Does Anyone Remember Why?

I remember being pretty excited last offseason in the possibility of picking up Antonio Cromartie from SD. I thought he had shown interest in playing in Detroit, but I can't for the life of me remember why we didn't pursue him harder. It seems like he would have been a great pick up for us and if he played well, we might not need to pursue a CB in the 2011 draft.

As great as it would be to get Peterson in the draft, it's looking like we'll slip out of the top 5 and he'll most likely be gone. Our Secondary is still very vulnerable, but I am honestly feeling like our greatest need is at LB. I know we'll have Follet and Dizon back but I don't think they have enough experience to be considered a strong core. I would love to trade or pick up a great LB free agent if any are available. I am hoping we get rid of Julian and draft someone with a lot of promise.

Does anyone think that we should have picked up Cromartie when we had the chance? I know he's not Revis but he still would have added some experience and skill to the CB position. Are there any solid CB's we can pick up through free agency?

yes I remember why: he was similar to the players we cut

Doesn’t support the run game well (translation he’s a pu$$y)

I thought being lazy was a bad thing, So I gave up thinking.

Something about the Lions having to pay his late child support...

Whenever I get a trivia question that is.." His father was?"

I always answer Antonio Cromartie you have a 50/50 chance that your right.

Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Cannot coach with them. Can't do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win. - Mike Singletary

Amukamara is a pretty solid prospect too.

Possibly a better Corner than Peterson. I believe Peterson is a better all around athlete, but he may be better suited to be a Safety rather than a Corner.

Also, part of Peterson’s value is as a Punt returner. I don’t think it is very wise to have your shutdown Corner returning punts or kicks.

There are other very good Corner prospects this year that might be available in the second round.

I have been thinking about that too

Alot of the draft predictions I read mention his return skills, and I always think “who wants one of their core guys doing this?”

I agree about Prince

I think he would be a nice acquisition but I am just worried about having two young corners. Fonz will be in his third year and has shown great promise, but also has taken some big and costly gambles. Houston has been pretty good but will most likely be exploring different teams through FA. I would love to trade or pick up someone that the staff has worked with before. Something similar to how Jim went out and snagged KVB right off the bat. If we do this for CB or LB I will be very pleased. I think those are our biggest needs. I was happy when we drafted Spievey last year, but usually find myself cursing at him when he’s playing. I know he is a rookie and I need to give him a chance, but he just seems to take terrible angles and has missed SO many tackles (our teams Achilles heal!!!) I know he had a big pick against the Pack but that was LUCK! He was beat by a few steps and the ball just landed in his hands. 9/10 that would have been a TD for the Pack.

So.....what do the Lions do about the draft?

While the other 31 teams depend on the combine, we’ve been depending on the Heisman ceremony. I feel like we’ll need to keep tabs on the front office to make sure they know they actually have to wait about an hour or so for our first pick. It would be embarrassing to have someone run up with our card when Goodell announces the Panthers are on the clock.

how far was freemen avg pass att 4 yards?? it was the yac that was killing us

how many times did they have 3rd and long do a dump pass and get like 15 yards??

we don’t give up that many long balls..hints the 13th best pass D and we have been as high as 9th this year.. CB isnt as big of a need as people want to think…

we also have the 6th least sacks given up.. (though other then the last 3 or 4 weeks our run blocking has been some of the worst)

it is frustrating enough when none lion fans look at us and say “you need a LT” or “you need a CB” when there not really weakness’s now we have lions fan claiming it?? come on man.. LB all the way is what we need i want 2 i the 1st 4 rounds.. and at least one good vet

we dont NEED PP
we dont NEED prince
what we doe need is a really good LB hopeing for lewies myself.. and get some one like CB jimmy smith in the 2nd

If we don't get Peterson it seems as though Prince would be the pick

I don’t think we need Cromartie.

Cromartie had 1 excellent season and few avg.

He is at best a #2 CB..
And Phonz and Houston are/were doing great but still I would not call them elite… both Peterson and Prince are excellent prospects and I would love to get 1 of them on our team… But I will not worry myself on which 1 or where they get picked.. IMO we will take the 1st CB as long as we don’t drop out of the top 10 they are the BPA in an area of need i.e Suh. Both have upside to them and I would rather have Prince.

All the Teams that are currently in the top 10 I see only 2 going for a CB.. That is the Lions and the 49ers… I have not seen a reason to “reach” for a OL or LB if we stay in the top 10.. but if we do trade out of the top 10 Prince may still be there or then we will be able to get the LB or OL that we need..

If I had my way I would get Prince in the 1st and get LB Jones (sparty) in the 2nd.. There now we have filled 2 holes in our defense

Lions fan for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's me looking into the future at the Lions going to the Play-offs by 2011 and going to the Super Bowl in 2012!!!

Thats what I want as of now Prince & Jones

But mark my words. This is Dec and by draft time Jones will be a mid to late 1st rounder. Kinda like this year at first some people thought and had in their mocks Brandan Graham going late 2nd, 3rd and some people late 3rd round pick. Same thing is going to happen with Graham.

I will not be at all mad if Petrson goes first and we end up with Prince. Just think Berry Vs. Thomas 2010 and Curry Vs. Mathews, Cushing, Larinitus 2009. Do you see a trend. Just Glad the Suh Vs. McCoy 2010 worked out.

Either way I don’t see a Petterson/Prince 1st Rd. and Jones 2nd Rd. thing happening.
