a stellar day and the media went through all their “Revis Island” bullcrap again.

He is an elite WR who has every reason in the world to try all out and be the biggest fish in a small pond otherwise if he slacks off at all on a bad team like this he has no chance at all of ever becoming a pro bowl or hall of fame receiver

By your definition, Barry Sanders wouldn’t be particularly “passionate” either

When they throw the ball high to him, he makes the play or at least lays out trying…when he is under-thrown or not on the same page as the QB, he looks embarrassed but he doesn’t throw anyone under the bus for it.

I just think he is a guy like Barry Sanders a little bit who has otherworldly talent, apparently has great work ethic, and plays a position that allows him to shine a lot, but also “disappear” if the ball doesn’t come his way or the environment is such that the opponent takes him out of the game.

As far as leadership skills go, he doesn’t appear to be among the league leaders at the WR position, but it could be a whole lot worse at that position…

i wouldn't call barry a passionate player

he quit on this team. he may have loved the game to an extent and he was amazing at it but how can someone say he was passionate when he quits only a season or so shy of the all time rushing record.

Suh for DROY!

by joecool5672 on Nov 26, 2010 12:57 AM EST up reply actions

Because he was sick

of terrible ownership, coaching, losing, etc. He was sick of the organization and he realized it is a shitty organization run by a bunch of fucking retards and that he will never win anything as long as he was a part of it. I would have done the same. He should have won multiple super bowls with his talent but a team could never be built around him because this organization is a bunch of LOSERS and it seems as if it will never change

by ImPuLsE on Nov 26, 2010 1:00 AM EST up reply actions

losers that damn near made the playoffs before he left

all im saying about barry is when you have the vision and elusiveness that he had, to leave it all on the table takes you out of the discussion for the all time best. i think he is no question if he gives it another few years. and it didn’t have to be with the lions. if he was so sick of losing he could have left or demanded a trade in the 10 years he was here. and just like barry, calvin has all the tools he could ask for. he is a giant, speedy, incredibly athletic ball hawk but he still, even with the stats leaves something to be desired. i think he could be better. not saying he isn’t very good or a pro bowler even. he is! in fact i was saying people are stupid to want to trade him! i was probably incorrect in thinking that corey was calling out calvin because calvin has more talent in one finger but to me he is the epitome of our team. a team with talent that just doesn’t have the last ounce of effort/passion needed.

Suh for DROY!

He loved football so much

That he quit because the Ford family was worried more about balancing the books and turning profit, than about owning a good football team.

That’s passion.

CLF was right. Stanton should be starting, and Hill can’t do anything until he’s behind in the fourth quarter.

he is jacked when he makes plays... CJ is a quiet person to begin with, are you implying cause he doesnt act like moss or TO he isnt giving his all

thats some BS calling out CJ are you for real

Keep Linny and Gunny.

We need to change the face of the franchise from a glass shoulder QB to a proven, experienced head coach that is going to demand better from his team. That is going to demand better from the NFL and their refs.

I agree with everyone else who's already replied to you.

CJ gets the attention from Defenses and analysts alike for a reason: He plays with heart, he’s an athlete, and he always gives his all. He may not get stellar stats every game, but that’s probably because he’s drawing double coverage from good defenders. You’ll usually see Nate with better statistical games on days like that.

Don’t start attacking our superstars!

by coolbreeze42 on Nov 26, 2010 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Having been to a couple of games this year

and obviously watching every other week on TV, I can’t agree. When you’re there, you can see the coverage in the secondary much better. CJ gets coverage rolled to his side of the field on virtually every play and when they don’t there’s a good chance that the ball is coming his way. To say that he hasn’t imposed his will on anyone is kind of crazy. There’s not much a WR can do except go out and run great routes and hope the ball gets thrown his way. I agree that he needs to be looked for more often, even if he is covered, but QB’s are taught to throw to the open/hot receiver. CJ is always in the game, always running his routes. If you want him to act out, and act like an idiot like other WR’s in this league, that’s your opinion. I for one, am happy that we don’t have a WR that has to put up the first down sign after every caught ball. We’re jus going to continue to disagree I’m sure, but I did want to put in my thoughts.

my issue is with byrant johnson

two or three times this season when i see the ball heading his way i know hes not going to catch it. he just looks like mike williams when hes out there, i just dont think he can catch a football.

by lionsfaninohio on Nov 25, 2010 10:23 PM EST reply actions

fantastic!

This is what this team needs. Vocal leaders that are going to call players out. Players with enough passion and a desire to win so strong, they will look across the locker room, look in a friends eyes and tell him. You are not getting it done. It might hurt some relationships but this is a job for these guys. This is a mans game and a game of inches. Some one needs to step up and hold players accountable. I love that it is a passionate, experienced and hard working player that truly wants to win.

Corey. You just became my favorite player. The detroit lions need you more than we will ever know.

Bye Bye Schwartz. Sooner or later, you are gone. Preferably sooner.

I have always liked CW

and if some players are just here for a paycheck. Than get the fuck out. We need players.

Personally I would rather see Corey do this in the locker room or privately with the particular players.

What he just did is more for show than results IMO. Unless he has already tried the quiet approach and sees that it is not getting any change in behaviour. Then fine, call the guy out.

Overblown story

Lions are busting their ass every week, they got their ass kicked in the fourth quarter by Tom Brady. Last time I checked he won three super bowls and has played in four. He is a Hall of Fame Quarterback who adjusted his game in the second half. Football Hoodie Bellicheck made halftime reads on the Lions secondary and shit happens. It’s called losing. I am eternally grateful for Chris Houston and Alphonzo Smith. If we had Jonathan Wade starting we would have been down 30-0 in the first quarter like the past two years. Go Lions!

I agree with some of what you say, but not enough to rec.

I see a lot of effort by the Lions, but I can’t say that everyone is working as hard as they can. There are definitely guys who did not get the job done the last few weeks and the D Line is near the top of the list. The Linebackers, whoever the hell they are, are at the top. They don’t blitz, they don’t cover, they don’t tackle runners……what the hell are they doing out there?
