Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Don't give up on #9 yet

Yesterday's game was probably the most painful in recent memory, and once again, Matt Stafford is down again with a shoulder injury.  I was watching the game yesterday with my brother and i was noticing, prior to his injury, how he seemed to be favoring his throwing shoulder.  There were times i saw that his arm was definitely "drooping" lower than his non throwing arm.  What i'm trying to say is that i do not believe he was healthy enough to come back in the first place.  I believe he came back way too soon, and that after what happened yesterday he is probably gonna be done for the season.

Do whatever it takes to resolve this issue.  The organization should take control and make sure he is 100 percent before we see him again, even if that's next year. It worked for Bradford.

Just my opinion...

I don't think sitting out for 7 weeks can be considered coming back way too soon.

Especially considering he was suited up and drooling to play before that. I don’t think there’s any evidence to support that he was rushed back into action. If they were in the habit of doing that, I think we would have seen Levy weeks ago. CC Brown would have played this week. The issue isn’t the treatment of injuries, its that he gets injured in the first place.

It's turkey, Lions and Macy's. Any other combination is just ludicrous.

Levy

actually did come back too early, tried to play against the Vikes and re-aggravated his groin AND sprained his ankle.

I think it is clear that Stafford was playing in pain through the last 2 games. He was slow to get up from several hits that appeared to be on his shoulder. I think he probably made the decision to come back when Hill went down and he’s been hearing all this stuff in the media about being a China Doll. Once a joint is damaged, it becomes easier to reinjure—like ankles, knees, shoulders—unless long recovery periods are allowed. We had to take a risk and beat the Skins and Jets as our season was on the line. My feeling is that Staff is going to get shut down for the year. He’ll be back next year—just like Bradford came back from 2 dislocations. From what a read a Grade 3 A-C separation should not require surgery.

I think he came back at the perfect time.

In time to orchestrate the implosion of Washington. If he had never came back, we probably wouldn’t have won that game, and we defiitely would have been bad this one.

We

Don’t even know if what he took today was an AC separation. Relax on that for a day or two.

by Mavyrk on Nov 8, 2010 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

I am aware of that.

I am also aware that he had 2 of them. one on each shoulder. and likely another one.

What comes to mind is

Drew Brees. The Chargers traded him because they never thought that he would be an elite QB because he had a bad injury to his throwing shoulder. Well all I have to say is how many superbowls has Phillip Rivers won in San Diego. We need to wait this out, Stafford is a tough kid he will do whatever it takes to get 100% whether it be this year or this off season. I mean it was a good thought to think that the lions could still make the playoffs this year, but was a little far fetched. We are literally one draft and a good free agent aquisition from being an elite team. Just give it time It is just hard because we lost a close one to the Jets. We wouldnt be this upset if it were the lions of the past because they woudnt have been this close to beating the Jets or any other team this season aside from the Redskins

I agree

I totally agree with everything you said. It was far fetched to consider making the playoffs this year, but next year we should be contending. I know we are 2 good players away from becoming the best team in the North.

Some REAL info

AC sprains of grade 1 or 2 need to me immobilized for 2 to 3 weeks..Heres the intresting part normally surgery isn’t required for a grade 3 sprain UNLESS it dosen’t heal properly. 4,5,and 6 Grades do require surgery. To my knowledge Matt has never had surgery. Bradford did.

Did I mention..I love the Phonz!

My orthopaedic surgeon said you 'technically don't need the AC joint'

Some old peoples’ get so arthritic they just cut the clavicle off completely. Do think they do that for athletes, if does serve some mechanical/protective purpose I’m sure. Hurt mine pretty bad wrestling in college. It healed eventually after a couple months and doesn’t hurt 10 yrs later but still grinds a little.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But, rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "WOW - WHAT A RIDE"

My bad I meant SC joint

Sternoclavicular joint, the AC is very important to motion of the shoulder

Patience is the key here

He’ll be fine.

Guys, it will pay to be patient here. And I'm sure the Lions will.

I know this is just over nine quarters of football but Stafford has led the Lions to ten red zone trips for nine TDs and one FG. And that is against the Bears, Redskins, and Jets; three of the better defences in the NFL.

This team is a lot better with him in the lineup.

100% agreed

Too bad it is only for a game or two here or there.

DrewsLions was right and I was wrong. Stafford did in fact post a QB rating better than 89.7, he put up a 90.2 rating. I have not been happy about being wrong in so long!

Our options?

Outside of wait and see, not very good.

by NorthLeft12 on Nov 8, 2010 9:12 PM EST up reply actions

I am at a loss here

To see his progress when he is not even out there playing with any consistency. The kid has IT, what ever IT is. All that talent wrapped in a cardboard box body.

Put him on IR or at least sit him for the rest of the season and heal up right. Give him one more go next year fully healed and pray to god he has just been unlucky. That is all we have here. His contract is going to be prohibitive for the next 4 years, severely limiting our cap space. If he does not pan out. We are FUCKED! You can’t pay two QBs starters money and have any depth in this league. It just does not happen. This is why that rookie salary scale is so fucked. If he busts. We are boned financially.

I just don’t know. This situation is every fans nightmare, every teams worst dream and every capologist’s boiling coffee enema all wrapped into one.

He injures something different.

And he isn’t ruled out for next game.

And your opinion is “throw him on IR”?

That is extremism.

by Mavyrk on Nov 8, 2010 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

He is not going to be playing this next game and more than likely not the rest of the season.

Yeah toss him on the IR. Let him heal than rehab the hell out of both of his shoulders. Lift some weights, do some cardio, lose the baby fat around the waist and tighten everything up. I know it sounds crazy but muscle does protect you when you are hit. More than a little party time chub around the waist.

That you know a lot more now than you did when you wrote that post.

agreed

and I do not feel like that I was wrong then either. Sit him and let him heal properly.

I plan to be patient and optimistic......it gets me through life.

I was concerned about what I saw from Staff last year regarding his judgement and accuracy. I put it down to him being a very young rookie and the total lack of talent around him. This year, I have seen a huge improvement in every facet of his game.

He is still only 22 years old. Build up the rest of the team and let Matthew fight his way through these injuries.

this year?

You have watched him play two and a half games.

how long do you wait?
