Defense WINS THE GAME!!!!!

Star-divide

What a sigh of relief to a overall inept game by the Offense.   It became clear after the panic throws that Hill was starting to resort to, that the defense had to buckle down and take this game over.

Hats off to a D-line that had to of had over 10 tip ball in the last 3 minutes, Vasher for stepping up... and our Man in the Middle, Mr. Levy... who many have had the opinion he did/does not belong in the middle(may they eat crow tonight).

Great Finish Detroit... I'm pumped for next sunday and a 4-0 finish!

Great game.

Hill did start off slow and the offense was out of sync.. both of the offenses. Though Hill did better than stated.

That reference is from a comment by one of the Stanton fans calling the Bears game "FLAWLESS".

I agree Profiler, no turnovers does not equal a flawless game.

Hill played well enough to win, and the defence turned it on in the last quarter after not playing very well for the first three quarters.

A previous thread of Hill bashing and Stanton glorifying this week.

Stanton’s game against the Bears was referred to as “flawless”.

My final word on Stanton; he is better than a lot of bashers on here want to admit but his upper ceiling is a better than average #2. I hope he stays with the Lions, but Drew may not choose to stay. I wish him the best whether it is here with the Lions or with some other NFL team.

He played as well as stanton .. ran a little .. passed well .. got TD ..no interception .. no fumbles … Targets dropped throws .. CJ was out of the game in the end ..

If D helps Stanton, pple credit Stanton .. and here D won the game ?

Yeah, but Stanton got the ball rolling with the last 2 W's completely turning around the teams momentum, and putting the team on his back.

So by even just sitting on the bench, Stanton should get credit for the win. He’s the man even when he sits.

Ok man...now you're just being a prick

And I have tried really hard to be civil with your stupid ass shit for a long time now. I am sick and tired of your mouth (again). For one thing “Northleft12”, Drew Stanton completed 66.7% of his passes against the Bears, while only being allowed to throw the ball 24 times, AND he ALSO had a 12 yard TD run IN ADDITION to not turning the ball over once. You want to take my words and twist them around to suit your own jaded opinion of Drew Stanton? You want to continuously come in and run off at the head in defense of your opinion that Shaun Hill is the superior QB? Because that is ALL you are doing, and it is PATHETIC.

True, the word “flawless” would mean that he was the picture of perfection when taken in the literal sense. Fortunately for a majority of people reading my comments about Drew Stanton, they have the sense to not take EVERY word as literal. All you are doing by pointing out the fact that I used the word “flawless”, and twisting it around to insinuate that I actually believed that he was perfect, is insulting my intelligence, and coming from someone like you I definitely take offense. Shaun Hill was so good in this game that it should end all question about who should have been the starter today right? I most certainly disagree.

In fact this game in comparison to the Bears game is an excellent example, considering the fact that Shaun Hill was only allowed to throw the ball 26 times (thank God). Hill was 14 of 26 on the day….yeah that’s right, just UNDER 54% completions. Now why don’t I bring up the fact that Jahvid Best took a DUMP pass 53 yards for one of Hill’s TD passes, since you “Hill Loyalists” love to point out the long TD pass to CJ by Stanton. Why don’t I also point out the fact that Pettigrew took another DUMP pass 20 yards for the other Hill TD pass while I am at it….might as well add insult to injury since we are being pricks anyway. Let’s take those 2 plays away from Shaun Hill’s performance today…now he has 149 yards passing on 53.8% completions and his production looks pretty horrendous doesn’t it.

Yeah, the bottom line here is that Shaun Hill was the QB in a game that the Lions won. That is great. I am happy that we won the game. However Shaun Hill was not the reason that we won, and I contend that he was the reason that we nearly lost. Thank God for the defense, Best’s breakaway speed, and Pettigrew’s athleticism, or the TEAM may not have been so fortunate as to have been able to overcome Shaun Hill’s ineptitude. And you can take that word as literal.

It's a terrible thing to have to tell your fans, who have waited like Detroit's have, that their team won't win it this year. But it's better than lying to them.

*Hill*

whoops.

This is actually what people were doing after the Philly game as well. I’m not sure why anybody would want to subtract all the big plays that the QB was involved in. Even if they did it that in reference to Stantons play, it’s pretty lame, and IMO, makes your argument follow suit. Both are backup QB’s, neither have shown to be the next coming of any great backups (i.e. Kurt Warner, TB, Matt Cassel, etc.) . Neither QB is our Savior. Both have played well enough, along with the team to win the game, let’s all stop feeding into the media machine and giving the QB’s sole credit for great team play.

Go Lions.

Thanks KDawg you just proved my point.....again.

You guys are so stuck on your favourites that you can’t stand to see other Lions succeed. You are so blinded by your loyalty to Drew that you discount anything good that Hill did, while those same plays that Drew made get raved about for weeks.

You even had Drew taking credit for the improved play of the defence! LOL

I am just asking for some balance here. Currently there is absolutely none. Hill won a tough game against a very good defence, on the road, in pretty tough conditions to throw accurately. He was not great, but good enough.

By the way,…………..HAPPY NEW YEAR!

…but there is no Hill camp to speak of.

If you bother to check around there was a story that Drew could barely raise his left arm Sunday. Not to mention that Hill was unrestricted by his injury. But I guess giving the coaching staff any credit for actually watching how they look in practice, which we can’t see, is beyond you guys.

he just ain’t that good. His throws are erratic and he lost a game for us this year because he didn’t understand what he was doing out there. That shouldn’t happen at this stage of his career.

that I’m an everyday reader and just a once in a while poster. This is in no way, shape, or form directed towards any individual(s). Damn, why the fuck are we arguing over who is the shittier QB? the harsh reality is that both players blow ass. yes they both HELPED get some much needed wins this year…neither one of them won the game for us. you can pick-n-pull whatever scenario or stats you need to, to make your arguement but the fact reamains that both QB’s blow and neither is our savior. Hill has the arm of a wet noodle and stanton is a wild card…you don’t know what either one is going to give you on a week to week basis. fuck both camps and get in the LIONS HAVE A 3 GAME WINNING STREAK CAMP!!! Ya’ll get so damned caught up in who’s good and who’s not that god forbid i’m a loyal lions fan, I’d never visit this site if it weren’t the lions.

Sorry for the wall of text but damn…you all need to take a fucking breather and chill. I’d have to say that we’ve got some good things brewing here and if/when we have a quality starting QB (whether it’s stafford, stanton, or hill) I don’t give a shit who it is…We’ll be in the playoffs consistently. If you haven’t noticed…Our Defense is winning games for us rather than the offense. Please, for the love of god can we please stop bitching at each other about who the shittier QB is? we all KNOW that neither is really worth a damn. I’m just glad that when our starter went down we have back ups who can still get the job done.

Seriously

Anyone calling either Stanton OR Hill flawless or anything close to that needs to check who these guys are again. The Lions are running an ultra simple offense thats basically either throw the ball up to Calvin, throw the short dump pass to Brandon Pettigrew or set up some sort of screen pass. They all might look “flawless” in terms of the numbers, but they are hardly good quarterbacks. Hill is mediocre, Stanton has a chance to be mediocre. Thats the way I see it.

Sorry, the storyline isn’t the D rescues an inept O. The oline did play bad and Hill wasn’t all that, but the O also put up 3 TDs. That should have been enough against the 31st ranked offense (in scoring). We had no defense what so ever until the 4th quarter. That said, hurrah hurrah for making consecutive big plays when they needed to (D)! Hats off to Levy, Avril, and Suh! Thank god for Jahvid in this game as well!

Levy

he was the hero of the game (well Suh was out standing also) but man Levy needs to work on his tackling. there was a big run against him cause he left his feet and failed to wrap it up but man what redemption pic 6. way to go Lions! If there is no football next year it will be a total shame for this team that is showing sooo much promise. GO LIONS BEAT THOSE VIKES!!!

Levy deserves oodles of credit

that was a brilliant INT return to win us the game with two minutes left on the clock.

by motown313 on Dec 26, 2010 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

he undoubtly has oodles

of credit from me! but you cant deny the fact he misses a lot of tackles. just saying if Levy wants to be an elite LBer he needs to sharpen his tackling skills. all the props in the world to him on the clutch INT.

by mochaj on Dec 26, 2010 11:39 PM EST up reply actions

I think if you upgrade the OLB's and possibly bring in a vet to mentor him, even if just for depth...

then Levy goes to a couple of pro bowls. He is playing hurt, missed crucial chunks of the offseason, and works with special teamers/guys who have never played in the NFL, and still looks good. Upgrade what I just said, and Levy will be GREAT.

by lions_sucker on Dec 27, 2010 11:07 AM EST up reply actions

I don't agree with "bringing in a Veteran" for mentoring...

IE; JP…lol…

But I fully agree to upgrade the OLBs.

Follett and Dizon are good #2s… Jury is stilll out on Palmer, Carpenter, Johnson….

by CLF on Dec 27, 2010 11:21 AM EST up reply actions

in my heart

i believe Dizon can be a number 1 before Palmer,Carpenter and Johnson. but that is my heart and my desire for Dizon to succeed in the NFL. but the only way for Dizon to prove it is to get on the field and damn it if he didnt get hurt in preseason he would hav had his chance to prove that he is #1 material. saddens me he missed out on the opportunity to show what he has. hope is recovery is going well. see you next year Dizon!

by mochaj on Dec 27, 2010 11:58 AM EST up reply actions

Dizon as it turn out IMO, was a serious injury that the LB-ing corp could not recover from.

He was a very important piece of the puzzle, and a vital cog in the style of LB play desired by SchwartzGun. I never thought I’d say that.

But with his speed, and I believe decent tackling ability, they missed him bad on D this year.

I'd say the defense did win that one

With five minutes left, there’s no way Hill 3 80-yard drives to score 17 points. The offense only gained 60 yards while we scored 17 points, so I don’t know how you don’t give the credit more to the defense. That said, both sides were pretty stale up until that point and I’m glad the D clutched up. Next year will be exciting once we shore up the weak points on that side of the ball.

drives vs Green Bay and Miami. You’re doin all the work for me. O by the way It’s not like most people who crap on Stanton like Hill. It’s that they just don’t like Stanton. What the hell is the problem with Stanton? Is this UM/MSU bullshit? Hill won against the Dolphins that is great but why “attempt” to belittle people for enjoying watching a guy that most certainly has a place in the NFL and quite possibly as a starter even though it took a huge injury bug to find this out? The dude was left for dead career-wise and I guess it’s cuz yah crapped on people for saying just give Drew a chance that it makes you look bad. TAking turns being “sarcastic” when yer just taking petty shots at people is pretty lame and just makes people look like kids on their parents internet.

I keep hearing about how he’s horrible in run support, and while he played a good overall game, he did look a tad shaky again the run.

Seems like a decent depth guy for next season though.

The only legend around here is the one that exists in your own mind.

by delusional on Dec 27, 2010 9:46 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

How about this...

the Lions starter is Matthew Stafford. So there doesn’t need to be this bickering over Hill and Stanton. Hopefully, we only have to see them in clean up duty after this season. Hill is good in the sense that he plays it safe and can hold leads and accepts his role as a backup. If we keep Stanton, he is good, as he also accepts his role, can get a lead with his arm and risk taking, but is also extremely inconsistent, which is why he is a solid no.3.

We should be celebrating the fact that our no.2 and no.3 QB’s can still get wins and we have possibly the best QB depth in the league.

by lions_sucker on Dec 27, 2010 11:13 AM EST reply actions

I agree

And I swear that I do not care who the QB is as long as we win.

That said, my entire argument all along has been that consistency can only be built through repetition. In this case it needs to be real, regular season, in game reps. Stanton had the hot hand. Of course he was not the whole team. That is about the stupidest notion I have ever heard, even from someone who takes EVERYTHING in the literal sense. But the fact of the matter is that Drew Stanton was the QB when we won 2 games in a row for the first time since 2007 (stopping the division and road losing streaks), and no other QB on our team right now had done it this year. He deserved to start again.

The point is moot. Hill got the nod. We won the game! The bickering here is not over the fact that Hill started. It is over a person who can’t stand it if anyone else posts an opinion contrary to his. It is over a person who can’t read something contrary to his opinion and then move on, without running his mouth and making himself heard. It is about a person who spews insults, calling people classless when he himself has no class. It is about a hypocrite, who under the guise of “enjoying the win”, “not dumping on other Lions”, and the idea that the holiday season would somehow protect him from recourse, coming in here and intentionally trying to start an argument. He should know perfectly well that his ignorant comments would start a fight. If he didn’t know, then he is a lot more ignorant than I thought.

My argument is for Drew Stanton to be re-signed as the #2 QB in Detroit. We can celebrate our “depth” at QB all day long, but next year we could be without our #3 QB, who should be our #2 QB. If you have two players who both play at pretty much the same level, then does it not make sense to stick with the younger player? Does it not make sense to coach that younger player up to his potential? Does it really make sense to stick with the older, more experienced, player who does not perform at a significantly greater level, over the younger player who plays just as well with less experience? How do you justify that?

It's a terrible thing to have to tell your fans, who have waited like Detroit's have, that their team won't win it this year. But it's better than lying to them.

But to add to the fire… how the hell does a QB get a 102 passer rating but only 4 first downs in a game? (Mwwwaaahahahahah)

by CLF on Dec 27, 2010 1:10 PM EST reply actions

To answer your question...

He efficiently noodles the ball just past the OL, which by the time of the throw is 3-4 yards behind the line of scrimmage, typically gaining around 1-3 yards per play. Then, 4 times a miracle occurs, blocks are made, routes are run, and even the wind blows in our direction for a 4-5 yard pass which is taken by our TE or RB for several yards deep into Dolphin Territory for a first down and allowing us to keep scoring without needing too many more first downs, if any. Yay!!!!!!!
