Sorry guys! I totally jinxed Jason last week when I posted comments about maybe looking at bringing in a second kicker to handle our kick-offs... in particular I mentioned Steve Hauschka whom we were using in the pre-season. I had been pretty frustrated with our opponents starting position and hadn't seen Jason send a kick-off into the endzone all year. Then after their opening TD drive against the Jets, just like Jason had read my post, he booted one in to the endzone. I was elated! He actually nailed two and the Jets didn't get great starting position on any kick-offs. I don't think Pryce falling on Hanson was a cheap shot at all I was horrified to see him go down. Watching Harris kick-off gave me that same feeling I get when Stanton runs out on the field after one of our QB's has been injured.
Anyway, I hope this setback is not the end for Hanson. I love the dude. If we decide to pick up a new kicker I just hope it's someone with accuracy for field goals and that can send some touch-backs.One thing I've noticed about the Lions this year is that we're not having to kick too many long field goals. We're not getting trapped in the 32-38 yard line which is great. We're getting to the red-zone pretty frequently and scoring TD's when we get there. So I'm thinking someone with a booming leg might be just as important as accuracy.
Get well soon, Jason!
