Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

Random thoughts

A proposed return date for Stafford is against Miami, I'm in favor of this.   Why if they didn't think he could come back then why didn't they IR him.   I thinks it's more about proving to the team that he is the guy to lead this team next year and years to come.   If he can get through 2 games healthy might bring the team together along with luring in FA in the offseason.   If he doesn't play then the entire team will have that doubt he will ever be healthy including FA.

Why start Stanton now, I wanted him to get the start in Bufflo.   Starting him now proves what, if he starts and plays well that proves what,  a adduiton for him for his next team.   I'm sorry Schwartz didn't think he was good enough to play and put in a hurt Hill to do nothing the entire game.   I'd rather see a hurt Hill then a healthy Stanton because he's gone at the end of the season no matter what happens.   If the FO thought he had a future here he would of played sooner.

Start playing some backup line men that might have a future here, Fox, Mcdonald.   We need to start bringing in some new line men so we might as well know who have a future here.   Peterman could very well be cut in the offseaon or demoted to Backup.   Fox was drafted for a reason, I'm not saying start him but put him in for some clean up work and see if he worth keeping.

I'd like to see a RB brought in a get a large amount of playing time, since we signed Morris and used him horribly through out his time here.   In hindsight sight he should of been playing all year along with Best instead of Smith.   Brown even should maybe get and start with a chance to get 10 to 15 carries in one of the last few games.

These last games should be about seeing who will be with us next year, O-line needs alot of help, probably more help then our secondary.   Keep A-smith as a starter and see how he responds, yes he's better at nickel back, but injuries happen so keep him out there and see if he's worth building up as a project with a possibility at spot starting in the future.

This offseaons along with the 2011 season will be the most important since our time we had a winning season, we have most of the pieces for a winning team.   If we blow up next year like this year our FO will probably be torn down again, I'm not in favor of this.   We need to know who is gonna help this team in 2011 and give some of the players who have a shot with us next year some playing time....

This offseason will be important

Especially since I believe we are about 5 solid players away from being truly competitive, and by that I mean with an eye for the playoffs.

RIP Robyn Bailey 1961 - 2010. I love you mum.

yeah, 5 sounds about right

If we come away from the offseason with serious upgrades of…

2 outside linebackers
1 cornerback
1 center
1 #3 wideout

…who we can expect to be ready to compete right away (FA pickups, trades, and higher-round draft picks), I don’t see any real immediate holes on the roster.

Hey that's a timeout, I can play right? yeah, get me--get the F-- Help me up...I can throw the ball if you need me to throw the ball...

Schwartz said he will not plug in backups just for experience

Hate it if you want but his theory is were in the buisness of winning games and he will play the guys that give us the best chance…Can’t blame him for trying to win when were 2-9

Did I mention..I love the Phonz!

by The Profiler on Nov 30, 2010 8:41 PM EST reply actions

I agree

This league is all about winning games. A coach should put the players in the game that he thinks gives them the best chance to win. Anything else would be ludicrous.

by sthelen_45 on Dec 2, 2010 9:12 AM EST up reply actions

So being 2-9 he thinks he doesn't have to look at our back-ups.

He fits our MO just fine………………

Nothing to see here………………

by msivits on Nov 30, 2010 8:46 PM EST reply actions

He sees them everyday

He has tape on 53 men if he thinks they should play he will play them..I don’t think he’s gonna throw in the towel though and just start playing backups for the hell of it.

Did I mention..I love the Phonz!

Hell, we still have starters...

…who JS needs to figure out if they deserve to be back or not.

by Thorpac on Nov 30, 2010 9:40 PM EST reply actions

Stanton is going to start now, because Hill can't...

That is…if he doesn’t play with a broken index finger on his throwing hand.

I love Dirty Work...it is a classic in my mind...:o)

It's a terrible thing to have to tell your fans, who have waited like Detroit's have, that their team won't win it this year. But it's better than lying to them.

There are a handful of guys that i would sit...

One would be Peterman another would be Peterson the only problem is i don’t think that there is a player on the roster that could out play them at there position. A player that has me scratching my head is Phillips, where the hell is he.

Greenway, Rudd, Harris, Stewart and Posluszny are going to be big names on the open market at linebacker and i seriously believe at least one of them will be w/ the Lions next year. I would take anyone of them over Greg Jones or any other LB coming out in the draft next year. I also think that Detroit needs to move Levy back to OLB, KVB was the top target for us this year next year hands down it has to be Greenway. I think this signing alone makes the Lions top 10 in the league for D and it also makes it easier to attract guys like Harris, Rudd, Stewart and Posluszny.

The secondary, it has improved but not alot of big names on the market next year. The biggest would be Johnathan Joseph who i would love on the team but think Detroit pays more attention to those LB’s, which alot of other teams will be doing as well. Outside of Joseph you have safeties Quintin Mikell, Dashon Goldson and Eric Weddle once again the signing of Greenway will attract other FA’s and hopefully it will be Mikell. Adding Prince or Peterson to the team i think moves us into the top 5 D’s of 2011, that is if they gel together nicely in camp and preseason.

The offense is pretty much set at the skill positions, my only arguement would be a guy that can pound the rock not Felton, Morris or Smith either. Interesting thing to watch for is to see if Detroit resigns Scheffler? Will Heller either put him at fullback or start him at TE his blocking is far to important to not have him be apart of the offense. Speaking of blocking there is a lack of in Detroit, hitting the market next year Logan Mankins, Davin Joseph, Marcus McNiell and Jared Gaithers. Mankins would be automatic but i am for Joseph and considering that our offense looks more promising than the Buc’s we may have a taker. Plus signing him would be alot cheaper than Mankins and allow us to go after McNiell or Gaither.

Summary:

Cut ties w Peterson, welcome the future (Greenway). Move Levy to OLB place Follett back on ST, sign Rudd, Harris, Stewart or Posluszny. Sign Mikell, Weddle or Goldson, cut CC, Wesley and all others not named Delmas or Spievey. Draft Prince or Peterson in the first round.

Gandy, Raiola and Peterman cut, traded, released or whatever. Sign Davin Joseph and Marcus McNiell, push Backus inside or to the right tackle or see if he can hike the ball anything that he can do has to be better than Raiola. 2nd round hope and play like hell that Pouncey falls into our laps in the second if not move up again into the first and get him. Third round, i like Moffitt out of Wisconson think that he can come in and start also think that David Molk is worth keeping an eye on, one of the last Carr recruits left on the line.

Sorry i rambled on for so long and took up all the damn space on your posting…

whats your plan if we dont get Greenway.... Levy needs to stay in the middle so follett stays and then we get one of the other LBs

Levy is our MLB

I dno’t know why everyone questions it. Just like Mathew. When he is healthy he IS the starter for the foreseeable future.

Levy is better suited to play OLB.

So if given the chance to sign Rudd, Harris or Posluszny at MLB you’d pass for Levy.

huh?

I disagree fully.

Despite the injuries… Levy has been pretty solid at the mike position.

by CLF on Dec 1, 2010 3:05 PM EST up reply actions

No one said he hasn't played solid.

I said he is better at OLB and reguardless of his injuries his stats and production is not close to Rudd or Harris maybe close to Posluszny. Its pretty close to comparing Levy to Follett, if you can upgrade at the LB position by signing a Posl, Rudd or etc why wouldn’t you move Levy back to the OLB.

It helps the team out at LB and special teams…

Levy needs to go back to OLB and Follett will stay on ST its the best position for both of them.

If we don’t get Greenway it changes nothing we still need to be aggressive in FA and do what it takes to better the team this year, not leaving huge holes to fill the following year.

+100 WftR!!

Deandre Levy is a very capable middle linebacker to say the least. When he’s healthy he has displayed playmaking ability along with leadership and consistency. I am all for adding LB’s on the outside.

Is Levy a better MLB than Rudd, Harris or Posluszny.

I don't think RB is the issue

I really dont… I think any of Best/Smith/Mo could be 1000 yard guys given starters carries, but our line is still not what it needs to be.

I am on board with an offseason menu of two LBs, 2 DBs, 2 OL and a K…. then the rest of the FA/Draft pick ups for depth

I will give you that, Smith could pound the rock if the oline was better as well as Morris and Best

The only thing Smith can pound is sand!

This guy falls down if the wind blows. Trade him and get some young legs in there.

LOL… how old do you think Smith is?
