Hey Drew... Ya wanna 2nd Contract?
Alright... I'll admit, I'm not drinking Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid anymore. I've Switched to the Blue Raspberry 4 Lokos
What if Shaun Hill was the "Leader" that Corey Williams and Chris Houston were calling out? This "Broken Index Finger" came out of Nowhere. I know the Offensive production decreased in the 2nd half of last weeks game. But it did not look like Hill was playing with a Broken Index Finger!
What if Hill is the one who has lost the team, A couple of Defensive players had to be the ones to call him on it, because, our Offense, as a whole is Unified. But If Shaun is the one that can't Lead the Team.... Then he has to go.
Schwartz notices this, and places Hill on IR with a phantom broken Index finger.
Stanton is pretty much Hamburger to this team right now, (cheap Meat)
But if, Drew can come in and win 2 home games against the Bears and Pack. Then take that momentum and turn it into a Road win against the Bucs, He may just be more valuable to this team than Hill.
Then we can trade Hill and his extension back to SF for a 3rd rounder.
(I have been drinking 12% Blue Malt Beverage)

Droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.................................
When we spent a number 2 on Stanton I was really excited. I liked his toughness in Spartan Land and though we had done really well. Unlike a Disney story, his career hasn’t worked out that way.
I would definetly take Stanton over JT or Mccown, both of whom I’ve seen play before. I would hold on our QB’s and not pick one up. We already picked up a young guy, Let’s play what we have.
I personally belive that Stanton has as good an arm as Hill. He is a good athalete and I would expect him to play as a runner just as often as a thrower. I would even like to see the wildcat (single wing) with him at QB. With our top two running backs injured Stanton has to rank as one of the best runners on the team. He may not run as well as Ronnie Brown (I said may) but he can sure throw better.
I am happy to see Drew play. I am hoping he plays well. If Detroit wins, I’m lovin’ it.
If they cut me, I bleed Honalulu blue and silver.
Same here
I was excited that Lions drafted him and disappointed how has career has been with them so far. I really think that this is basically going to be a try out for him to show off for other teams. I dont think he will want to re-sign to be a 3rd string in Detroit. He is in a Dan Orlovsky situation where he can showcase what he has for the rest of the season and try to sign a good deal as a backup somewhere.

one point
It’s not really a compliment to suggest drew’s arm is as good as Hill’s.
i think everyone in the reading audience has as strong an arm as Hill, if not stronger.
Hill is a finess thrower
He uses skill to get the ball where it has to go. Often in beautiful arcs that are always spirals. Just because he does not have a cannon for an arm does not mean he lacks strength. He just plays a different sort of game. Frankly, Stafford could learn something from him. Not every pass needs to break the speed of sound on its way to the receiver.

Thats why Brett Favre was such a succesful passer
He can break his WR fingers with his throws, or throw them a beautiful finesse ball

hate to say anything positive about Farve but he new the difference
by the situation if a rocket or a touch pass was needed.

Hope your not insinuating that Stafford doesnt know the difference because IMO
The little time that we saw Stafford I saw a wider array of thows than the first year and he was showing the ability to know when finesse or laser guided rocketry was needed. He does throw the bubble screens a little flat but that could be due to RBs working with Hill who was always has that arc, but stafford throws more of a dart and RBs just dont get there head around
Matthew Stafford, Quarterback: a man barely alive, Gentlemen we can rebuild him, We have the technology, We have the capability to make the worlds first bionic QB, Matthew Stafford will be that man, Better than he was before
Better, Stronger, Faster
I am not insinuating, I am saying he does not know the difference yet, IMO
Yet is the key word. He still relies on his rocket launcher of an arm more often than not but he did slow small glimpses of improvement in this area during his limited playing time this season. This is one of the common learning curves for young strong armed QB in the NFL. It takes time.

Unfortunetly
This game will tell the tale of Drew’s future.
Too bad it comes against the Bear’s D. It would be wonderful
if he performed well but, It ain’t the 4th quarter of a pre-season game.
I have to reconsider keeping Calvin on my fantasy team this week.
Thoughts?
Expectations don't produce!
Stanton likes to throw bombs to Calvin
Which either ends in a pick or a 89 Yd TD. So its your call.
"Winning is not everything. It is the only thing."
If you are willing to keep CJ with Hill as your QB
then you mine as well keep him with Stanton as your QB.
Like the previous poster said, at least with Stanton you are guaranteed to get CJ the ball at least consistently through 4 quarters (whether they be wild attempts or not, the ball will be thrown in his direction for CJ to make a play on it). Unlike Hill, where he won’t throw to CJ for over +10 yards down the field until the dying minutes of the game.

In between the Corner and Saftey
It was a great pass.

I'm getting more excited to see the guy play as the week goes on.
It started out as me tweaking CLF over his excessive Vanilla Vick love, but this guy’s situation epitomizes the whole M****m clusterfuck situation here in Detroit.
The O.C. hated him, they trade up to get him, no one wanted him, they buried him under a rock and insulted him. Screw that shit, I love underdogs, and I’m going to pull my guts out rooting for him on Sunday. I’m glad he’s getting a chance in front of the home crowd before we ship him out of town.
I could care less if they lose on Sunday as long as they don’t quit, so what does V.V. have to lose? Just go out and play his game.
The only legend around here is the one that exists in your own mind.
When they told Marinelli who was in the process of game planning for DET, who was starting on Sunday.
He looked up and his asked, “Who?”.
Then they pulled out the film on Stanton for him, and afterwords Marinelli started preaching about keeping a low pad level to get under the clipboard, because Stanton likes to hold the board low.
The only legend around here is the one that exists in your own mind.

He might well get more protection
using that clipboard to beat bear lineman over the head than he will out of Dom or Peterman. :)

I would love
To see stanton tear that D apart..Why becuase wether you like stanton or not..When Marenelli said " he will embarass himself" that was being a bad coach..I’d love to see stanton embarass him by getting beat by a 3rd string QB.
Did I mention..I love the Phonz!
leave it to CLF to remember exactly who was quoted saying that. lol
I like Cheese and I also Like Cookies. If you don't. Wow. :P
Colletto is a tool.
That’s why I remember.
He thought he was hot shit after Martz got fired…. talkin’ about poundin’ the rock and fully concentrating on the Running game….LMAO, yeah, that turned out well.

You forgot about Zippy WhotheFuck. The co-passing portion of the offense coordinator.
That struck fear into opposing D’s for sure.

oh, yeah....
The QB coach/passing play coordinator…. what a fucked up situation that was… perfect to groom a young QB…lol

if you quit the koolaid, i suggest you put the fatty down also.
If drew wins two home games, I will walk to where ever that lion fan walked from to allen park….
If he stays upright for those two games, i will call that success.

and then
I had hopes for him too – as with many Millen’s picks, his bio was good and rated pretty fairly by the experts..
but
why he really hasn’t seen the field with any of these dreadful teams, just makes me doubtful he’ll be the answer. I’d rather have a crafty vet come in and manage a few games missed by injuries, and the third guy be developmental (by that I mean young in 1st or 2nd yr.. not 4th yr)
He is mobile which will be a plus since we saw what Peppers did to Matt, and the Giants did to Hill.
He does throw it up and can run- so we’ll see.
my 2 cents

On the other hand...
This game against the Bears will likely show all Drew Stanton supporters what we’ve been saying all along. He isn’t the hidden gem they think he is. Shaun Hill isn’t the guy they were calling out.
USE THE SCHWARTZ!!!
Drew is an interesting x factor
I believe this guy can do a lot more than other people believe. Traditionally athletic, or scrambling based quarterbacks take a lot longer to develop than pocket passers. Mainly it is because they have more tools to work with and therefore have more to process and digest mentally on any given play.
This also leads to a tendency for them to get sacked more if they lack the ability to make plays down field. Perfect examples of this are guys like Michael Vick. He has all of the talent in the world but he also tends to rely on that, which means he will hold the ball longer and try to buy time with his feet, which means he will run into some sacks that other quarterbacks would throw the ball away on, or scramble for a 2 yard gain.
Aaron Rogers is an example of a guy in transition on this. He held the ball too long last year, but this year is tending to get rid of it more or find a way to make the plays down field.
Either way though there are examples of guys like this in the past, that were more athletic than talented passers. They always take a bit longer to develop. From our own Shaun Hill to Steve Young, to Vince Young the examples are there to support the idea.
The real key in their development is coaching which would seem obvious, but let me digress a little here. With a guy that has legs like this you do not build an offensive scheme that relies on him making 3-4 reads per play. In my opinion this is where Lions coaching has failed him in the past. You cannot expect Drew Hill to step in and do what Matt Stafford, or even Shaun Hill at this point in his career can do.
No instead you build him up slowly and let him rely on his legs. You give him very little to think about and let him focus on simple decisions. Pre snap he has a pass or run option, that should be basic for every quarterback. Post snap you give him 2 reads then run. Most coaches will limit an early guy to only reading half or the field as well. So you may give him a sideline read, then an underneath in the middle read, if neither is there he runs.
I know it will limit the offense, and many of you may feel that Drew has the mental ability at this point in his career to do more. On game film, on the sidelines, and in practice I would agree. However he simply does not have the actual in game live reps to put him there. Therefore I feel the Lions, and Drews best chance of success is to limit him and focus on getting positive yardage plays.
A lot is riding on this for Drew, I hope he does well.
