Lions Notes: 'Discipline' Possible For Dominic Raiola

  • Calvin Johnson and Chris Houston are likely going to play on Sunday against the Vikings. Both left the Dolphins game with injuries, but they don't appear serious enough to keep them out against Minnesota.
  • Landon Johnson is not as likely to play, as he left the Dolphins game with a concussion.
  • Louis Delmas, who has been out the last two weeks with a concussion, is expected to return on Sunday.
  • Jim Schwartz didn't name a starting quarterback for this week, but I think we can assume that Shaun Hill will be the first-team QB again this week.
  • As you probably know by now, Dominic Raiola was caught on camera yelling at a Dolphins fan to suck his you know what as he left the field following Sunday's win. Jim Schwartz said that Raiola could be disciplined for the comment. Also, the league is apparently looking into it.
  • Brandon Pettigrew has set a single-season Lions record for receiving yards for a tight end, passing Charlie Sanders on the list.
  • The announcers for Sunday's game against the Vikings are Ron Pitts and John Lynch. No Dick Stockton this week!
  • The Lions worked out kicker Kris Brown last week, likely just in case Dave Rayner were to go down with an injury prior to Sunday's finale.
  • Kshoe83 and I tied for the Pride of Detroit survival football title. We were the only two users left for Week 16, but our pick that the Jaguars would beat the Redskins was incorrect. As a result, we are the co-champions of the group. I knew I should've picked the Lions.
  • In the Pride of Detroit fantasy football league, I am playing latif in the championship game. Currently I am leading latif by a score of 93-39, but he still has Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy and the Eagles D/ST. I have Percy Harvin, so it will likely be right down to the wire as I try to go for my second straight title.

Listen, Yuille....

You are lucky that Terrell Owens and Adrian Peterson are big wussbags or you woulda went down in the playoffs! Lol… I took a big risk by keeping those two knuckleheads in my lineup and it backfired on me.

Good luck to both you and Latif in the big game.

Lol

I can’t tell you how pissed I would’ve been had I been in your shoes. Peterson pussied out big time.

Pettigrew

I saw the pick coming (he was one of the players that the Lions brought in before the draft) and was interested in how a dynamic TE would benefit the team. If you would have told me he would have set a Lions record for Lions TE receiving yards in his second year, I would have told you that he would have probably needed a couple of more years to get there. Good job to the FO getting talent and congratulations to Pettigrew for setting a new target for himself for next year.

The draft is no longer the most exciting time of the year.

Agreed

There is room for improvement for this second year player – and that makes it even more exciting.

I agree with that. He should continue to improve in all facets of his game.

I was not happy with this pick when they made it, but seeing the Lions utilize a two TE set and actually throw to the TE more than twice a game has won me over. I like him so much now that I have his jersey.

So when does Raiola get the boot?

I can’t believe how much he has pissed me off this season.

Me on the 2008 Detroit Pistons..

"Blowing leads, losing to poor quality teams, having a coach that preaches defense but we can barely guard a soul. This is reminding me too much of the Detroit Lions…

…depression starting to set in."

Good Times!

Draft a center

I’m thinking they might draft a center in the next draft somewhere in the mid rounds. I don’t think they’re gonna boot Raiola. He’s a passionate guy that the other players on the team seem to really like. He’s also smart. He’s not physical at center as I’d like to see..mostly because he’s a little on the small side in my opinion. I think if they bring a guy in from the draft this year and let him sit behind Dom for a year or two and hopefully get some of Dom’s good habits it could be good for everybody. Of course, I’d like them to draft a guy that could play guard as well…wishful thinking maybe. We’ll see.

I still think Dom and Backus have been playing really good football this year…probably the best of both their respective careers.

In Dom’s defense, he’s taken a lot of hit for the last decade of losing because he was the first ever Millen draft. Backus was the first rounder for Detroit that year and Dom was their second rounder. He may be a hot head..but at least he’s passionate…that goes for something in my book.

Another Husker?

Do it!

Omaha's Christmas List:

Anthony Tolliver to get healthy and resume doing this (see picture).

The Suns to go on a tear with their new parts.

A healthy Green Bay Packers team for a deep playoff run.

Gregory Echenique to become the love-child of Charles Barkley and Dikembe Mutombo.

Bubba Starling to say "Screw baseball" and head to Lincoln to take Taylor Martinez's job.
