Hill Vs Miami.....?
Sure its early in the week, but the way the season has gone... the QB that takes the most reps usually starts....
Shaun Hill worked with the first team at Lions practice today and appears in line to start Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Sigh....lol.
Here's my stance.... tell me how off I am...
(Regardless of Stanton's injury) Shaun Hill is playing for his job. With the probability of Stafford playing Vs Minnesota, this is his last chance to show that he's the 10-6 QB that the Lions signed and the 1-6 QB was just a fluke.
Hill bombs, he's gone.

I still don't know why....
everyone is loving on Stanton so much. This is a team game. Stanton really hasn’t done much and I don’t think he ever will. Of course this will garner the “he won 2 games” speech. Well, everyone else on the team has won 4, so I don’t want to hear that crap. The only thing that has made Stanton look decent at all is Calvin Johnson. Well, he can make anyone look good. Take away CJ’s game and Stanton was what? 13 out of 27 for 100 yards? Whoopee! The only reason Calvin was so open is because the Bucs stupidly tried to play run stop on us all day. Oh, and their best corner was hurt. Go figure. Hill makes plays to everybody on the field. He is a leaps and bounds better quarterback. And one last note. Hill is signed for another year. Stanton is not.
You just said...
Its a team game, the Quarterback doesn’t do shit.
Good for you, next time read the title of the thread before you decide to post.
Could the fact he uses CJ more effectively make him good then
Cmon, I’d say getting the ball to CJ a lot makes him a good QB. QB ratings between Stanton and Hill are not significantly different and he has two wins already. He has the highest yards per pass attempt of all our QB’s and averages almost 20 yards rushing per game. He seem to turn the ball over less as he gains experience and confidence. Hes not that old and was still a 2nd round pick. I’d say keep him and discard Hill to the highest bidder. He could be worth a 4rd this year and thats more than we gave. This staff has seemed to do well in developing draft picks so why not get them more. Also, if BPA is a WR or a RB with our first pick we need to grab them even if it mean passing on a shutdown corner.

Nice point, so what's the issue with Hill? Where's the wins? He had Calvin also.
Well, he can make anyone look good.
The only legend around here is the one that exists in your own mind.
He doesn't throw to CJ
Thats my biggest problem. Stanton uses CJ as his saftey net. No dissrepect to Pettigrew but Hill always takes the TE checkdown. Almost afraid to take a shot at Calvin cause he looks covered I think.

I know that
How many targets a game does Grew get when Hill and how many CJ…..Then compare Stanton. If Drew had played more games I bet CJ has even more yards.

Well Calvin averages 4.7 YAC
So it’s def not all QB play. Screens and comebacks are great when you got a WR that can take it upfield.

NFL contracts are not guaranteed
That’s why the players go after so much guaranteed money, so if they get hurt or cut they have there bonus money. I doubt Hill got any guaranteed money with his contract so he could be cut at any time.
So yes Hill is probably playing for his job…
I realize contracts aren't guaranteed...
but he was signed to an extension for a reason. Stanton is gone. It will be Stafford, Hill and Robinson next year.

Dude...
has played his heart out with no run game and tons of injuries. He played with a broken arm. He finished The Pats game with a broken finger. He is a great backup and we’re lucky to have him. He could be starting for alot of teams, and probably would be San Frans starter if we hadn’t picked him up. Stanton had 4 years. He just doesn’t have the accuracy or decision making of other quarterbacks.

I think Hill will be on our roster next year no matter what. just my opinion I guess. He is a quallity back up and we can still use him in our system efficiently.

We won’t keep both. If we want Stanton we have to atleast give him the backup spot for 2011.

LOL…. For Every reason you love Hill, Stanton can match the same reasoning… but still you hold a different opinion of him… is it because he wins?

Are you still hating on the coaching staff?....
or waiting until the end of the season. I know 4 wins isn’t much, but it’s progress!
PATS just signed....
Landon Cohen. I think it’s a good sign when high character teams are signing our cast offs.
After the Jags cut him
Cohen is ok but I don’t see him “sticking” anywere.

I doubt he'll stick either...
but it’s better than the days when we’d cut someone and the UFL wouldn’t even take them. Ahhhh….memories.
And speaking of the UFL....
maybe Stanton will come play for my Virginia Destroyers!!! That would make 3 former Lions quarterbacks in the UFL.
he will be a all pro by week 17.. 20 sack this week book it

Watching Hill throw ten yard rainbows is so painful. I love the zip Stanton can actually put on the ball.
But it's wobbly zip so it doesn't count. Just ask the haters.

I really doubt Hill will be "gone"
even if he plays horrible. They brought him in to be the backup (and that is what role he will be for the rest of his Lions career if Staff can stay the hell out of Dr. James Andrews waiting room) and I think he has filled that role very nicely. Hes a backup caliber QB and he stepped in and gave the team a shot to win every ball game…none of those loses lie soley on him, but at the same time an elite QB would have walked away with some Ws. Props to Stanton for actually finishing the games, but Hill is still a more talented quarterback and field general IMHO.

So sneaky sly f-en Schwartz is telegraphing QB's again.
If Hill does actually start on Sunday, Schwartz is an asshole. He could of had everyone fooled by not showing Hill taking 1st team reps.
The only legend around here is the one that exists in your own mind.
From what I am seeing here
From his post practice presser. It’s not so much play as health. He didn’t even count out Robinson if it was neccesary but that wont happen…I hope.

Stanton was also a reason they put an extra in the box
his run threat which Hill doesn’t have, was big in Tampa and Schwartz could be using Hill as a decoy since they are so different.

Here is the way I see it...
Hill starts against Miami…we lose. Stanton starts…we win. Now I hope that they prove me wrong and win with Rainbow fucking Bright as the QB, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

“I see you Brandon…you big stud you…Uhhh” <<throws a noodle armed, limped wrist pass to Pettigrew, while completely ignoring Calvin Johnson>>.
“Don’t worry Cal honey…I’ll throw it to you in the 4th quarter when we are down by 3 scores, so we can try to make a comeback again”.
<> “Hey everybody…come take a ride in my new car”!!

All of the sarcasm and attempted humor aside…
I think Hill can get the job done…and if his finger will allow him to do his job properly, then so be it. IF the reason for not playing Stanton is because of the separated shoulder, then I suppose it is understandable. However, I stand behind Drew Stanton. I think some people are really ignorant when it comes to his ability, and even blind to the positive qualities he has shown. Add in the FACTS that he is younger, far more mobile, has a much stronger arm, and has much more potential to improve than Shaun Hill, and I think you have yourself a conundrum.
What you see is what you get with Shaun Hill…he IS Trent Dilfer (use the comparison where it actually fits). He is not going to suddenly get faster and more mobile, he in not going to suddenly develop a stronger arm, and he is not going to suddenly start taking more shots downfield. He is a clandestine, pocket passing dink and dunker and he is nothing more than a game manager…PERIOD. He is NOT a starting caliber QB, never has been and never will be (10-6 in SF was because of Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, and defense…imagine that, he had another athletic TE to throw to). Don’t get me wrong, I do not think that Drew Stanton is a starting caliber QB either, AT THIS POINT, but I do believe that if he were given the opportunities and the real in game experiences that Shaun Hill has, he would become the superior QB.
Drew Stanton is 26 years old. Shaun Hill is going on 31 years old. Drew Stanton has potential. Shaun Hill does not (his potential has been reached). Shaun Hill has a contract. Drew Stanton does not (after this year). So what happens now? Do we go against Schwartz’s mantra of acquiring talent and not giving it away, or do we re-sign Drew Stanton, who is clearly talented and who has potential to be a solid long term #2 QB for the Lions? I am a believer in the latter as being the right thing to do.
My vote was “agree”. If Shaun Hill bombs against Miami (IF he does start), then I think he should be traded (for a late round pick) or released. If the argument is that the bottom line here is WINS…then that only makes sense. What I hope is that Schwartz and Co are trying to pull the wool over Miami’s eyes by giving Hill the 1st team reps and having Stanton take 2nd string reps (Stanton was not limited in practice btw), only to let Stanton start with Hill as insurance. Schwartz has stated that he likely will not choose a starter before Sunday, so it’s still up in the air.
It's a terrible thing to have to tell your fans, who have waited like Detroit's have, that their team won't win it this year. But it's better than lying to them.

I agree..sadly Stanton is a re best chance to win

I agree that Stanton should get a shot to start.
If he is playing like crap they can always put Hill in later in the game. I’m not convinced that he gives us any better of a chance at winning I think they both play about the same.

I know we're bad...
but are we so bad we need to start slobbing the knob because a guy won 2 games? WOW. CLF, you’re an idiot, I never said I love Hill and hate Stanton, I said Hill is more proficient and a better back up in my opinion. You look at 1 game and jump to a bunch of conclusions. I watch Stanton, and he just usually sucks. Period. He played pretty good against the Bucs, but I put reasoning into his performance. D played well, we had a run game and the Bucs played run stop the whole time. Stanton was AWFUL against the Pack. There is no doubt in my mind we would have lost that game if it wasn’t for our D. They took out Rogers, got that one pick (Spievey) that would have been a touchdown if not for some luck, and a pick in the end zone. Stanton orchestrated 1 drive. One. Read that again. In the entire game. And thats with 190 yds of rushing support. He throws all over the place and thank god CJ can jump 8 feet in the air, grab a ball 5 feet horizontally, and come down on his tippy toes. (Yeah, i said tippy toes. Blow me.) I’m not being a hypocrite. I’ve watched every snap Stanton has taken since he’s been with us. Without accuracy, you’re just not going to make it in this league. Unless you’re Favre and can chuck a ball blindly down the field and have a reciever make a play. Bastard.
Shaun Hill is the NFL Camera man's best friend
When Hill attempts a throw more than 20 yards. The camera man knows. He has time to take a couple of drinks from his soda. Eat a bit of his hotdog. Go online and check his stocks. And still have enough time. To point the camera to the spot of Hill’s intented pass.
