Give that man a new contract....
Suck it, Stanton haters!
Week after week... I've had to deal with you... and week after week, I have pointed out that using stanton's past production with a shitty 0-16 type roster was assnine... but still you all kept railing on him.
Finally, Stanton's true clutch gamer play has shown through to Lead Detroit on a monkey killing streak....
No Divisional wins in 19 games... gone.
No Road Wins 26 games... gone.
No back to back wins since 2007... gone.
The real question that should be asked this offseason is.... Can the Lions get some value for Shaun Hill? Or will Stanton leave for a more lucrative contract?
Later,
CLF

Development
Would like to see more from the throwing department, but he was clutch today. Passer rating was nearly 100. Think we can keep all 3? Let Hill and Stanton battle it out for backup?
Oh Yeah!!!
LOL
Trade Hill, sign Stanton for sure.

Ugly fucken gamer.......That's his history.
He just needs a little game time.

I bashed Stanton plenty and never thought he had it in him, but I’m glad to be wrong in this instance.

And that awesome game at home against the JETS. CLF If it wasn’t for Megatrons ability to stretch like plastic man and still keep his feet in bounds you would have NO WATER in your bucket right now. Stanton is nothing more than a clip board holder no matter what team he plays for, If you like you can call him Charlie Batch, cause that’s all he is good for as well.
How many lumps you want Doc?
Nah, he connected to Calvin quite a bit, time after time. Put together two solid wins.
No time outs and he managed the clock very well. The numbers do not lie on Drew Stanton. He deserves respect for what he’s done so far. I wanted to whack him with a bat after that Jets game, but I’ll take 2-1 from Detroit’s 3rd stringer.

Stanton is more than welcome to be our 3rd QB next year!
He’s proven himself for sure.
Great job today Lions!
Just livin' the dream...
Nothing like showing class when your proven right.
I am glad to see Stanton come through. also, Morris really showed why the Bucs were rated #32 against the run. Great last drive by CJ via great passes by Stanton.
Stafford needs a vetrean keep Hill. But Stanton’s contract is up and will probably get some nice offers other places.
suhtastic
i doubt he will be offered a backup role with anyone (2nd string)
He is a good NFL 3rd stringer, so we should keep him. He knows the offense, has roots here, and is good to have for insurance.
It was 3rd & 7; Delhomme dropped to pass
"Man, I hope, I don't get knocked on my ass"
He felt twisting and clawing, "When will it stop?"
Then SUH ripped his head off, like a bottle of pop!!
Yeah, I'm a Lions fan
actually, look for martz to try and make a play for stanton during the offseason
remember, he was very high on him when they picked him in the second round
Life is being on the wire, everything else is just waiting.
i think that was sarcasm
since martz made him change his mechanics and messed him up

If you are referring to Maurice Morris or Scott Linehan I agree 100%.
Look, I am very appreciative of Drew’s efforts this year. But where does he fit into the Lions plans in the future? As the third string or 2B string QB?
I have no problem keeping him as the second or third string QB. Frankly, if the NFL goes to an eighteen game schedule I think you could make a case to keep him and Hill. But I doubt that is what Stanton wants. The guy, with good reason, thinks he can play in the NFL.
shit 3rd string QB is the way to go if your gonna get a decent contract

Stanton looks like he could be somebody's back up. Why would he want to be a third stringer here?
I don’t disagree with those that think the Lions might want to reevaluate who they want for their second string QB. But not now. After the season is over and you can look at everything without emotion.
Having said that, hats off to Drew for a really great effort today. If he does this next week and the week after then Mayhew and Schwartz have a tough decision ahead of them.

+1 Need to wait to evaluate
and we know Stanton said he doesn’t want to be a 3rd stringer. He’ll try to go elsewhere unless we make him #2. It’s not like Hill didn’t have games as good as this (and he never had a game as bad as last week). I like Stanton’s potential more than Hill (we know what we have in Hill) but it’s a risk. Unless he plays lights out next week against a 3-4 D, I don’t think you promote the dude.
RA
well Hill the first week had a QB rating of like 38.9 and Stanton last week had a 39.5 so Hill can play that bad

He looks like he could be somebody's backup
But I’d still be happy to have him be our third stringer nonetheless.
LOL>..
Sure… Keep the 1-7 Veteran who’s approaching 30 over a 4 year 2nd round pick who is 2-1.
COUGH… Millen… COUGH
Especially when you can get a decent pick for him.
Then never develop a younger QB, while letting one you did develop walk……..makes sense to me.
The only legend around here is the one that exists in your own mind.
Stanton's decision not Lions
Stanton will have to decide where he will play next year. It is slim that he will stay here to 3rd string. The Lions cannot trade Hill until they know for sure that Stanton would stay. He will likely try free agency just to see what offers he gets. I am glad to see him do well though. I thought he was another bad Milen pick.
Yum. Crow tastes just like chicken.
Sorry, but that was still a bad draft pick.
You don’t use second round picks on a third/second string QB. They should be starters in the NFL.
Only 1-7 with the Lions. He has a winning record with SF. I believe he was 10-6
I think Drew has a few more games to go yet. Though, he did look good today.

I understand your MAD love for the Sparty, it’s as bad as my MAD love for Brady cause he played for U of M. But how can you sit there and talk about Stanton being all that when he didn’t complete 1 pass for more than 15 yards downfield. As I recall his longest pass was for 13 yards to Megatron on a 3rd down. If he did complete a pass for more than 15 yards then it was the pass to MEGATRON who acted like plastic man on that final drive. You sit there and are acting like Stanton was the reason we won that game again. It had nothing to do with the fact that we ran the ball very good against the 32nd ranked D against the run who was playing without 3 of their starters at key positions. Stanton played well enough to win I’ll give you that but you are coming off as if he should be the starter for the Lions next year and that’s just nonsence, Stanton is what he is: a POOR mans version of Jeff Garcia, except Garcia could actually throw a spiral.
How many lumps you want Doc?

With a broken forearm. Stanton botched the Jets game something serious, but GB & TB were fantastic. I praise the team, refuse to bag on any of the 3 who’ve played QB here this season.

You don't need to be pretty to win in this league!
The kid has done his job, he’s tough and a heck of a gamer. If the guys believe in him, it’s all for the better!
Stanton won't leave
Hes from here the Lions are his team and he has sufered so much with team. Everyone knows this club is close to completly turning this thing around I will bet the farm that people like Drew, CJ and everyone else that has the oppertunity to leave within the next couple years is going to want a contract here first. Plus other free agents see whats going on and knows this is a fun team and they will want to be a part of it also.
Heres to a breakout 2011 season people….GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This guy can do it
Yet we still get to hear why Stanton shouldn’t even have a job here. Thankfully we don’t have a coach that can’t see a qb that just needs time to develop. Just like 90% of all the quarterbacks that play the game. Eat it haters.
Props to Maurice Morris who just keeps bringing it every game along with CJ, Nate and of course Stefan changed the game just by being himself by them keeping squibbin us into good field position. Thanks D for doin enough to make this streak continue… you know the winning one.
we need hill still..
drew looked good agenst the bucs and the bears.. 2 overrated team… sucked balls agenst the packers
he is a very good 3rd string though.. agubley the best in the nfl.. and better then alot of 2nd strings.. but hill is better then him

exactly what i was thinking
I thought i would be reading a post of calvin when i saw the topic…then I noticed it was CLF and knew it was gonna be a bunch of bull about Stanton.
He had a QB rating of 34 or something like that last week….2 in the first half! He is inconsistant. I might consider keeping him as a 3rd stringer, but i would like to see Stanton, Hill and Robinson next year
Now if I could just find a horribly inappropriate picture to post just for my best buddy CLF…I’m kidding by the way. No bad feelings. We can agree to disagree about Stanton.
Hill has finished a game this year with a worse rating than stanton so dont get to hot and bothered

No need to get carried away after a very nice win
I trusted the Coaches before the “winning streak” and still do .. Like our players and still do .. Stanton might not be as bad as we thought .. but he isn’t hot commodity all of a sudden :) .. No doubt he has improved and shown us something ..
Maybe its the system, coaches, play calling etc .. we do know that Linehan tweaked his system to suit Stanton .. Kudos . I didn’t like Linehans play calling in the 1st few games and he did frustrate me today with Best .. but in the end, he got it right and we won … If we had my way of play calling, (every play) I am sure we would have bean beaten mercilessly .. point is I can’t berate him for a couple of calls which didn’t work when a lot of em worked and we won
What I am saying is .. I trust mayhew and schwartz .. to do the right thing .. maybe they can develop stanton better than others did .. maybe they part ways …
Whatever happens .. I like the way this is going
Happy for Drew Stanton
i think he is going elsewhere next season as a result of his play. There is a dearth of backup qbs around the league right now and he is prob worth more to another team than he is to the Lions.
J P
Lots of guys need new contracts
Avril for example. It’s up to Drew I think. If he thinks he can get a better deal elsewhere, then good luck to him. If he wants to stay and fight for the backup job, then I’ll support him. He had a good game and should be commended for it.

Last week Stanton with his 39.4% passer rating was the best player in the league cause he beat down the Packers single handed without Rogers. And now this week Stanton is going to win the Presidency of the USA because he was completing the 5 yards passes that he is suppose to do even thou he couldn’t do that against the Packers.I was happy to see an EX-Buckeye playing well at OLB for us, 1 that was a former high fiorst round draft pick: good job Carpenter. Damn I think I just vomited in my mouth from saying that.

There's no way Drew signs here as a 3rd stringer.
He just led the Lions to wins over Green Bay and Tampa Bay. This is audition for a backup job somewhere else or maybe compete for a starter’s job on a team with an awful QB situation (Minnesota, for one).
Worried he will leave for a team that put him as a 2nd stringer?
He will get more starts as our #3 than he will as any other teams #2.
I bet he hopes he isn’t asked to be our #1. Death sentence for sure.
A little off topic, but...

But, no mention of Dave Rayner…..

True, where's the Rayner love?
dude made a couple of clutch end of game kicks in a packed, hostile environment with the entire stadium screaming at him. Let’s give the Kicker some props.
think there wasn't much rayner hate so this post is about all the dudes
who have been all over Stanton. It’s a shame.
Let's show some patience
one great game does not make a great player. This performance earns some major respect points in my book, but we definitely still need to see more out of him. Let’s keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of the credit for his one passing TD belongs to Nate Burleson, not him.
And before anyone jumps on my ass yelling “STANTON HATER!” please remember that this was one game, and declaring anyone a great, or even good player after a single performance is a little ridiculous. Yes, I have renewed faith in Drew, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.
by motown313 on Dec 20, 2010 2:21 AM EST reply actions 1 recs
I agree motown, but that is what we do as fans.
If you make a bad play or two, you are garbage and need to be benched or cut.
If you make a few plays, you are the saviour/beast who is going to dominate the league for the next ten years.
Drew has been all over the map in his three starts and two relief stints. The Giants game was the perfect example of his inconsistency. Great one play, terrible the next.
Yeah, call me a hater but I would rather have Shaun Hill as the Lions back up QB. For now, Drew is earning his pay, and then some, and deserves to continue starting IMO.
Personally i would rather watch a wobbly ball with velocity than a limp noodle lob....
I have real tough time watching Hill limp wrist it for 3-7 yds at the most. He like stanton have shown some pretty poor decision making. Hill is probably the better back up but damn he cant throw a ball worth a damn. I honestly feel like any throw over 8 yds is getting picked and that i could prolly take a shit while his ball is in the air. Im not saying Stanton is the backup of the future but im not sure if we should settle for Hill if something else came our way
