Suck One, NFL

This probably belongs in a Fanshot, but whatever.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/content/nfl-informs-bucs-offensive-pass-interference-call-winslow-was-incorrect

The NFL says that the Pass Interference penalty on Winslow was incorrect. Are you kidding me? A written apology? How about when Suh has gotten called with bull**** penalties? He gets a $15,000 fine. What a joke. It just shows that a bunch of guys in suits should not be determining the rules. Ask a 4th grader, Did Winslow push off? Every 4th grade would say yes. That's why it's Pass Interference. Screw the NFL.

I don't see how it isn't offensive pass interference...

I understand if a defender initiates contact and is not playing the ball, it is defensive pass interference, but based upon this logic, if a defender is looking at the receiver running down the field and the receiver knocks the defender down, then it is not offensive pass interference. Trying to say that Brown was just as guilty is crazy, as Winslow was grabbing CC the whole way and then at the last moment pushed off.

Either way, you can consider it payback for the CJ “no catch” or the many other calls that have screwed the Lions. The only difference, we don’t get apologies, we get fines. Just as everyone said when the Lion’s have been the victims, you can’t allow one bad call to determine the game. If it had been a touchdown, who’s to say the Lions don’t utilize the extra time on the clock to score a game tying touchdown and still win in overtime.

Bucs lost, Lions won, NFL can eat shit.

He pushed off...in the end zone....

I don;t care what they say now…it WAS offensive pass interference.

It's a terrible thing to have to tell your fans, who have waited like Detroit's have, that their team won't win it this year. But it's better than lying to them.

word....

I can’t believe the NFL rulebook allows the offensive player to grab the shoulders(while controlling the arms) of the defender… wait for the ball to arrive… and then push off while letting go, turn around and catch the ball.

I believe Mike Pierra on Fox said the call looked legit.

+1 REV

And that was still hands to the face by the TB RB on the play that Houston got called for facemask. The RB clearly grabbed Houstons facemask on that run and pushed his head so far back that Houston had to come out of the game for a play, but who got the call? Oh thats right TB got the call and put them in first and goal. Instead of what ever down it would have been I beleave 3rd and about 20+ where they would have still had to kick the FG.

yes it was they called it against Pettigrew when he barely pushed when he was cutting inside

No apologies just a penalty on what would have given the Lions a crucial first down.I forget exactly which game it was but I remembered what an iffy penalty it was.

I thought being lazy was a bad thing, So I gave up thinking.

So appatently

only teams in the playoff hunt deserve proper officiating! We have been absolutely F’d by BS calls all season, but because the Bucs might miss the playoffs, the officials feel they need to suck ass and apologize. Screw that! Waiting for a few sorry letters addressed to the Lions FO for multiple game losing bad calls! Agreed sparto, Suck it NFL!

Kellen pushed but it wasn't as if CC was in the clear either...

Oh well… If the NFL wants to cherry pick giving apologizes, that’s their business. In the end we got what mattered. Sure I feel for the Bucs for having a “questionable” call effect their game but god knows how many times we’ve said the same stuff about games the Lions were in.

Funny thing was I was reading a Bucs blog about how CC was touching Kellen “4 yards deep” in the end zone and made some irrational claim that was illegal contact. We’d probably still be playing the game if they called illegal contact like that. And I know “Revis Island” would be a lot more plane accessible if they would.

This is exactly where a man needs to step in

(Hint Hint William Clay Ford) Our team deserves more of an apology from the reffs than any other team. This biased stuff towards the Lions is getting really old really quick. Man up Ford and take it to Goodell!

You know what? The NFL should just stop issuing these meaningless apologies.

They don’t make the team or the fans on the short end of the stick feel any better, they make the refs look and feel worse than they already do, and they cheapen the victory of the other team [assuming the mistake cost them a game]. And in this case they are flat out wrong. It was a close judgment call made without the benefit of instant replay from five angles.

How about doing something to improve the quality of the refs and the game overall and STFU?

We got away with one....

it happens. At least the call went our way for once. I thought it was a pretty spectacular catch. I’ll take what I can get though.

by Alowicious on Dec 23, 2010 8:55 AM EST reply actions

Well

im glad we finally had a call go our way. I wonder how the bears felt when refs were telling Calvin that his catch was a TD all year. We didnt get a written aplogy when Suh hit Cutler in the shoulder pads. If the Bucs fans complain all we can say is that is the NFL they cant be perfect. I know we got away with one I just hate how they got a written apology for it.

by hate2lovelions on Dec 23, 2010 8:56 AM EST reply actions

You know what

The TB D still gave up a drive to a 3rd string QB that set up the tiing FG and lost in OT, and as Lions fans we know how that feels to get a call against you late in a game, then lose.

Was just saying

That we are not giving that win up, just like the Bear didn’t have to give up the win on the TD by Calvin in week 1.

I think it's obvious

to me, at least, that the refs and NFL have been targeting us ever since the Suh horse collar incident week one. It’s some bullshit, but sadly there ain’t much we can do about it. Having Jets players come out and tell news reporters that we’re “dirty” like a bunch of pussies doesn’t help our situation either.

On behalf of the NFL...

I apologize to the Detroit Lions for the dumb calls and/or penalties on pass plays in general and Ndamukong Suh in particular. We will fire all refs and send them to the Middle East next year as UN peace-keeping observers.

DISCLAIMER: Just said that for fun. Actually, I agree with Waitingfortheroar above. We DO need to learn how to win. Griping is old-school and by midway through next season will be history for Lions fans everywhere. KEEP THE STREAK ALIVE !
