I sure hope I'm jumping to conclusion here, because it would be the end of an extremely admirable run for a top-notch player in the NFL. On my Facebook page, the Detroit Lions official page shared this article: Hanson Placed in Injured/Reserve
Maybe it's just protocol to hash over a player's entire career stats when they're placed on IR. Maybe they just really appreciate Jason. But some weird feeling I get tells me that article is a tell. Jason has had knee issues bugging him the last two or three years. Maybe he's decided since he couldn't make it through a season, it's time to call it a career.
Hopefully I'm overreacting, but just in case of Hanson's departure, what do we do? I don't even know if there's a good kicker in the draft. I know 50% of you will say 'you don't draft kickers', but to that I say 'We drafted Hanson, you damn slappy'. If not through the draft, do we swing a trade for a decent guy, or just hope that some rando falls into our laps and does decently? The one consistent spot on this team for the last 20 years has been #4, and I'd be a little more gloomy next season not seeing his bald head on the field.
